    12:22 - The Blue Mustang is a part of Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, and his personal collection of musical instruments and other things. He puts everything on display and has a little concert. It’s an “invite only” where you have to request tickets to the event. Saw the guitar, nicks and all, hung up in a case in the summer of 2023 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Also there, Elton Johns Piano, David Gilmour’s black strat, a bass from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr’s drum kits and other things. If it’s ever in town, it’s free to go, and there’s a neat concert at the end with Irsay, and we even got to see John Mellencamp. About 30,000 were in attendance.

But I guess I either misunderstood it or Butch got confused. Very nice and illustrative video. Thanks so much!

    Butch is full of shit, really. He shouldn't be trusted abour gear OR songs recorded. He thought an album he did after Nirvana called "Song in D" was a Nirvana song. Kurt had 2 guitars stolen after the session and got a replacement for one of them, and then received Vandy from Japan and he fixed up the TOM strat.

    His jaguar was actually a 66 the original owner he had just replaced the neck with a Stratocasters which would make it look like 65 and for his blue mustang it had all stock pickups when he got it and some time in 92-93 he replaced the bridge pickup

  • @pennsy77
    @pennsy774 ай бұрын

    There is some misinformation off the bat. Kurt obtained his Jaguar following the Nevermind sessions, several weeks after in fact (if you checked his journal, you would know this). His GOSPEL (not Mosrite) was stolen after the Nevermind sessions at a show the night they ended, along with a Stratocaster. Butch is not to be believed when it comes to gear used. Earnie has claimed that the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the Competition Mustang was installed in 1992 when the mustang was restored. Photos show that it had a single coil early on, and it was used for the intro & cleans of Smells Like Teen Spirit, which clearly sounds like a single coil. The TOM was also installed around October 1992 before the Argentina show. Information is shaky throughout, but it's mostly little ones. Love the presentation

  • @groundguitar

    If I got that wrong - that's a big one, my bad. Where did you find the info about that gig after which the guitar was stolen? I have the Journals, and I can only find Kurt saying it got stolen sometime in the past two months, obviously from the date he wrote that. Also, Kurt refers to the guitar as a Mosrite, so I decided to do that aswell, but yeah, I understand the issue.

    @@groundguitar Said info comes from NirvanaGuitar's video on the K Strat, however I do not know where the information comes from solidly. LiveNirvana does suggest this, however, as it is shown that both the K Records Stratocaster and Gospel disappeared following that show, and live photos & videos prove this. It's also worth noting that the guitars likely used during the Nevermind sessions are: K Records Stratocaster Endless, Nameless Stratocaster Smells Like Teen Spirit Competition Mustang Gospel

    It seems strange that Kurt put a Duncan 59 humbucker in the strat when he mainly swapped it out for a JB in every other guitar. The telecaster is a 62 custom, you can tell from the front and back binding, also it was painted with house paint and a roller according to Cuntney

  • @groundguitar

    @groundguitar

    4 ай бұрын

    Do you maybe have a link to that interview with Courtney? Tbh, I initially assumed it would be a JB, but someone made a pretty good case that it's more likely a 59 neck, based on the pole pieces not lining up with the strings.

    @spudvader

    @@groundguitar I was hoping you weren’t going to ask because it was yeeears ago I read that but I’ll see what I can dig up. As for the JB, if it’s the pole pieces that you’re going off, the JB doesn’t line up in a strat, that’s why you get the trembucker version. I know because I have a JB in a Strat lol. I could be wrong but I doubt Kurt used a low output pick up and a neck pickup which has even less output in the bridge position. Doesn’t make sense but I stand to be corrected 🤷‍♂️

  • @groundguitar

    @@spudvader Yeah, if you end up finding it that would be awesome. I myself couldn't find anything from Courtney on the guitar while working on the vid, but thought for sure she had to mention it somewhere. Idk, I'm really not sure either way, and can't see how anyone can be without actually opening the guitar. I was hoping to find Earnie's quote somewhere, since he did in fact open up the guitar, but I only found random forum posts mentioning that he said it's a '59 on a dead Facebook page somewhere. For what it's worth, it seems to me lke Kurt didn't care too much about technicalities, at least not in his Strats, so I think he would've used either one he had laying around.

    It's crazy to me how huge and "classic" Nirvana became since the 90's. I remember liking them in the 90's, most people did, but not everyone... you sort of had to be into that kind of music. And the same people held Pearl Jam or Soundgarden etc to the same level. Part of it might be that kurt died young... but still, who would have thought that the two most expensive guitars of ALL TIME would be from Kurt Cobain?? They've BY FAR surpassed Pearl Jam and other bands of that era in fame. And might even rank on a lot of lists in the top 5 greatest bands of all time. Certainly almost everyone's top 20 greatest bands of all time. Just weird... cause I grew up with Nirvana, and a lot of people obviously loved them, but I'm not sure anyone would have guessed that they would go down in history as a top 5 or 10 greatest band of all time.
