What Bruce Lee achieved, in a sadly short life,is nothing short of amazing. I first saw Bruce Lee,in the early 70s in Edinburgh, Scotland, and it's was the "wow" factor. I was blown away, and became an instant fan, like so many millions of other people. Bruce is deservedly a legend, for all the right reasons. There will definitely, never be another like him. RIP my hero.

What Donnie said was correct. To me, it's the "aura" that makes Bruce Lee stands out from the rest. When he fights, his eyes really look like he is going to kill the enemies. And his movements were so natural and efficient. One cannot simply move like that with just acting talent alone (i.e. look at how Keanu Reeve fights in The Matrix, even with all the CGI, he was still too stiff and you could see he was memorizing the steps of the chronograph).

  • @808music3

davidletterboyz Correct it’s in the soul. Bruce lived a short life but couldn’t enjoy the fruit of his success. Hollywood wanted to capitalise on his name for the $$$ and plenty of it. The investors wanted to see their returns.

I idolized Bruce Lee more than any other childhood hero that I had... The mere aura he projected, his intensity and physicality has NEVER been reproduced... It's difficult to accurately describe how he was able to act in his films while having so many unique, one in a millennia attributes to who he was and how he was able to portray a fighter onscreen... No one has been able to have IT ALL in one person the way he did... He checked all the boxes and then some... The way that Superman is, as the ultimate superhero, is what Bruce was to the action flick and fighting in general... He REALLY was THE GOAT

Saiful Ramdhan lol Sammo never fought with ip man, wtf? Sammo is younger than Bruce Lee and is the same generation as Bruce and jacky. Unless you're saying Sammo hung fought an old man when Sammo was in his 20s.. Maybe ip mans son, Ip Chun who was an "adviser" on ip man movie. Bruce is older and more higher social status and respect than Sammo and jackie Chan. That's why Sammo hung was in Enter the dragon at the start of the movie in the opening tournament and Bruce Lee armbars him, and jackie Chan was also in enter the dragon but only as a stunt double. Bruce Lee grabbed jackie by the hair and threw him through a wall. Jackie was still not that well known yet at the time and Bruce gave jackie and Sammo a chance and let them be in enter the dragon. Bruce is he original, the most respected martial artist. Sammo and jackie are more movie stars than real martial arts legends who revolutionised not only martial arts and MMA, but also revolutionised Hollywood and movies and broke down cultural barriers for Asians in the world. Jackie and Sammo only got into USA and Hollywood because of what Bruce Lee had done before that.

Man, what Donnie was saying about what Bruce brought to the screen that others didn't, that soul or "emotional content," was right on the money. I wonder if he was mirroring that audio interview where Bruce talked about how the prevailing thing in Hong Kong was to copy what's popular and emulate surface mannerisms, but never to go beneath the surface and bring out who YOU are. Ironically, while I like Donnie's work, the stuff he's done that's straight-up Bruceploitation? Cringey as fuck. Specifically because he violates his main principle for doing great martial arts work on film: There's no soul, just soulless-and often comically bad-imitation. Ah, well... Oh, and Sammo teaching himself the nunchucks in a half hour then teaching the rest of the stunt crew? Why am I not surprised? Legend.

  • @davidletterboyz

I agreed with you and Donnie. To me, it's the "aura" that makes Bruce Lee stands out from the rest. When he fights, his eyes really look like he was going to kill the enemies. And his movements were so natural and efficient. One cannot simply move like that with just acting talent alone (i.e. look at how Keanu Reeve fights in The Matrix, even with all the CGI, he was still too stiff and you could see he was memorizing the steps of the chronograph). BTW, those stuff you mentioned were Donnie's early work when he was inexperienced and of course was just following the director's request. The Fist of Fury drama series was cringey af haha. In fact, it took him very long to stamp his mark as the current best in the martial arts movie world (I think SPL was a mini breakthrough before Ip Man series). But that's not to say he's not good. I do enjoy his films after SPL.

His demeanor outside the movies he makes is totally a diffrent story.

It's generally known that Bruce Lee is a great martial artists but along with that, came a huge ego. He thought of himself as the best. Whether it was true or not, his ego definitely hindered his character. He went out of his ways to challenge other martial artists, not to show case his martial art but rather to show that his martial art was superior. He looked down on many masters during that time. Therefore, there's a population that disliked him.
