    Lovely video, thank you so much for your take! I really want to get back in the rhythm of journaling, but don’t want the distractions from my phone. This seems like a great option. I love the idea of just sitting down at a lamp-lit desk, focusing on my thoughts with no distractions or backlights to disturb the process.

    Great vid Yekie, I agree with your sentiments as a long time user on how it's a refreshing difference from a laptop for focus and for the eyes. I'm working on a rM3 wishlist video. Any hardware features or other accessories you would like to see specifically?

    Tough to say. The software improvements have come a long way. The integration while not perfect is functional. Hardware wise, I think the screen resolution could be improved. It isn't bad, but with a higher resolution we could get more software options to be able to utilize *sticky* resolutions to certain notebooks etc. It would be great to have one now to work along with the type folio even.

    @Yekie Yea the continued software improvement has been great, I've witnessed it all since my rM1 ownership. I think you are right a 300ppi screen will likely be what they use. Could you elaborate more on the sticky resolution?

    Just thought of it being a funny way for you to decide the resolution per notebook or even page. Similar to the KZread quality slider. I will go ahead and take a look at your Remarkable videos :) always a good idea to have perspective.

    Thank you! Functionality can change over time. Just like the connect service. I get that the company needs to make revenue to keep the doors open, but this is one of the moments I lucked out having it so early. I would still get it without paying for connect. As my husband said " Every time I get the urge to buy a new notebook that I'm not going to finish. I remember I have the remarkable." He hasn't bought a new notebook, yet.

    Same here as an early adopter, the connect service is no cost. Currently, at $2.99 per month, with the first year being free it’s still not a bad trial to understand your use case for the connect service depending on your use case for your files. I too purchased in 2020 and it took me a small window to fully adopting t but it now has truly become my total replacement or planners and notebooks. I’m even trying to replace sticky notes as best possible. The main thing as you mentioned, individuals considering the RM2, must understand their use case and detached their association and expectations of a tablet/ipad/computer/samsung and the e-ink device (I didn’t use tablet). What happens is for the price and the association of the word tablet they expect it to do more tablet things then it was intended for, which is for distraction free writing and to spend time with your thoughts. We are so connected, people can’t actually do that thus they begin to find ways to try to make the remarkable more tablet like vs. enjoying and maximizing its limitations and the value that it can have on their lives. Love this follow-up video.

    You're actually doing a good job of convincing me to get an R2. [I was already curious about it as someone who likes to sketch.] You're not old enough to remember monochrome monitors and WordPerfect. That feeling of having only the glowing amber text and no other distractions is very desirable (to me). I've never been able to replicate it, or more accurately, I've neve been able to resist the endless distractions that a modern computer offers. I have loads of questions about keyboard feel, USB ports and Bluetooth (to use a mechanical keyboard). I'm also curious about the software...maturity? Is there variable zoom, a dark mode, or can it reveal editing codes? I suppose the reflective screen solves the need for a dark mode. No need to reply - I should visit one in a store. Thanks for the review.

    Awesome point! Monochrome monitors do hit that nostalgia ticker for me as well. Unfortunately, there is no Bluetooth associated with the remarkable 2. The keyboard itself takes slight adjustments, but doesn't feel cramped. If you have any experience with iPad keyboards then it's the most similar to those - being probably the best keyboard you can get on a tablet. No need for dark mode since it is an E-ink display. It really feels good on the eyes. Almost like an inverted dark mode. It's been a joy to see the improvements in the software over time. They recently brought out a liner tool for straight lines. Regardless, I think it is a useful tool and a sweet bit of tech. Good luck! Check out my deep guide for more technical overviews and insight. I found that instead of touching the screen all you have to do is ctrl and either 1, 2, or 3. For the size of the text. But I recently discovered that ctrl and the + will increase the size if you have problems seeing smaller text. I wish it would stay on the size of text you were using before you hit enter. That's something remarkable should have in an update.

    One more great video...coming here after watching your RM2 review video. I have had my RM2 for 2 years, and after taking a bit to get into making it my primary notebook, I now do see an urge to have the ability to type on it, sometimes. Is paying for the Type Folio, worth it, when RM2's handwriting conversion is pretty good already?! I guess I will give the Folio a try. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Yekie.

  • @Yekie

    I find myself using it more and more now, specifically because of the keyboard. The writing aspect wasn't the easiest transition. It was something I needed to make space for by building the habit of reaching for the RM2. It was easier to make the change, once the lack of distractions settled in. It has become a daily tool, it just didn't happen overnight. 😅

    @@YekieI got mine today and here are my first impressions: - Very good built quality overall - the keyboard, key travel, the three different movements, and the inner lining. - But I hate the quality of the outer “fake leather” used. I chose the brown color as I wanted some contrast to the black RM2. The fake leather is very rough to touch, and the sharp borders only make it even more unpleasant to touch and handle. I hope it softens a little bit, in the following weeks. - Weight: yes it adds considerable weight to the RM2. The moment I took the Folio out of its package, I could feel the heft. So it’s definitely not going to be my primary case to carry, while I travel, except if I am sure that I will need to do some typing on it. For travel, I will prefer the RM classic Book folio I have had for two years. - Software: I knew that it has limited formatting capabilities and cannot replace a word processor. But I see it as a modern typewriter. And having seen the great work RM has done the last 2 years (since I purchased my RM2) on the software update cycles, I am positive that they will introduce many formatting capabilities for the Type folio, in the following months. At the moment, I am 50-50, as far as keeping it or returning it eventually. Will test it extensively in the following weeks.

    This device is excellent and could be considered a modern typewriter but just like almost every e-ink device on the market at the moment it fails in one crucial part it lacks expandable storage. I'm simply tired of companies taking this feature out of their devices just because they don't want to add it or worst to promote some sort of cloud service which sucks cause it is not guaranteed that cloud service is going to continue forever.

  • @Yekie

    @Yekie

    Very good point. The cloud features have been useful on the go. The RM2 is not something I carry around often, but pulling the pages/notebooks up on the phone; has proven useful countless times. Right now it is just about living in the moment. I understand that my writing, or rather any inscriptions are not eternal. The RM2 facilitates a partial step forward into the future of input.

    Sadly, there is currently no way to be able to connect a custom keyboard to the Remarkable 2. I do not know if it will be available in the future, but for now I'm enjoying the experience. If you want your own keyboard the the boox air 3c is your best option and is overall way more functional with color as well. But the rM2 is for a user that prioritizes focus

    Something bothers me about the type folio. I've never had the urge to rip a page out of my notebook and feed it into a typewriter and it feels so much like a loss of focus to me. The past 8 months, most of the updates had a strong focus on typing rather than writing and it feels like 2 rather incompatible mediums. Maybe it's just me. It's made me want to consider other e-Ink devices.

  • @Yekie

    You're definitely on to something. I have begun to focus on what it can do, and less about what I want it to do, personally. It is a focus I've been working on. Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions about the Remarkable 2. Maybe it deserves less, or maybe I'm deserving of what it has to offer. Just a thought 🤔. Be well friend.

    It's nice to reassert control of your own attention, isn't it? I have noticed that you've been uncomfortable with how readily one's focus can be redirected. How easily we fall down the online rabbit hole, only to come up for air with the entire day gone? The KZread algorithm brought me here, and I couldn't help but watch your back catalog. How can we resist distraction when entire industries are built on the attention economy?

  • @Yekie

    @Yekie

    The idea might just be exactly the thing that can unleash the cataclysm. Basically, the awareness in the conversation is the proverbial "STOP" portion of our alligator brain. Instead of danger or a predator pulling our attention, we have blue screens and content. Same reaction, different circumstances. I believe it's natural, probably a big reason as to why we became the Apex mammal in the first place. Hope you are enjoying the catalogue. I will keep the good times rolling. Thanks for watching 😉

    When you are distracted by your phone, do you feel that it has grabbed your attention, like a dangerous predator which you must fight or flee? Or is it a seductive reward, like the empty calories in sugar or the warm embrace of caffeine?

  • @Yekie

    @Yekie

    8 ай бұрын

    It feels like a loop in time. I look down at the blue light and minutes, hours, seconds go by - in that order. The predator in this scenario is subjective. More often it feels like a rear naked choke. A feeling like gasping for air, but instead of it being a sensation in my lungs or body it's in my mind. The realization to come back to the surface takes just a few seconds, and the snap back feels like being on the delivery end of Dennis the Menace's sling shot. Instead of pain you're left grasping (not gasping) for the ledge of reality. Seldom does the light move in perpetuity. It hangs like a cloud. So I guess the feeling is most similar to flight.
