I got mine a few days ago but I ordered an off-brand digital pencil (the Staedlter Noris Digital Jumbo) and case/folio (KuRoKo Slim Lightweight Book Folios Case Cover for Remarkable 2). Both were significantly cheaper than Remarkable's official products and they work great. The pencil is totally compatible and comes with an eraser, and the folio fits securely and it has a nice mesh pocket on the outside that fits the pencil. The three items total still cost a pretty penny, but saved a decent amount by ordering just the Remarkable 2 and going off-brand for the (somewhat necessary) accessories.

Might I also say that it's refreshing to see a senior person doing reviews on tech, especially for what it means for the whole world during a global pandemic and needing to resort to tech a lot on a day-to-day basis. You are so right about the pen! I just did my first business trip and took my Remarkable. I had it in a pouch during travel and when I arrived it turned out my pen was missing…. Then I recalled they took it out at security for a quick check after the hand luggage scan and it must have dropped off then… Now I am at a business meeting with a $400 doorstop as I cannot use it… A new stylus costs $60 and will ship in 2-4 weeks… Fortunately I was able to visit a local store and buy a Samsung Galaxy stylus which works and is cheaper than the Remarkable pen!

Thanks for the review! I just ordered my remarkable 2. I bought the pen and folio separately on Amazon, so I got a folio where the pen doesn't stick out like that, and the pen has the eraser on the back for $50. I scrolled through a lot of reviews to make sure customer satisfaction is peak for these items. Very exciting.

To those wondering about the whole return policy and how long it will take to get your money back, it took me exactly 30 days from the day the item was received at their facilities. I live in Australasia. Very credible company. And if the item wasn't so niche I would have kept it. The technology is phenomenal! And I would rank the brand up there with Apple in terms of service presentation and being environmentally conscious.

I moved from iPad to RM2 for notetaking as well. The reason was the same: it feels bad to write on the glass surface. Additionally, the screen tends to heat up a lot under my palm easily, which feels uncomfortable and hinders my hand movement. Thanks for a great FAQ video!

It's absolutely mind blowing and borderline scammy that they wouldn't just make the pen with an eraser standard. I've wanted to purchase one of these for years but this company just seems to do so many anti-consumer things it scares me away.

You can just buy a third-party branded pen, and it'll work.

Hi, here from Jax USA!

I adore my Remarkable2. I've rediscovered drawing - it's the most modern, satisfying medium i know of to draw with; responsive, zoom in to get greater detail, magic to use. Only draw back is it slows down to a virtual stop when there is too much detail in the drawing. I'm talking about heaps of shading done with dots, and copy and paste small motifs to get a repeating pattern all in one image, so it hasn't been designed for that purpose - that's just where the device has taken me. I would love to see an iteration of this device specifically for artists so it had more capacity for high detail images.

You hit the nail on the head with the marker as I just lost mine through the TSA checkpoint. I put my Remarkable, laptop, and Kindle in one bin and TSA separated them and I think that's when it fell off. When I went for my Remarkable in my backpack on the plane, no marker. So for those traveling, put the marker somewhere else. Now I can't get a replacement marker because they're out of stock. I agree with the bad design. I'll be buying a case with a pocket for the pen. Too easy to loose a $100 pen.

You can buy a separate pen holder that has an elastic that goes over the cover. I bought one for my older 12.9 Apple iPad...remember the ones that didn't magnetize and had that awkward recharge where it t-boned the iPad and stuck off. I just ordered my Remarkable 2 :O) Can't wait to get it. I love taking notes and being able to doodle to remember my thoughts.

i bought mine 2 days ago waiting for it to arrive i didnt buy the folio or the cover i hop it will still be ok to use just as is the reason i apurchased was that i hate to write notes on paper or sticky notes leaves a visual mess and those can get lost as i have some important documents to keep away from prying eyes this R2 is the cats a** lol

Great vid. Thank you. But you haven't said anything about the reader. On my remarkable 1 it takes over one minute to change a single text settings (font size, font type, margin type) of an ePub file with about 250 pages (not large). is it faster, better on yours? With PDF's the contrast is low on reMarkable 1 and there is no way to adjust it. Is the contrast on PDFs better on reMarkable 2? Thank you in advance.

One big question that was not addressed: Can I conveniently sync or replicate the notes to some place where they will be useful? Evernote, OneNote or any other app or service where I can easily organize, search, develop, collaborate and share my notes? Text conversion and email does not sound convenient, nor do I want to sync just text.

The Remarkable 2 is in sync with your phone, you can send files both ways

All these video to get to the point. For some writing is sensual... sound and friction are so important. Ipad writing sound like a bird is knocking on a window... nothing to do with handwriting. 😊

I lost my pen the first day! ugh so i agree with that - there are some of those pens now on Ebay with erasers and work for $30 - so that is good - i bought 3 :-)

In terms of functionality of writing, iPad is better, maybe much better. But my eyes get really tired after writing on iPad for a long time. This is why the e-ink technology of Remarkable is priceless to me, as I have to work long hours on it.

You said you were going to discuss password-protecting a file, but skipped that part (you did say you could lock the unit itself). So can you password-protect an individual file on the R2?

Maybe there is a magnet in the cover that interferes with the e-ink when it's folded back. It happens with my BOOX Tab Ultra, but if I take the cover off, the problem disappears.

I chose to buy a 3rd party folder which works perfectly well and has a proper slot for the pen, only slightly bigger

The pen fits inside the binders inner edge. Looks like they designed it that way because when you close the cover it fits snug.👍🏼

Very nice review. True about the pen situation, but I think they're selling just the official pen now. I'd be replacing mine with another brand anyway, and my case is also another brand. Ebooks are a bit complicated. Anything with a copyright seems to be a problem...even if it comes in the epub format it may not be possible to get it on your device in pdf format. I did get a public domain book easily. That having been said, this is a wonderful device. Compared to using an iPad, not only do you have a better writing experience, but it's also distraction free. Black, white and gray. No notifications or anything but reading, drawing, and writing. Love that.

want to search your notes?; convert to text and email to Evernote. In Evernote you can use the keyboard to fix typos and the note becomes fully searchable. store in notebooks or just under the date. great as an end of day review routine

E-mail is inconvenient and insecure. All my other other tablets (e-ink or otherwise) will sync directly to Evernote, OneNote and so on. I must say I find the lack of integrations very disappointing. If all I want is the paper feel, I might as well write on actual paper and use phone camera to sync with Evernote.

Does the Remarkable 2 support a dark mode or an inverted colors setting? I am visually impaired and need to be able to write white text on a black background. Thank s in advance for any help that you can offer.

The exposed pen was a concern for me as well. I would have thought the pen would rest INSIDE the cover, in the "bend" of the binder. Thank you for this review!

It can actually rest inside the cover for transport, there is enough room

I hope you will still answer questions - i just got mine and I am not sure how to get my dropbox to sync - it did once and now if i delete a file on my computer it doesnt reflect in my Remarkable and i can't open most PDFs that are in dropbox - maybe its that pen i got from Ebay but it works for everything else

My month of May is missing on my Remarkable2? How do I get it back? Any help would be welcomed. The calendar goes from April to June.

My remarkable synchronization with PDF files where I sign a document does not come true, the signature does not appear when I import it to the desktop.

I kinda like this, I would just prefere no magnetic suff around it because it would be a problem on a metal dusty usty environment like my work place

my main use is to hopefully convert a checklist that I used when I'm doing audit/inspection. I used to print it and write my comments on each of the question. Now I have to type my comments and no longer able to submit the handwritten notes. I have to be able to get a clean copy of the checklist and submit it. My other use is to write notes during inspection and convert them to text and copy and paste them to a report template. So I have to be ale to share or email my notes to myself. Please let me know in your opinion which of the 2 devices would be suited for my intended use. Thank you

How can I print from my iPhone to remarkable. On my computer it “read on remarkable” comes up at as an option but not on my iPhone

Using various software tools, you can add a little annotation to a PDF that, when tapped/clicked, will open up a little note. Can you add those thingies to PDFs on remarkable?

There are various sites that have templates you can use for this. I don't know for this particular video, but I know our editor uses storyblocks.com a lot!

If this had the Kindle app for me it would only then be a must have

Hello, how can I move a page from one folder to another folder? Is it possible at all?

Regarding losing the pen issue - get a pen loop too sticky onto the cover.

The statler jumbo stylus of it works with the remarkable to and sodas the eraser function on it and it's only $69

Not that you're in need of an e-ink tablet as you seem to be quite happy with your reMarkable 2, which is great! But have you looked at the Supernote devices? I think they actually fit your requirements a little more accurately in that it's more "functional," if you will, note-taking based, as opposed to having that more artistic aspect.

Great video! Regarding the comparison to using an iPad, I’m curious if you’ve tried the Paperlike (or similar) screen protector, which is said to give sufficient resistance to the glass surface. Given your mention of the nibs wearing down on the remarkable, it seems like they’re using a similarly gritty surface to emulate writing on paper.

I haven't tried the screen protector but have heard about it. The ReMarkable's screen isn't rough, it is smooth. I think whatever the material is that the nib is made out of naturally wears away.

Anyone know how I can delete some old emails from the recently used? I have one that’s mistyped and I can’t delete. Please help!

It's possible to buy only the pen. I did it. The mine falled and is broken.

The issue with the pen is not a big deal, you can always buy a pen holder.

All very well, but a subscription model sucks and that’s the sole reason why I’m not going to buy a ReMarkable.

I'm looking to buy this, I currently use moleskin notebooks... I go through tons a year. Can you search for phrases or words in your folders/ notebooks to recall a particular note buried in the many notes/folders you have?

Unfortunately, no. Hopefully they come out with that feature in the future. You can only search the titles of notebooks and folders.

Just a question. I would like to use the remarkable as a teaching tool. Often, I need to draw simple diagrams with text. Does the Remarkable allow a conversion from handwriting with diagrams to text?

You can make handwritten notes on top of .pdf files, which is what we use that feature for. I believe we cover this in one of our other ReMarkable videos.
