I'm a big fan of all of Berry's bullets. Economical to shoot, and in most cases, more accurate than cast. I got a box of .451 185gr RNHB and they're working great in my Henry 45LC 🤔 2 videos ago, shooting at 100 yards. Been waiting for the 358 158gr Hybrid to be available

I bet if you get them going their target velocity listed on the box, "950-1050", they would perform quite well. Should be doable with a wide variety of powders. 🇺🇸👍👊

I tried the 124 grain Hybrid Hollow Point out of my Glock 19 with a 4 inch barrel and my Kel-Tec Sub-2000 with a 16 inch barrel. I used W231 with the G19 load and got a 10 shot average velocity of 1072 fps +/- 18 fps, and I used Aliant Blue Dot for the Sub 2000 load and got a 10 shot average velocity of 1588 fps +/- 24 fps. I tested both loads on a ballistic gel block with 4 layers of denims in the front with the block placed 10 foot away, and here are the results: The G19 load: The bullet expanded and held together quite well and performed pretty much like a Speer Gold Dot HP. It penetrated the block about 15 inches, expanded to 0.55 inches, and had a retain weight of about 121 grains. The Sub-2000 load: The bullet performed more like a 125 grain Remington 357 Magnum Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point shot from a 6 inch barrel revolver. The front of the bullet expanded into 6 petals after penetrating 1 inch into the block. After penetrating about 4 inch the front of the bullet basically exploded with the petals going off into different directions and creating multiple smaller wound channels. The main part of the bullet continued to travel into and stopped at about 13.5 inches inside the block. The main bullet part was about 0.40 inches in diameter and weight about 86 grains. Either way, this bullet basically duplicated the performance of two of the most reputable and proven "man-stopper" handgun bullet in the market.

Did you shoot them yet? I loaded some Berry's 124g Plated Round Nose 9mm and found very similar load data from Lee's and Lyman. But my gun didn't like to cycle at 5 grains. I went to Accurate's webpage and found a range of 5.4 to 6.4 for accurate #5. That seems like a really big difference. My gun cycles great with a 6.0 grain load. The hollow point Flat Base data for same weight bullet is 4.9 to 5.8. I was very surprised that the loads barely overlapped between Hollow Point and Round nose bullets of the same brand, weight and powder. I now look in multiple locations before picking a load.

They worked just fine, but were definitely on the lighter side. Always good to have multiple sources, and always test a few before loading up a whole box 👍

@@davidboloteny8734 it was a S&W Shield Plus. I was just surprised at how much different sources varied on load data. Powder companies test load data using a specially machined firing fixture that measures pressure waves. They can determine the exact charges needed to create pressures that the ammo is designed to operate at. It SHOULD be science,.

  • @DummyRound

It's not that the firing mechanism isn't precise enough, it's the consistency between lots of powder that each manufacturer gets to test from, whenever they get around to testing that specific powder. Burn rate charts are all kind of just relative positions compared to the next powder that acted similar. If you compare 2 or 3 charts you'll see they are all over the place and conflicting with each other. Burn rate changes between cartridges of different sizes, with different projectiles, changes in humidity, primer choice... pretty much anything can change how the powder burns. The powder Lyman tested back in 1980 will most likely behave differently than the same powders tested today. Also, most of the manuals are "written by lawyers" these days and keep the data more conservative than they might have way back when. A few reasons we're always told to start low and work up. Not only because every gun is different, but because their powder is always changing between lots(within boundaries).

There are a lot of powders out there that work in the 9mm with good results, personally, my favorite is AA#7. just a suggestion, if you see some pick it up and try it. It works well in a lot of calibers. -Dave
