Relief for Neck and Shoulders (2) | Feldenkrais with Alfons

I guide you through a simple but powerful lesson. It relaxes, but also organizes the neck and shoulder girdle for more effortless carriage of the head, and might help alleviate pains and problems with the neck and/or cervical spine.
+++++
The Feldenkrais Method offers a unique opportunity to explore the difference of performing and sensing, of becoming more mature in movement patterns, in how to stay out of pain and to be better at everything you choose.

    Alfons I am looking forward to working with my neck spine bones as I had multiple chiropractic treatments age 11-12 involving karate chops to my right clerical joints and these have resulted iin arthritis in my neck with much distortion.of the vertebrae (I am in my 70’s). Furthermore you’re very positive and give joy and good cheer. I’ll be forever grateful and have shred your videos with three people so far. I hope they will pursue your lessons and benefits they enable, judi

    Alfons-LOVE this lesson! I've been following you for some time, and so appreciate your playfulness & how you encourage creativity and exploration with the movements. Being someone who can fall prey to the tyranny of symmetry, I especially love your instruction to just let the body fall where it wants when coming to rest...so liberating!!

    Alfons, doing an hour (sometimes more) of the Feldenkras Method is resulting in a magical experience for me. Gently, ever so gently, my 84-year-old body is regaining strength and agility that was lost in an overworked exercise session at the gym. I’ve given up that grunting and groaning for the soft, but powerful, treatment you teach. A million thanks to you and "the process."

    I did this lesson yesterday and did again today! because I felt I did not get the full benefit of this lesson yesterday. But today I enjoyed it more and I was relaxed completely during the lesson and managed to let gravity do the work as per your instructions! Your lessons have helped me to reduce tension in my body specially in my left arm, my jaws and my tongue resulting from my Parkinson’s disease. Thank you Alfonso for your lessons😋

    I have been suffering from the affect of having had dual rotator cuff reconstruction surgeries 8 years ago as well as being diagnosed with bone spurs on C5 & C6. Even after Physical Therapy, Yoga or Acupuncture there has always existed underlying tension and stiffness and disconnectedness. Your videos have been a God send to my body and mind! You have guided me to be able to access my body's interior and to play and explore movement and find the separate parts of my body's construction and identify where the movement begins from and goes to. Thank you so so much!! A free-er body makes for a free-er mind. PS: You make it a fun and introspective experience.

    Hi, impossible to say without seeing you in person. However, did you try the movements of this video in "slow motion". Best learn them by heart and then go in your own time, extra slow, feel gravity, let yourself be heavy and really lying down your arms, also focus on the rotation movements of the arms. Again, this would be best under my guidance, but see how the movements here can help. You might also want to try arm circles in side lying.

    Hi Alfons. I have been doing your Getting Better Day by Day lessons but I have trouble when it comes to lying on my front. I have lower back pain and I find the extension of the back working in this way puts a strain on my lower back and aggravates the pain. It's a question about movements that feel natural and welcome to my body and others that feel uncomfortable. Sometimes I make myself persevere with the lesson (e.g. Help with Sciatica) and I find I work through the pain and feel better afterwards. But the back extension of lying on my front is too much. I'm glad you recommended to someone in the same situation to check out your Relief for Shoulder and Neck lessons. I did those and they feel just wonderful, my body wants to do that, it feels so natural. What is your advice about whether to persevere with the more challenging lessons which I fear may cause some damage..

    I recommend to start with more gentle lessons first, for example “Relax your eyes in 21 one steps”. After that “Getting better day by day 5, wrist”. Then the first 2 videos of this series. I think every day multiple sessions of several minutes would be best, don’t do too much but not too little either. Build these “restorative” movements into your movement repertoire and daily habits. Good luck and have fun exploring!
