    I am kind of fearful of the possibility that it might stay their best album. Just because of the Corona Vibe they had then and maybe some american influences they are getting at this point that is watering down their unique energy a little bit. It will never be taken away from us but I would find it kind of sad if this would stay peak Band-Maid.

    For the Unseen World album, there are 2 themes and the original release was on 2 CDs. One for each theme. The themes are Gentenkaiki -ban, "looking back at our roots." And Gentenshinka -ban, "progressing through the current point." Manners appears on both CDs as it is considered a bridge song between the two themes. The regular release was on one CD and one song, Youth isn't on it that was on the original 2 CD limited edition. To confuse things even more there is a 3rd edition "First Press Limited Edition" which has 12 songs, missing both Youth and Without Holding Back but having a DVD/Blu-ray with 4 White Room videos.

    Very cool of you to do this. This is going to be a fun way to spend the evening! My first time listening to this album was midnight on release day. I was tired to begin with and exhausted when it finished. I remember thinking, "Is this too much?" But I love it. It is my favourite hard rock album. Completely respect your take on "wall of sound" and "not real earworms". I think the songs settle down on repeated listens. Where you hear "wall of noise" I hear 3 catchy lines. I hear building and climax (settle down! 🤣) And where you hear "not real earworms" I hear "just catchy enough". They have two songs where I think they went too catchy for the rest of the song and for me it makes the songs just crumble. I think they have to walk a very fine line in terms of catchiness in music like this and I think they do it extremely well. I like to say they're too catchy for hard rock/metal fans, too frenetic for classic/blues rock fans, too intricate for most people, and for the people who love intricate, prog fans, they aren't proggy enough. But for me they hit the sweet spot. I Still Seek Revenge: Miku can go really low and sounds great doing it. Have you heard "Bye My Tears" from their first album? That's the lowest I can remember her going right now. HGK: Was that guitar line a Pokemon battle, or an homage to Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee"? WOW! The look on your face at the change in drums! This is it! You've got it! This is what Band-Maid does *literally all the time*. When you It's not a "wall of noise"; it's that moment. Once you find it, you decipher it, and you get that moment of joy over and over again. Sayonakidori: You'll be happy to know that your lass Miku requested an outro to this song and they wrote that masterpiece. Chemical Reaction: This has always felt to me like a song that wasn't ready but they needed another slow down song before the end of the album so they put this on. Giovanni: My favourite Band-Maid song. Kanami has been too low in the mix for the better part of a decade now and there's no indication that's going to change. Big respect for your reasons for not doing Band-Maid reactions right now. A lot of reactors have said similar things. I hope you get refreshed in time for the new album, probably around the start of September. Have a great day.

    NIce reaction, mate. I remember so vividly that my brain felt quite exhausted after my first listen of this album, it was a bit overwhelming for me as everything is all over the place and it took me few more listens to get used to. After releasing this album, Misa said in one of the interviews that she tries to keep things a bit more simple and neat, that's why her bass in newer songs tend to be "less wild". Speaking of Kanami's guitar being low in the mix, it's the same for some other live videos as well, it has been like this for the few years. Their latest 10th anniversary spin off show stream sounds awesome, though. I hope they keep thing that way in the future. Their official band score came with a full instrumental CD for all the songs in this album, you can hear Kanami's guitar well and some cool parts have been buried underneath the vocal in the mix. What's interesting is that some of these songs can feel quite differently without vocals, they can be instrumental songs on their own.

    “Don’t be silly. It’s much too late for that.”Absolutely chilling. Makes me think of the terrifying movie, “Audition.” I don’t understand how any music lover can listen to a BAND-MAID song only once. To be honest, many of my most favorite BAND-MAID songs confused me at first. Some too frenetic. Others not hard enough. It takes multiple listened before I can wrap my mind around what they are doing. The best part of every BAND-MAID song are the vocals by SAIKI and KOBATO. Don’t worry about the words; listen to the vocal melodies, the phrasing, the timbre, the harmonies, and the swing. Listen with your heart, not your head. MANNERS is MINCHO’s effort to scientifically create a hit, following careful study of numerous chart-topping songs and the musical elements contained within. Some people consider it a perfect song.

    Ya know what's even more fun than listening to Kanami play Giovanni? Watching her (Along with the rest of her fellow musicians) playing it in the 'White Room" instrumental video!! It is super cool! At some times, her fingers are moving so fast, it looks like the vid has been sped up. (Of course, it hasn't!) You should wrap up this section of your BAND-MAID reactions with a double bill of the Giovanni and Without Holding Back White Room Instrumentals! They are definitely something different and you will totally dig 'em. Also, they came on a blu-ray disc with the Unseen World album, so technically they should've been part of this review. So, you kind of owe it to your fans.😁 Thanks so much for this great reaction and for all of the time you've spent and attention you've given to BAND-MAID! 🤘🤩🤘

    The first time they played Black Hole live was on a livestreamed show during covid (not too long after the album released) and you could see on their faces that they had to concentrate a lot to play it. Don't get me wrong, it sounded really good, but you could see it wasn't super easy. That live performance is on their channel btw, paired with Manners (it was a Japan Rock incentive by the Japanese government to try and push their bands during the lockdown and the video had to be longer than their normal songs to comply from what I understand). But they have played it multiple times since and they now look like they are playing any of their other songs while playing it.

  • @realdocloco
    @realdocloco2 ай бұрын

    "How do you play that live?" - that's exactly what I thought at first, and I was pretty sure they would never play "Black Hole" on stage. I should have known better ... they did it, and even better (nuttyer?) than the studio version. Several times. Last recorded one was at the Yokohama Arena and I think it's the best one.

    The high screams in Why Why Why are Miku. As in Influencer, Saiki followed by Miku. My take on this song, which I love to bits- Steve Vai (Kanami's guitar work) meets Spice Girls (Saiki and Miku's harmonies). Yes- Black Hole. Even if a human could remember the arrangement of the song, you then have to play it at that speed (220 bpm I believe). Miss a note and you're dead. May as well make a cup of tea and wait for the others to finish.

    This was their first album under new management and a new record company. I think they faced a lot of pressure from their previous label to not go heavy. You could hear even as early as 2015 that their walk on music (which a label has no contractual say so over) was significantly heavier than anything in their set. To me this was their big middle finger album to the former label and mgmt.

    Mark, they play both Giovanni and BLACK HOLE better in live performances than in the studio recordings. Especially, BLACK HOLE's performance at Yokohama Arena OKYUJI, the final show of their 10th anniversary tour in November last year, was tremendous. There is a BD of the live recording of that day. If you have a chance, please listen to it.

    They are my favorite band ever, but even I, can only listen to this album in parts. It’s too much all at once. I hope you comeback after a while of listening to it and let us know what you think after that. I loved you looked like you picked up your jaw after Why Why Why lol. Yes, that’s Miku and there’s a live video out there! Chemical Reaction sounds like Nickelback but with good lyrics. I like it a lot. Giovanni is possibly their most experimental up to that point. The video of them with just instrumentals is great. For some new stuff here’s my suggestions. More Sokoninaru, any songs. Glim Spanky (Alt/classic rock), Polkadot Stingray (Power Pop? rock) Free, Hitsujibungaku (chill/shoegaze) Addiction and More than Words.

  • @iaingeo

    @iaingeo

    I've been considering requesting some Polkadot Stingray, although I'd probably start with Jet or Hide-and-Seek. I think I'd characterise them as jazz-influenced pop-rock, but my descriptions of bands generally reveal more about my understanding of genre than about the actual band. Edit: In fact why not come along to the discord and pop the suggestion in.

    Not an easy album to make a reaction to on a first listen. It took me three sit downs before I could stop expecting the slap around the face with a wet flannel. But that is the joy of Band Maid. They don't make albums that sound the same. This album and later songs have mostly been hard rock to my untrained ear. My favourite album is Conqueror but after a few listens Unseen World begins to get close......Plenty of great music out there. Let's hope your reactions to Taylor Snore is coming to an end though.

    @@markabusireactions too early for you and too late for me to check in my other desk top but I will say I am a fellow Volta and drive in fan. Had an awesome experience where I got to hang out with Cedric and Omar for like an hour back in 2010 or so. Super chill dudes to talk to. One of the funnest musical conversations I ever got to have
