ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this KZread journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

You found your calling Margot!! You've reached a top-notched level of fun, quirky, brilliant, and elegant teaching videos. Thank you for sharing that extra edge we all need to better ourselves. You are priceless. 😍🙏✨😘
Hi Margot , how incredibly ironic that I just returned from the art store and while I was there I found a used Georgia OKeeffe book for $6.95 ! I could hardly wait to get home and delve into it and then I get this notification from you in “ OKeeffe style “ ! What a beautiful day for a beautiful painting , I can’t wait to give this a try , I also loved your Matisse! Thank you so much for sharing ! Blessings from WA

Must be something in the air: I just scoured the Abe used books site looking for some books on O'Keeffe's florals. I LOVE IT when I make a great score on a book or art supplies from a resale shop.
You are so special and I appreciate being able to watch you and your videos. So entertaining, informative and funny. THANK YOU Margot❤
You are amazing, to bring Georgia into this video. She is one of my favorites, and I have several copies in my home. Her colors and style open my imagination , I was so loving how you broke up the Lilly, It dose make is more attainable! Thank you for always sharing your talents! Karen Dirmish, learner! 21:31 21:31 21:31
Margot, thank you for this great video. I, too, have recently been learning about Georgia O'Keefe and her art, especially her florals. I am, right now, trying to replicate her style but using MY ideas. I can just hope that I do her and myself proud. Whatever the outcome I have enjoyed the learning prosses.
Margot your videos are just amazing. So entertaining, so educational, and even better - so so classy. You have quickly become one of my top favorite channels on here. I am a bookbinder/paper artist/journal maker (is there an all encompassing title for that? 😅) but have been teaching myself to sketch and paint for fun (and to challenge myself to something new) when I’m not working on my main business. Your channel has been so informative and I just love being able to step into your world for a bit! Thank you for making KZread exciting!!! ❤

I am so inspired by this video. What a different way to look at things.
Fellow Parsons grad here. I don’t know why but your videos make me emotional and accepting of where I am in my art process. Thank you so much ❤
Margot you are a great teacher! This was the most interesting watercolor video i have seen. I really liked the art history aspect of the video
You are just amazing, you have a real talent for this. I hope you’re channel grows because you certainly do deserve it, I am learning a lot from you thank you.
You are too funny! Loved the video (and Georgia).😊
I stopped drawing about 10 years ago, and have so much anxiety about starting again. I am ordering watercolors today, and need ways to dip my toes in, while not being afraid. I never knew that starting to paint could actually be scary, lol. This video is exactly what I needed, so thank you! ❤
Wow, the deep contrast in her work is absolutely stunning. You're such a wonderful story teller. I always learn something new from you.

This is brilliant Margot! As a Life Coach my favourite question to clients is "how could you look at this differently?" Now using this question for painting is stunning ... life changing! I am so taken with this video ... and your art is crazy good. Thank you for sharing so generously ... Pam
Thanks Margot..need to remember to have fun and a painting is not a photo and to thumbnail compositions and play with color. Thanks 😊❤
Love ❤️ your O'Keefe interpretation also the day you did Matisse's window refreshing nice pop of color thank you🎉❤

Thank you so much dear friend! And yes! Isn't she so inspiring? 🥰
Thank you for your video I forgot about Georgia, you made me take out my book of Georgia's art.
I love art history in a YT video. I enjoy learning about artists. When I watch your videos I feel as if I’m also receiving an education 😊. I believe creating anything is better than agonizing over perfection. My sketchbooks are for fun, experimenting, and making a mess. My watercolor blocks are for my thoughtful planned pieces of artwork. Also, when I don’t want to pick up a paint brush I take out my coloring pencils and I use those to create art. I enjoy the precision of coloring pencils but they are such a slow medium 😆. Thank you Margot. ❤

Thank you Margot. I am really enjoying your style of teaching and these relaxed videos are really great. Thank you from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 🌻🦋🙏

I really enjoy these videos where you discuss an artist along with a watercolor painting technique - it's fun to learn about an artist while practicing something new!
Thank you once again, Margot, for a video that hits all cylinders. Binge watching tonight, and feeling fortunate and grateful to have found your channel and your lovely community of commenters/subscribers.
Love , love the way you teach and the learn do much from the history of artists.. most of all love that you encourage freedom ,to have a go . I make a mess a lot of the times but love the trying out stuff. 👏👏👏

I find your videos interesting. I have found that my "style" is to be as most realistic as I can get. I don't feel trapped or constrained by realism.
I love this style and also your outcome a lot! Great! Thank you 🎨!
Wow! What a fantastic exercise! Thank you so much!
Thank you! I’ve been doing botanicals for month/years and admittedly got a bit bored depicting what I saw. Your instruction has helped me loosen up, explore new colors, try bigger brushes. This video is amazing. I love O’Keefe’s work but, duh, hadn’t considered trying her style. Thanks for this. 😊
Margo, this is truly inspirational - thank you so much for sharing your viewpoint in a way that encourages us to look at things differently! Now there are millions of things to paint from just one object!! :))
This is so inspiring 😍thank you for sharing the Georgia O'Keeffe flower book, I had not seen many of her floral pieces before
That was very inspiring. Thank you, Margot. Mel in Devon, UK 🍰🌻
LOVED this video! Inspiring and challenging and exciting!
Margot-your work is super inspiring! I’m grateful to have been working in my studio when I got your alert and got to possibly be first-(ish) to comment. Beautiful painting. Just love your videos.
This is your best video yet. Love your content!
Margot this video was wonderful. I love your finished piece, but thankyou for your motivating, positive videos, this was just the touch of inspiration and encouragement I was in need of.
What an interesting video! I loved how you took us through making your thumbnails to actually painting a piece. Your final piece was gorgeous too. And what you said is so true - everyone takes the same tutorials and there is so much artwork out there that is the same. I loved how your video really emphasised bringing your own perspective to your artwork. Now off to watch your Matisse vid…..
Wonderful practical lesson--Thank You

Wonderful video! Beyond painting and more. 🥰
Great exercise…love O’Keefe too…
Oh wow you had my attention when you said you were going to share the first thing learned in art school- how to see your subject! But then you said Florals & I was like 😬oh no, but then you mentioned one of my favorite artists Georgia O’Keeffe. You have definitely taught me something new & interesting plus inspirational. I feel more energized to look at my favorite subjects to paint with a different perspective. My being a self educated artist for only 4 years I really appreciate your encouragement for doing thumbnails of a subject & why they are so important for keeping me motivated to paint. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information with us 💕🎨.

You're so very welcome Colleen! You would be amazed at how much of a story the most boring objects can tell! Just look at the artist Claes Oldenburg and how he did the most incredible things with things we often overlook. I'm so glad this video inspired and empowered you!

This is such a unique tutorial and so welcome and excellent. Thank you Margot! This is inspiring. I'm loving your content.
Great great video as usual Margot. Thank you for sharing your art education and experience with us. I am learning so much. I have been toying with abstraction and trying out unexpected cropping for my paintings. And I think your videos have encouraged that.
Great video on another style of painting. I'm not one to stick to one style of painting. It depends how I feel. Impatient? I paint loose. Determine. I paint with details. Carefree (or whatever feeling), it's abstract, like playing with salt, water blooms, dishwashing soup, stuff like that. If you watch a lot of tutorials on 'how to' paint, you play the guessing game on who's the artist and most of the time I guess right. There's one that displays her floral artwork in the background and they all look the same, as you expressed the monotone voice.
I see quite a few of us love this new series, perhaps, inspired by artists series?

You won me over by the end. I was dubious of yet another floral painting tutorial, but that's not what this is and I think I get it. You really are on to something in your explanation of your process of thinking this through. And the proof is in the final result. Brava!

Hi David and thanks for leaving a comment! I knew the word “floral” was going to give artists like yourself pause. Haha I’m glad you got the point of the video and thank you so much for the kind words! ❤️
Beautiful! I love this idea of painting the same object in a different angle. I usually paint loose watercolor florals but I’m getting a little bored right now. When I try to paint, the result is not pleasing to look at and I get frustrated. This exercise could be helpful to just mindlessly painting without getting stressed and simply play. Merci Margot ❤️
Hi Margot! This video reminds of your other video where you mentioned your colleague at university who drew the pepper all cropped and “zoomed in” with strong contrasts.
Thank you!

Margot, another brilliant video. Thank you for the references to Georgia O'Keefe. I've become very lazy about art history recently, and your Artist-related videos are a good reminder without being 'heavy', to take another look back at some of the masters of the past. Also, an even bigger 🌟"Thank you!" 🌟for reminding me to 'think outside the box' with my 'From life' paintings and not just my playtime abstracts!!! I feel that I'm being well and truly, very forcibly dragged outside my comfort zone lately, and this is another reminder of the need to dust off and polish up my almost-lost sense of adventure in plein air work. 💃
Thanks that was awesome info that got me out of a flat rut perspective wise 😏
Absolutely gorgeous.
What a refreshing tutorial, just what I need right now in my watercolour painting journey! And I just love Georgia O’Keefe. I’ll never forget the first time I saw one of her paintings. Thank you 🙏

I needed this because I feel "stuck." I have spent 100's of hours learning strokes, colors, values, WOW, etc., etc. But I was not sure where to go from here...what is my "style." What inspires me? What do I love to look at, but hate to paint. Thank you!
Lovely!
