Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
There are certain watercolor combinations that produce brilliant, aesthetically pleasing paintings, and this is one of them. Burnt Sienna and Payne's Gray are two colors that are made for each other, creating a mixture that is suitable for many subjects. But one Burnt Sienna is not the same as the other. What makes them different, what makes them engaging, and why do I have such an emotional reaction to the pairings? Let's find out!

So a lot of people have been curious about the mop brushes, and I figured I should highlight them! They're Art Secret squirrel brushes and the large one I used is a size 6. They soak up water well, and aside from a few hairs falling out when they're still new, they're pretty durable. You can purchase them at their own site or at Aliexpress. You might find slightly cheaper variants of them at other stores on Aliexpress if you dig around. Just search "squirrel mop brush" in the search bar, look for the black ones with orange banding, and see what the reviews say. I've used both - Art Secret branded ones and others - and the quality is similar. Besides that, you can find all the materials I used listed in the description. Much love! - Kathy Aliexpress store: m.aliexpress.com/store/1266879?trace=store2mobilestoreNew Art Secret site store: artsecretshop.com/products/handmade-squirrels-brush?variant=17048932417625

Been using my Art Secret mop set for about four years now... excellent quality for the (then) price. Recently got the shock of my life when I looked to renew them 😲😲😲... damned Covid!
Just in case you'd not had the luxury of hearing it aloud before (and why should you, tbf!) the 'e' in Schmincke is voiced. As if it's Schminck *_-ah._* And the 'bein' in Holbein, rhymes with sign - I know, German is weird, I am very sorry! 🇩🇪 Pronunciation to one side, your layering and texture building is breath-taking, and your brushwork masterly. The portrait reminds me very much of Liv Tyler, and your colour pairings in all three studies are a delight, thank-you! 🙏🏼
Next time I'm announcing going out into nature for a walk, I will say "I'm off to the forest to stuff foliage down my clothing!" Love this!

Something we should all aspire to
It amazes me that the start of a watercolor piece can look like just a big blob, like someone spilled something. Then, slowly it takes shape and you sit there like 😲

It always shocks me too! Always I'm just like, "Wait how did THAT happen?"
You’re clearly a talented artist, and I enjoy watching you paint. What sets your videos apart, however, is your articulate description of the process, materials, and evident passion for what you do.

Ahh, you're a writer and storyteller as well as a passionate artist! This video took me to surprising places and feelings. Never have I watched a watercolor tutorial that was so sensory and aesthetically pleasant. You've earned yourself a new subscriber by being your lovely self, for your rich education, and wonderfully fleshed out paintings! You are incredibly talented, as well as armed with skillful techniques you've undoubtedly practiced many, many times over. Blessings on all your endeavors!

@@neurojitsu I really loved the scratchy record!
You had me at "abandoned buildings." Your decriptions are poetic!
Yeah they look good together as Payne's Grey can be mixed with burnt sienna and ultramarine blue (2 parts blue, 1 part sienna). So they're already "related" colours. 😊 And if you reverse that mix (2 parts sienna, 1 part ultramarine), you get a burnt umber. All such yummy delicious colours, I love ultramarine blue mixed with raw umber too, such a nice smoky blackish. 😍
I would love you to comment as to the use of sennelier inks to add in to the watercolor, as in my experience I find a certain depth achieved bringing richness beyond anything that is found in using straight watercolors. As well iridescent mediums , silver, gold ink, etc. may be incorporated in multiple ways that bring certain special effects. I would as well like to complement you as to the expertise of your painting skills . Yes as well I am going to try some Daniel Smith burnt sienna. Mixing Payne’s gray is something long ago that is relatively easy that I enjoy doing on my own. Also lastly artists should remember that in using grays or blue grays in a painting allows the eyes to “rest”, and helps bring balance to a composition. In art an exemption their exists to every rule imaginable but one. And that is in placing the focus of the composition, directly in the center of paper/canvas,whatever. Their seems to me no way around this rule, however which way you look at it .❤ Nice video!!!
Wonderful! For me, the flowers in the boot really showed how well these colours work together. And the joke about us all needing flowers in our clothes! I needed that laugh.😃
A limited palette-wonderful. It's the best way to go as far as I'm concerned. beautiful work here. :-)
‘We should all aspire to stuff foliage down our clothing’ best advice yet! I bet the world would be a better place if we did that, rather than hate on each other. Bloody love it! 🧡🧡 copped a follow just for that line (oh and also the amazing art and poetic commentary)

The way you speak about the subtleties of colors, as if each shade is a repository of memories, emotions, and sense of place, really resonates with me. Love, love, love the color combination, and all the info about what goes into making the paints and how it contributes to the different results. ❤

I think I'll subscribe and stay awhile, you are soothing to listen to not all hyper and screamy ( is that a word? Well it should be) I love the old sepia paintings, I have one framed, done by my grandmother in the 1920's I love crows and old rusty stuff, tree trunks and nature. And now I'm an old old thing.😳

Thank you for this amazing limited palette tip. Your art is beautiful and has a vintage touch to it.
Your aesthetic is amazing! I loved the story you created with your bird painting, that could be fleshed out into a whole book or graphic novel. Thank you for sharing your vision with us, it's something this world could use a lot more of. Your voice is so calming. Good luck growing your channel. 🦋

You made me smile so hard, thank you. The crow was a tiny snippet of a story idea that I decided to paint rather than write! I adore crow stories and characters and I'm forever trying to will more of them into existence
Thank you young lady. This is by far the most interesting use of two colors to make three paintings in detail. Paynes Grey is typically a mixture of Ultra Marine blue and Burnt Sienna. I would think the manufacturer probably uses their own mixtures of Burnt Sienna and Ultra Marine Blue to make their version of Paynes Grey. Enough said on my part. I just needed to make a point I guess. I have been painting with watercolors since the early 1990’s and you’ve done a remarkable job with this video. Do some more of these videos and watch your talent grow with many new subscribers as well. I have not purchased a tube of Paynes Grey, I make my own on the pallet with Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue.

Is Payne's Grey typically made of Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna? I avoid it because it may include a bone/ivory black.
@toobad41

Payne's grey is a dark blue-grey colour used in painting. Originally a mixture of iron blue (Prussian blue), yellow ochre and crimson lake, Payne's grey now is often a mixture of blue (ultramarine, phthalocyanine, or indigo) and black, or of ultramarine and burnt sienna. I do not use black in any of my tube paints.

To get a tube mix of Burnt Sienna (PBr7) and Ultramarine Blue (PB29), there’s Jane’s Grey by Daniel Smith. Only the two pigments - no black.

This was an awfully snotty comment. Maybe you need to read things or think a little harder before you post. You started out calling her young lady as if you needed to inform her and then it just became worse. Honestly, think twice.
I just finished dinner and the sun is setting in my mountain Home. Your voice and this lesson in color is as good as smelling the finest perfume.
I usually avoid Paynes grey because it is so opaque but seeing the beauty you create by pairing it with burnt Sienna has made me rethink. I can't wait to try it out, thank you.

Hi! One thing I tried to help me understand pigmentation in individual paints was swatching them in a spectrum of one pan to another that was complementary. So maybe try Swatches going from pure Payne's grey to pure burnt Sienna with as many transitions as you can to get a feel of your paints! Hope that helps you, art is a gift!

Your video was so interesting to watch, I love that you included the swatches of the color combinations from the several brands ! It's really helpful to see how each of them produces different mixes depending on their pigment composition. I really liked how you explained everything, that was relaxing to watch ! 😊

By my reckoning, it’s possible to capture the four seasons with these two colours alone. Nice work.
