Relaxing Campsite, Cooking over an Open Fire - Real Life Truck Camping.
Ойын-сауық
This week, I set up camp at Rock Lake Campground. It's north of Pillsbury, Minnesota. Unfortunately, this week I said goodbye to my former father-in-law. I have known him for most of my life. He has taught me so many lessons and will truly be missed. My girls are absolutely heartbroken with the loss of their grandpa. Although I have been divorced from his daughter for 12 years, we never lost the family connection.
I was not going to make a video this week. I didn't think I would be in the right frame of mind to turn on the camera. Then, Saturday morning, before the service, I was talking with my former brother-in-law. (we have been best friends since elementary school) We reminisced about all the good times we had at Rock Lake. It was then that I realized the best way for me to honor the kid's grandpa would be to start a fire for him at one of his favorite campsites. He will truly be missed.
I am truly humbled by the regular viewers. I am so thankful for the awesome group of people who watch my videos. Not for shock factor of an exaggerated thumbnail and title. But instead for the love of nature and ability experience through my eyes what a real weekend of camping looks like.
If you made it this far... I truly appreciate you.
Kenny

Hi Kenny. My son (he just turned 14) and I just finished watching your latest video and I just wanted to say that your videos are very inspiring/inspirational not only the camping aspect but life in general. My wife died when my son was two and it's been just him and me. I work Monday thru Friday full-time and there's nothing more relaxing and inspiring than your videos. We always look forward to Tuesday. Just wanted to say thank you again. "Be kind and be honest"

My father died 2 years ago, peacefully. We camped as a family in my youth. Jersey shore and and epic trip across the US. He was a Navy vet and loved the ocean. He gave me a love for camping. For some reason I feel close to him when my husband and I camp the Jersey shore. It's like his spirit is out there somewhere. Very special.

"You never know what's going to happen"...truer words have never been spoken Kenny. Condolences for your loss.
Sorry for your loss Kenny. You are an inspiration and your videos are rather soothing believe it or not because you talk so softly and calmly through the video. I saw the camping with Steve video playing on your tv in the background. I watch him too. Some of my favorite camping videos are him, Mav, camper Van Kevin, nomadic fanatic, vancity vanlife, destination adventure, Natalie Lynn, Nikki delventhal, Jonathan yentch and roaming reckless. If you’re looking for something to watch check some of them out keep doing what you’re doing and I’ll keep watching.

Went away for a weekend with my girlfriend for the first journey since the Reno and now have taken it three weeks in a row for work out of town parking in Walmart parking lot. I love it can’t wait to get to some boondocking sites for fires etc. my new solar is working great and love cooking my own meals. Need to try some of the things you have done, I can’t do camp fires but have my three burner and oven. My condelemces to you well. I’m going through a separation so my ex’s side don’t talk to me.

Hello Kenny.I'm an older guy, 72, and live in Montana. We just lost my brother in September after 10 years in a terrible battle with cancer. He's my younger brother and I am the oldest..He was the bravest, toughest man I knew, but a gentle man and I miss my brother. He loved camping and flyfishing and hunting with me and our kids out here but had to move back to Penna 20 years ago.I am so sorry for your loss, Sir. I enjoy your camping videos a lot and my wife and i camp together but the kids are grown and do their own thing, and even our grandson we raised from just a little guy is grown and gone. But I find peace in the grand mountains and lakes and rivers here in Montana. Where I elk hunt I talk to my brother and remember things we did there hunting and just sitting and looking at the high peaks. There's the big dead Fir I had to cut off the trail to get out a big bull I shot over 20 years ago.I reallly like the relaxed way you have with your camping and videos.I appreciate them and hope you keep on..Take care..Norm,

That was a nice tribute to your friend. I'm 76 and unfortunately the rate at which I'm losing friends and family is increasing. It's important that we remember the people who influenced our lives.
Wow Kenny, I am so sorry for the loss of a good friend that you had such a long history with. You know he would be pleased with the way you are remembering him. Sounds like you had a great relationship with him and now great memories to remember him with. My Dad has been gone for 42 years now but I think of him every day with great memories and smiles. He was only 59 when he passed, I'm 8 years older than he was when he passed. Doctor screwed up and treated him for pneumonia when actually it was CHF that took him. You have the right idea about life Kenny, enjoy and live it every day. Don't wait for retirement, I tried and never made it to retirement and I really regret it. I know I'm not alone when I can say I really enjoy your trips as I'm camping vicariously through you. The lasagna looked awesome! I just finished putting a bottom round roast on for supper but now I'm hungry for lasagna! LoL. Exactly how we make it here at home. Only difference we use regular lasagna pasta and simply run them under hot tap water, we don't cook them ahead of time. Kenny if you ever get around a Hy-Vee grocery store grab a couple jars of their spaghetti sauce with meat. No kidding it puts every other brand to shame! As always Kenny: Thanks for bringing us along with you and sharing your feelings. Rough day

Thank you Rick. I hope life has been looking up for you the last week. I have not seen a Hy-Vee before, so I checked on Google Maps. We do have them in Minnesota, but they are all down by the cities. I would rather have a tooth pulled than drive within an hour of the cities. 😆 I'll definitely keep the suggestion in mind. 59 is so young! My dad made it into his upper 60's, but he had some underlying health issues. Mandis mom passed at a very young age. It was just a few years back. But that's not my story to tell. The older I get, the faster time goes. Sometimes, it makes me sad seeing my girls grow up, but I tell myself that one day I'll have grand babies to hug and spoil. I do have a story of visiting a "reader" once. I told her I wanted to know when and how I die. She said she doesn't do those readings... but then she said for some reason she felt it would be ok. I always kept what she told me in mind while at work. I would roll up on a nightcap no-knock warrant and tell myself "Theres nothing to worry about. This isn't how i die." She also said Mandi and I will get married one day and saw us living on water......I will NEVER be able to afford a house on a lake....but I do have a small pond in my backyard. Maybe that's what she saw. 😆 Have a great week! I'm gonna start thinking about this weekend soon. I'll see ya again next week.

Hi Kenny, Mandi, This week and next will be wild watching my wife go crazy for Thanksgiving. We will have 19 for lunch, six kids under 10 years old, 2 Golden Retriever Granddogs LOL.........OMG Fully understand about the Daughters, so many times ahead that they will make you so proud. I have seen my oldest son graduate from the Navy Nuclear Engineering Program and serve 13 years on a L.A. Class Fast Attack Sub. Middle Song graduated Magna Cum Laude as a Civil Engineer. Now designing Municipal Water systems. Youngest graduated from The Highway Patrol Academy at 20 years old. Joke was he wasn't old enough to enter bars to respond to fights LoL. He's 40 now, made Master Sergeant several years ago, his wife is a Asst. State Prosecutor, use to work for The State's Supreme Court's Chief Judge. The best thing is though they have given us 4 ornery Grandsons and 2 adorable Granddaughters. I know where you are coming from about job related mortality. My first call on my first day was a Bank Armed Robbery. The plates came back on a suspect that had armed & dangerous, Mental, Suicidal cautionaries. A State Trooper and I had a choke point set up on a highway. My Sheriff came by to check on me, was shocked that I wasn't given a vest yet so he gave me his. He told me "Rick, if you catch up with him you'll probably have to kill him...I replied "He'll make that decision for me" Wouldn't you know we had a vehicle and driver that matched the description. We got him pulled over.....poor guy didn't know what to think when the Trooper pulled down on him and I had my shotgun barrel stuck in his open passenger side window..............it wasn't the suspect. He took it great, said he had quite the story to tell his buddies. I really enjoyed my career, got to work with the local DEA Agents, did prisoner transport to ConAir for the US Marshall Service. One of the biggest thrills was after I had a knee replacement and got moved to Dispatch I got to Dispatch for my Son. Hilarious about your small pond. Maybe a houseboat on a lake or river? We have quite a few that dock here overnight on their travels on the Mississippi. I sure got long winded didn't I? Kenny, have a great rest of the week, stay safe and can't wait for next weeks video! @@KennyOfAllTrades

I think it would be cool to set up camp on the lake and try to pull a few fish through the ice. Fish tacos in the snow sounds good.
In so very sorry to hear about your father-in-law. What a wonderful tribute you did for him. I know he is honored. Keep his memories close. Your lasagna looked amazing.
My father passed in 97 and father in law last year, one thing I learned from both of them is to live each day as if it’s your last, never regret not taking the time to do what you love to do most. You are a diamond in the rough, and keep having fun on your journey.

Hi Kenny, I am from Ontario Canada. I truly enjoy your videos. They are so soothing after a extremely busy week. We are hoping to finish our vintage camper this year and travel across Canada and the USA. Thank you for your ideas and menu’s for camping. May you have a wonderful 2024.
Best video of yours I’ve seen yet. You’re dialogue by the campfire…👍🏼
