Paul, I would like to address your hypothetical. When we first got married and I brought Rose to US, I also expected the same reactions. Granted this was 1978 and she was older than me. What we found to be true (and still was until day she died) was that the community (filipino) were the ones who did most of the talking behind your back. At that time it was oh look she married puti so she must work in bar. For years we found that attitude to be true. Rose got to the point where she didn't give a crap, she knew who we were (OBTW she didn't work in a bar, worked on base as a waitress) and was proud of all we had done. Even to this day, I still here the chismis of ohhhh she so young he so old blah blah blah. But when you see a couple that truly love each other no matter what, age doesn't matter. Rose was 9 years older than me and never bothered her, me or our kids. Unfortunately I lost her 19 Oct 2022 holding her hand. I wouldn't trade a thing for our life together except to still have her with me.

Great video Paul & Mike. My first wife was a Filipino born and raised in Hawaii. We were together for 41 years was 16 years older than me but still was ID’d when we ordered drinks when in her 50’s. I look older than dirt and had grey temples and sideburns when I graduated high school. After my first wife died I met my current wife in Cebu she is 15 years younger than I am. Anyone’s “Comments” are easily ignored as my attitude is “Since you’re not sleeping with either of us what do you care?” I am a happy guy.

I wish this guy the best. Personally I’m seeing a recipe for disaster. Maybe he’ll be ok but one thing I learned was never share my credit cards or ATM card with anyone. I have a horror story about that but I’m not sharing it here and it didn’t happen to me, I just helped the guy “American” get through it and get back to the US. Never give up your ATM or charge cards and PIN numbers over there or anywhere else for that matter.

Luckily I found another Filipina here who’d never been married or had kids. No baggage. Was considering moving to the Philippines but lack of healthcare and no rights under the law stopped that idea.

Yeah, Mike's honesty is to be commended. Like all of us, he has challenges ahead - but not necessarily trouble. Friction with stepchildren is nothing new - it's a common dynamic all over the world. If Mike had of shacked up with an American Big Susie with an older kid, he'd face an ever greater challenge. In Mike's favor is that the biological dad's such a deadbeat he's nowhere to be found, so there's no competition or conflict on that front. Mike's a realist, and accepts that Janet's son shall always be her No. 1 - Mike knows he comes in second. To Mike's detriment is that throughout his whole life, he's never had kids of his own - so he lacks parenting and "dad" skills

As an FYI, I'm 59 yo and no matter how old I get I'll always love my mother and, the older she gets, I try and spend time with her. She'd also be the first to tell you that she, nor anyone else, can dictate to me. Secondly, I have traveled fairly extensively. Great video, Paul. I can totally relate! Spent my life as a struggling artist and haven't had a committed relationship in almost 30 years. Just random dating with women with typical American women attitudes. Mom is 92 going on 93 and we talk on WhatsApp at least once a week sometimes more. My sister lives a couple of blocks from her and takes makes sure all her needs are met. Do I miss my career? Sometimes, especially when I see the successes my friends are having. Do I miss my old life before coming here? Absolutely not. It was hard! Had some successes as a working actor, but most years were tough. I tried EVERYTHING to meet the right woman in the US. No luck... at...all. I'm here and have no plans to return for anything other than the occasional visit every few years. My life here is an improvement on every level. Haven't found Mrs Right yet, but I'm enjoying the search and I'm being completely honest so I don't hurt anyone's feelings. I'm sure I'll meet the right woman and, as for staying here, I'm committed to that for life. Thanks again for another good one, Paul.

Thank you both for this video, it's is great to hear honest, first hand accounts from people who have been there, done that. I plan on heading next door to Thailand soon, I've only been tried a month., No S.S. for this kid for another decade.

Nice job Paul. -- Mike is a good guy & I like his gig - already aware ! -- His story was known but it was nice to see you 2 interact. - - - As a 73 year old (somewhat jealous American of you 2) - I get a kick out of watching you guys. > Mark too in his 'palace' by the sea ! - - - The time for such adventure has passed me by - but I enjoy watching you younger guys pursue your dreams. Steve in Traces Martires calls my 'position' right now "God's waiting room" ? - You will get there soon enough - so enjoy it now while you can !!! --- I'll be watching.

Unless you are trying to kill your relationship, never take them to the states except for a short vacation. Seen too many women from other countries completely change away from their traditions after living here. My wife included (Mexican).

@@mcluvin65 how do you know they are loyal? You'd be quite surprised. I am in my early 30s and my Tinder app was exploding of girls my age and below lots of them having what they called 'elder partners' in places like Cebu City especially and Manila. I'd bet over half the girls I met were married already to older westerns, some sending extreme amounts of money but these girls don't care. It's natural they want to have fun while still being young and interact with people their age and I had amazing times with them. These guys get taken advantage over in extreme ways and many don't even know it.

When you are here as a foreigner, you are like king here because you are rich, when you go back to US, you will be just an old ordinary man and she will look like Queen. It happens numerous times, and it will happen again

I visited for one month, got back 3 days ago, yesterday pulled the trigger on retirement and I am moving there at the end of April, probably start in Dumaguete. I visited there and I liked it, good place to start. Thanks to 2 divorces I have very little equity and I rent here in Calgary, but both times I kept my government pension. I have been very lonely while working from home and like Mike I have been single for 6 years, women here like my pocketbook, they don't really care about me. I loved it there and the people are genuinely lovely. Like Mike, my main motivations is to find a partner but also to skip our 6 months of winter. It is -25 here right now.
