Fantastic playing in the iconic Banaras style. Don't understand the negative comments... the maestro is demonstrating the speed of the Tabla for a group of young Western musicians who are not familiar with the music. Of course it is going to progress a little differently than a full Indian Classical Music concert.

Great music and I loved the explanation. Now when I listen to India's classical music I realize that the tabla is talking and not just "percussion".

Train does not mean a railway. Train means a bunch of events following each other spatially or in time. I think thats what he means when he renders the word rela as train. You may not agree with rendering but its not entirely wrong either,

Absolutely correct. Rela means crowd in Urdu which means lot of people in any given space or place..in cotext with tabla or for that matter with pakhawaz it means lot lot of bols (dielects) in a very small pace of time.. please note..if someone is connecting it with train it's humbug

I completely agree. Rela means a fast composition played mostly in the second half of the tabla solo after peshkar,theka,kayeda,bandishein., but it is derived from Rail, as Rail/train also moves slow to very fast.

It's not a raila , it's a basic kayada of Banaras Gharana.
