Correct me if your empirical knowledge says otherwise, but Potassium poliacylate loses the ability to retain water at around 100°C. During sterilisation will lose the water causing the bottom of the bag to soak. After sterilisation it may not retake the lost water in the same way. it would be great to inspect a bag and see before running extensive test, what do you think?

We have ran it before and the gel still holds the moisture.

We also sterilize at 92C

Have had water crystals on the shelve for a decade or two, but never used...got them for plants, and had a thought they would be good for mushrooms. I never used them because mushrooms are notorious for taking up compounds that you would not want in your food. Paul Stamets (fungi perfecti) wrote a book including soil remediation using oysters IIRC and said the fruiting bodies absorb all the heavy metals/toxins ....which you would not want to eat. Which brings me back to water crystals....is it something you want to consume thru mushrooms. Just some food for thought....and I don't have the data, therefore i never experimented with them as they sit on my shelf.

Agree. I think those crystals are made with acrylamide and I think it's toxic.

I did a bit of reading around and it seems it's mostly inert and non soluble. I could always ask my lab buddy to run it for heavy metals

Not soluble doesn't mid there is 0 molecules exange with the shrooms. I think you should discuss that with the FDA just to be sure. On top of that mushrooms are well known to be able to break and absorb a lot of really tough compounds.

Are the water crystals considered food grade? They need to be if we're using them on mushrooms we consume. Nice video. The bags will be great for my Antler Reishi

So none of our substrate is food grade, it's feed grade and fuel pellets. I looked into the product and it's safe for consumption if you ever did, it would just pass through you it's basically inert. None of these mushrooms will be eaten though, only dried and extracted.
