I still have one I built about 25 years ago. Mine was also made from one sheet of plywood, but I can open it from both or either sides so two cooks can each have their own countertop area and can access the interior Counter tops are covered with Formica. It stands on removable legs made from EMT conduit that also support the open countertops. The stove sits at a convenient height on two conduit bars that slide out from the bottom at either end of the unit and cooking utensils hang above the stove. I always stood the legs on 3 inch squares of plywood that I would put ground cinnamon on to keep ants and other bugs out of the box. Ants HATE cinnamon. I haven't used it in several years, mostly because I don't car camp as much anymore but it still holds the venerable Coleman stove and can of fuel, water jug, and all the paraphanalia for cooking and serving food. I suppose it will all require a major scrubbing before it is used again. It was great for week long camping trips at the lake but was heavy and a bit of a pain to get set up on the legs. Once set up, though, it made camp food prep and cleanup a breeze.

Very clean and functional design. My family does a lot of camping and I’ve thought many times of building a chuck box; the idea of having everything in one “package” is appealing. However, when I really think through the pro and cons, I think it would be heavy and awkward to pack and unpack staying with a couple of plano boxes and stove packed loose means each item is manageable size/weight and can be packed around the rest of our gear.

You said a very smart thing about the enamel cookware - food gets cold fast due to thermal conductivity. Someone else said the same. He also has Corelle plates and bowls. You can also use them in a microwave or oven in case of an RV. This is an elegant box build, very lovely. Quite roomy but compact in depth for easy storing back of car.

Enamel ware also chips. When it does, you'll get rust spots. And on the way to getting cold, it gets HOT. TBH, Corelle isn't any better on that, but it won't break with normal care. Lighter than stoneware too. Plastics are really best, as they don't get as hot to handle. If you've got kids old enough to handle it, the old style G.I. mess kits are good. Repros are cheap and more plentiful than you think. But stick with plastic for drinkware. The two box method seems to be a better choice. Stove and cookware in one ( heavy) and dinnerware in the other. And don't forget a good bucket!

@carmenolivieri279

He is recommending that you avoid using any metal dishes because they cause the hot food to cool too quickly. He is suggesting Corningware glass dishes and bowls because they are very durable and lightweight and might not suck heat from your food as quickly. I discovered this long ago and found Corningware works great for car camping.

You might check out Corelle ware I believe in the 60's it was referred to as melmac Lightweight, doesn't break or chip. However, I think it is like metal, it doesn't keep food warm very long. check this out before purchase if hot food is important to you.

Excellent! Thank you
Joli !
Seems you will have trouble getting to spice rack when using stove.
That’s a nice unit, and you fitted it out well. I would urge you to not use those little green propane canisters. They are not recyclable, and are horrible for the environment. Happy Camping
Hi what height is it from top to bottom

Just under 21"
the fuel bottle ? there has to be a better way ?it's simi permanent lock the stove down and plumb a hose and mount the fuel bottle ? why are the spices always so hard to use why do the cups have to be moved , a utensil drawer ? do you have to have the whole box on another flat surface for the table to be used ?
Wait…….who’s Chuck ?
Awsm bt there should be stand fit for height for everyone
I would imagine you could make some legs for it
Pretty nice but I see the open stove blocks access to 2/3 of the spices. Hmm
I want one how much LOL seriously Ohio
This is nice, but I like Bill Dixons chuckbox the best.

Agree completely
1:06 "Corningware" ??? As far as I can tell, Corningware doesn't make any metal plates. Even eBay doesn't list any vintage metal Corningware items. You must mean something else.

After doing some research, I think he meant to say ENAMELWARE which is actually metal coated in a porcelain lining.
