Well maybe, except for Rei. I kinda understand her emotional ineptitude and distance from most of the people. Imagine knowing there are hundreds of clones who look and think exactly like you. Imagine growing up in a laboratory and being thought everything by emotionally unstable scientists, some of whom tried to kill you as a child. In the end Rei was always managing to do the right thing when it was required of her, even at the expense of her own life. Knowing you're a clone doesn't mean you're less afraid to die or less scared of the angels attacking or less sad when someone else dies. Rei never lost her cool and was always acting rational and ready to fight. I'd say her emotional strength and physical pain tolerance is very impressive. In my opinion Rei was the only character who could be called a hero in the series. And was such a stark contrast compared to the rest of the emotionally unstable main characters.

I don't regret buying that Ayanami doll.

Not clone(ish), she's a clone. It was a first attempt by Gendo to bring his wife back but the cloning went wrong with albino version of Yui. Also if she's supposed to be Albino she needs white hair and blue eyes and super pale skin

I literally love Rei so much I can’t stop thinking about her. I know she’s not real but every morning I want to waker up to her sleeping soundly next to me. All my friends tell me that Rei is an npc but I don’t care, I can fix her. I know if she was real she would probably ignore me but I would try to communicate with her anyway. I just want to be with her so badly, the pain of her not being real is unbearable.

@@quohime1824 Lots of reasons. I guess to narrow it down, I love her character growth, which is done very subtly, as she slowly regains her humanity and learns to care for others. Not to mention that she is, imo, the best example of a clone in fiction, as her character covers pretty much every trope related to it, along with all the questions surrounding the nature of them. Also, her relationship with Shinji, as it is thanks to him that she learns to love, especially in Rebuild. Say what you want about how he doomed the world and whatnot, but him reaffirming her individuality I found l incredibly heartwarming. It’s nice to see that, in the last film at least, she is allowed to live. Oh, and yes, her character design being extremely attractive doesn’t hurt either. XD

I personally like Rei better because no reason? I like her immediately once I watch the anime. Even she is practically the clone of protagonist mother which is if you pair it with the protagonist will cause inbreed, at least it's better than the abusive one, the german one. But hey, you do you.
