@@mikshinee87 Oh, I wasn't laughing at Rockette. I live from home too since finding a house is so expensive, school's relatively close by, and it helps my folks to have an extra set of hands around the house. I just think it's a bit of an amusing twist since usually these kinds of videos end with the critters venturing off into the wild while Rockette chose to basically keep living the life she lead before with the exception that she now has her own tree.

Yep. I found a baby that was older than Rockette so she was more independent. I have an old barn next to my house so I moved her out there and started leaving food and water out every other night. She still lives in the barn 3 years later and has had 11 kits during that time. Most of her kits move on after their first winter but a few have also stuck around.

Oh, we got a squad of raccoons that tear up our lawn for worms, my dad hates them. We named the ringleader Phil, hes the chunkiest. One night, i was walking past our screen door and got jumpscared by a raccoon just peering in at me. The lil dude then squared up through the glass. I love raccoons, and sometimes ive seen their lawn rampages in action because of backyard motion lights. They strike in the dead of night, in a pack of four, and they are just so crafty. I'm secretly rooting for Phil to get all the grub he desires. I also recently found out they demolish the entire neighborhoods lawn, not just us. So like if you're a homeowner, probably not ideal, but if you get to just watch the cutest lil scavengers, raccoons are very nice to observe.
The picture of her at the beginning sucking on her rescuer's finger like a bottle, holding it with her tiny hands, that was so damn cute! I bet she comes back with her own babies someday!

Just goes to show how a little bit of kindness can go a really long way. I wish more people out there were like this.
A professional at my local wildlife rescue center told me once that they do not take raccoons to foster because they need extensive care and training if they are going to be released. I think this video does an excellent job of documenting this. What a wonderful woman to give this precious being a loving home and family (including fur babies) I actually am very happy with the lifestyle this raccoon ultimately chose for herself. He had a good meal one evening, played for a while, had a little nap curled up under my arm and then left thru his doggie door....and never returned. Broke my heart. Sweet little angel!
That is amazing. The animal is wild and also with her human Family. So they can be Friends forever and never lose the contact. Good for the animal and good for the human Family as well
The world needs more people like that family.
Fun fact; this is called a soft release, when you let an animal outside in the wild but continue to interact and feed it.

Thanks for the info. They might as well call it a false release because they raccoon is far from being wild. It's like a cat that goes in and out of the house.

@@wilykat Well, cats are a little more than half wild, anyway. And it's not like they were necessarily expecting her to stick around.
If he was my pet I would call him “Meeko” lol 😆

How about Coonie
That’s perfect! I love how they have her living in their backyard and still interact with her.
She is adorable - how lucky for both of you.
FYI to everyone in chat. Dawn Dish soap kills Fleas. Just give the animal a bath with the dish soap. It's safe for them (keep it out of their eyes and mouth). And there's no need for chemical treatment!

any soap will do. it works because soap lowers the waters surface tension to the point lightwights like fleas breaking through the surface and simply drown. tip to get rid of fruit flys: put a glass of sweet juice mixed with a teaspoon of soap in the kitchen ( or where ever you store food )

@@Ugramosch No. Not just any soap. Dawn is environmentally friendly and won't harm the animals eyes etc. That's why it's the only one used to clean up birds and wildlife after oil spills.

@@sassykat2000 may be true, but basically any soap lowers the water surface tension. and that is what kills the fleas.
