He is some education for you. If you find an abandoned fawn, then leave it alone. The mother will come back. She's just out foraging to build up her milk supplies. It is _extremely_ common for them to do this, and it is pretty common for humans to stumble upon an "abandoned" fawn. LEAVE IT ALONE! The mother deer is almost certainly NOT dead. I live in the mountains, and our local paper has to print warnings every year telling people to not do what this lady and her husband did.

@@daithi1966 Thnx David, I knew all about this, as I learned that as well from the first time a fawn was left in our bushes.. the same family came back every year.. never got close to them, but did leave them alone except to throw out some fruit & veggies at times. Our cats sure enjoyed their company.. that being said a fawn is taught lay still and quiet, this one did not, plus the vet said it most likely was left with no mother.. so he was searching/crying because he was hungry..besides, if Thor's family came by, wouldn't you think that that WAS the case..? He wasn't abandoned, but perhaps she did die.. this sweet lady did the right thing in this situation

David Ivey, The way she told how the fawn ran up to her husband and stood on his foot doesn't sound like what you described, and that a vet agreed the fawn had been abandoned might make this situation different. While I agree wholeheartedly that the issues you mentioned are very real, I also know hunters that constantly break the laws and hunt out of season, so which is this, hard to say.

@@daithi1966 You don't know for sure that the mother was out forging somewhere and that she would have returned. I don't know much about deers and fawns, but the vets who work and live out there, know everything about it. If the vet, who is experienced with wildlife says, that the mother either rejected the baby or has been killed, that's good enough for me. I think what this lady did was absolutely remarkable and the relationship she has with Thor is beautiful. Yes, he is free to roam around and do whatever he wants, just like any other deer. Not to say that being trustworthy means that said person is not capable of being angry or exhibiting behaviors that someone will exercise when warranted. I think this is where alot of individuals that think a certain way get "confused". As good/bad isn't a category that people are meant to be placed in. @@philiptownsend4026 my husband was gored by a goat accidentally on his face, but I'm sure deer are a bit more graceful than goats. The goat felt very bad, you could tell. They were both being clumsy and not paying close attention haha.

@@MermaidMakes I hope your husband recovered and that the goat was forgiven. I'm a city person now living in the country but have encountered goats first hand a couple of times, they seemed friendly and playful but a bit exuberant, like dogs. One time a goat jumped into my car and wanted to settle down in the passenger footwell, it wasn't easy getting the goat out, I think she wanted to adopt us. The goat wasn't homeless, it had human owners. So as you say, it most probably was an accident. I am aware that our cats have good sets of sharp weapons from birth and always respect them, particularly those from feral backgrounds, not quite tame.

@@philiptownsend4026 thank you! my husband is also what I would call a "city person" but with the heart of a country boy, as he took to this life out here in the country where I was raised pretty well, and goats quickly became one of his favorite animals. I love goats, and I've always said they are like the dogs of the barnyard animals. Also very clumsy and silly like dogs can be. It happened because he went to sit down on a bench to play with them and one of them jumped up on the bench at the same time and hit my husband square in the chin with his horns on the way up, luckily avoiding any vital structures. He just had a bloody chin the rest of the day. The goats are always forgiven 😆. It was a young yearling goat, so they both learned an important lesson of mutual respect that day!! I think cats are creatures that demand respect whereas with dogs and goats it is easy to forget their sharp parts because of how personable they are until an accident like this happens.

Stories like this are so cool to me because they make you realize that the animals with whom we share the planet are no different than we are. They are us and we are them. Just because we don’t communicate on the same level 95% of the time or share the same concerns doesn’t mean that we’re all that different. If more of us would choose to engage and to learn, as opposed to viewing them only or primarily as a source of food or entertainment, relationships like this one would be so much more common.

I just looked up the definition of the word rare. I think this qualifies. Here it is: rare [rer] ADJECTIVE (of an event, situation, or condition) not occurring very often: There are nearly 8 billion people in the world. I don’t know how you are in a position of authority as to the occurrences of a human rearing of a wild fawn but I have to believe if you think it’s unique it is most likely rare. What good comes from parsing words here? Are you an English major looking for a job? Maybe you should open a poem repair shop where people can make use of your giant intellect. 🤷🏻‍♂️
