Regular Car Reviews: 1977 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Restomod

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Owned by my good friend Neal. Yes, The Real Neal. This is a longer video because Neal has lots of good explanations for why the C3 are the way they are. You'll like this one!

I've always loved the C3 body style. I'm old enough to have remembered when they were on the road normally. The C4 seemed like they took the curves of the C3 and flattened them out. I was not happy. It was like dating a girl with big boobs only to come home one day and find that she had a breast reduction, not because she needed it, but because she thought big boobs were ugly.

There was a good time spent on the technical details, and the various upgrades made to the car to satisfy the 'gearheads', but what I enjoyed the most is, how well the youngish presenter described the essence of the seventies at the end. From someone who didn't live then, that was awesomely well done, and I say it as an old geezer, who was a young adult at the time. Keep up this fantastically good work, and keep up this one-of-a-kind eclectic approach!

I just purchased my first Vette an 81 L48 auto minus the L48 and trans, I will be putting a 5.7L and trans from a wrecked IROC Camaro into it over the winter hopefully it will be a decent toy to drive around.

There's no separate button to do it without turning on the lights though. I'm guessing this one just has a bad electrical connection or maybe the headlight hydraulic pumps (if it has those) are just a little slower on one side than the other.

As usual another great commentary. So true. We drove across America in the summer of 1977 in a black trans am. Before the smokey and bandit movie came out. No joke. I remember how the fleet wood mac rumors album was played on every station coast to coast. God I loved that album. And couldn't wait to hear the same songs over and over. I remember the older kids around 17 and I thought they were so adult and cool with their long hair and bell bottoms. They also seemed reckless and fearless. I was seven.

Great video! I have a spot for these cars for some reason, especially the pre 78 small window cars, so it's nice to see someone else who appreciates them. I really like this particular car, but I'm not sure if it really fits the "resto mod" theme. Yes, it's being restored to non-original specs, but I don't think that in itself qualifies as resto mod. The fact that he's using a motor older than the car itself is pretty counter to the resto mod recipe. While the SBC is a great motor, it's low tech and what was available in the original car. And those "high flow Z/28 heads" were probably great in the day, but they are far behind a good set of aftermarket aluminum heads (as well as being designed for a 302cid engine, so I wonder how well they flow on a 350inch. I know for a fact 305 heads are a power killer on a 350 - smaller valves and combustion chambers). He's also running old style wheels, and there's no mention of big brakes. I think a correct "restomod" would be if he was running a LS motor (or at least an EFI setup on his SBC), big brakes with at least 17" wheels, and some suspension mods. Just my .02. I'm certainly not shitting on his car, I like it very much. I would consider it more of a nice driver though.

Hey Neal, this car is glorious. I just bought my '77 Lady and she's rough, but I am stoked to rebuild the L48 from the block up, stuff it with modern parts and completely remove my (Also red, unfortunately) interior. We're hoping to get about 385~390HP out of her, with a Fitech EFI system and sidepipes(because America). I'm more of a Hurst kind of guy, but all that work you did to that car brings a tear to the eye. It's the definition of what a "regular guy" can do to a classic piece of automotive art like the 77 with time, determination, passion, and money. This channel is awesome.

why not? Put the money where it counts (engine, suspension, mechanical) and go cheap on something that will have to get replaced sooner rather than later. As long as you're getting your 14.5 volts ans 500 cold ranking amps you're fine. I used a Farm and Fleet battery on my old car.

Being born in 1980, my parents brought me home from the hospital in my Dad's 79 Corvette. Can you imagine a new mother today just putting her newborn in her lap of a two seater for the ride home? Dad always had Vettes when I was a kid. I used to ride in the back of there. How safe. I made it! I totally forgot about that lock cylinder for the alarm on the fender! God, I remember how scorching hot those mf door handles would be in the sun! I love how the Miata RF has that buttress like this C3, and MR2.
