#7 is definitely me. I can’t wait to move back to upstate/ western NY. After doing 6 years in Florida I realized Buffalo winters aren’t so bad. I’d much rather look out my back door and see woods and deer instead of a bunch of nosey Gladys Kravitz HOA ladies.

Tell me about it. 😢 I'm born and raised in SoCal. It's s***. The weather is nice but boring and we still get some hurricanes, tornadoes, people don't know that because they are mild for sure but they do damage. Flooding recently made thousands of people lose their homes (cars were floating away down the sides of freeways). We pay taxes out the nose on income and everything else and they don't funnel back to communities that need it. Crime is rising consistently everywhere. It's basically impossible to run a small business. Even if you do resale online CA taxes more.... The schools are crap. We have barely any freedom and protection for our kids. One saving grace is homeschool and I'm sure the psychopath Gov Newsome would do away with that if he could. Mindless policies wanting to wreck our grid with forcing electric cars (which do as much or more pollution to the environment....) when our grid can't maintain summer weather without black outs. Also how do ppl think the grid is run? Magic? How are solar panels made? It all takes fuel.... Groceries and gas and gas tax is crazy. Healthcare is a joke. Had to find a small clinic with a reasonable doctor and now that she's homeschooling her kids, I am out of a doctor that knows the difference between @$$ and elbow. But there are still plenty of people that think it's the bees knees out here. Most expensive properties are owned by people that don't live here....let that sink in. They are out of country most the year or from another state/country. Or just super old.

There is a HUGE Elephant in the Room that is NOT discussed is your SOURCE of income You used to be able to come to Florida because it was affordable to live on Social Security or a FIXED retirement check. Because the cost of Insurance is increasing faster than cost of living increases with SSI you NEED ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF INCOME BEFORE YOU MOVE HERE Passive income like Rental, Royalties etc is a MUST have in assisting with these increasing costs of living here. Don’t leave your home without it. Even selling your existing home and thinking you come here pay full price for the new home without a Mortgage. You will be shocked of how many people here are moving bc the increases in Insurance, H.O.A.s, and potential Additional Condo Assessment fees will totally wash out your life long Savings over time. There’s no guarantee it will be a one and done assessment. Just like your roof and water heater etc at current home it will need to be replaced here over AGAIN. And these costs here are Not for the faint of heart. So, Due Diligence with a Financial Advisor is a Must BEFORE you move here. Good Luck.

Yes I keep saying Florida is the land of extremes. You have very rich and the very poor. You have NE city slickers and southern rednecks. 100 year olds on the road wanting to do 20mph under the limit, others wanting to go 20+ over. Lots of very snooty people and also lots of trashy people. Some very nice friendly people and the totally bat poop crazy. The contrast of all these very different people living in one place makes for just a very bizarre place to live. It gets daunting putting up with all the wackiness on a daily basis.

Some of the changes are happening everywhere not just Florida. Our house tripled in value, or if your buying cost 3 times more. Polarizing politics are everywhere. Because of interest rate hikes it cost more than ever to buy a house. Because of inflation, wages could never keep up. Almost every state in the US has extreme weather cold short days in North tornadoes in mid west, even California has earthquakes and extreme drought in South West. So if you're not happy in Florida good luck finding something better anywhere else. If one place was perfect, everyone would move there and ruin it.

Plus many places in FL have no street lights which freaks me out being from NJ where we always have street lights. State taxes matter

Thanks for validating my suspicions. My father keeps trying to get me to move down there. But I've BEEN to Florida a few times on vacations, & I wasn't really all that impressed. As a senior, I've actually outgrown being a sun worshipper. Photo aging is the LAST thing I need more of! Sure, winters are a pain in the Northeast, but they beat the hell out of hurricanes!!! Politically, I would probably prefer a red state. But old habits die hard. And I feel I have memories & a history here, whereas there, it just feels like everyone is from somewhere else, & they're all seeking glamor, & a perpetual paradise that doesn't really exist. The traffic sounds awful, too! There's a lot to be said for roads less traveled. It's maybe a nice place to visit once in a while, but it wouldn't feel like home to me.

You are so right. Great summary of the factual realities of Florida. When I moved here over 35 years ago, it was my dream come true, but over time, my dream turned into a nightmare. I do regret leaving the northeast, where I grew up, but after I set roots, realized too late what I had gotten myself into, but there was no turning back. I currently advise everyone not to move to Florida, and whoever is already here I encourage them to leave the state as soon as possible and go elsewhere. The state of Florida is good for the rich who live here part-time and use it as a second home. However, as a working-class person, life in Florida is a struggle and daily grind. There are far better alternatives elsewhere in the US. Unless you have a specific reason or purpose to live in Florida don't come, in the long run, other states offer better options and should be seriously considered.

Good weather and it doesn't get any more corrupt... They can live in the most progressive state in the Union... And they don't need 2 troubled themselves with voting. Get an education. California is one of the few states that could survive on its own outside the Union. The vast majority of conservative states would fall into ruin if they weren't held up financially by the taxes taken from liberal states. Liberal states are literally paying for the roads, schools, and infrastructures of states like Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, parts of Florida, Arkansas, etc. YOU'RE WELCOME!

We live in the suburbs of Cincinnati and home prices have gone up 80%-100 % since we built our home in 2014 and the traffic is getting horrendous not to mention 5-6 months of dark, dreary, cold weather and being stuck inside waiting until mid to late spring for outside activities.
