    Great job by your team to find such a great airplane with such low hours. I'd love to see a follow-up video showing what it's like when she's finished. And you're absolutely right, somebody is gonna grab this one QUICK once it hits the market.

    I put a Performance Engines IO-550 in my Velocity XL-5 RG. 370HP. It would easily exceed the plane’s Vne of 200 kts in level flight at low altitudes. Sea level to 10,000 feet in just over 3 minutes. 195 kt cruise on 13.5 gph and long range cruise of 170 on 9 gph. Those engines are beasts and most make 10 or 15 hp over their rated power.

    That’s a good start to an awesome float plane. Visit Seaplanes West (Acorn Welding) while in Canada for a conversion, beefed up struts for part of the gross weight increase and Aerocet 3400 amphibs. I have 1976 182P setup that way and it’s great plane. Have to keep these low time 182P to R’s heading in that direction. Impossible to replace with anything that comes close. As far as the speed debate, 150 TAS on wheels is reasonable.

    Wow, nailed the runway end line on landing within a few feet, impressive. If she'd cruise at 160 kts true I'm in. My old flt school put a 250 hp O-470 in their 182Q, it was a nice little upgrade from the 235 hp. I remember a AirForce LTC flying a E8 F16 mechanic up to Bullhead City from GYR in that upgraded 250 hp 182Q. Calm day, 88°F and engine had 80 hrs on it. They where on flightradar 24, flightaware and plane finder cruising at 168 kts, at times, 177-179 kts at 5500-7000 ft, 192 mph, on Flightaware which is mph but the other two are grnd speed kts over 165 kts, that is bookin. Put wheel pants on it and you'd probably see a 2 gph drop and 7-9 kt increase.

  • @BryantVucich

    @BryantVucich

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't see how a 15 HP increase would net that much cruise speed? That's comparable to a 210. This one probably won't break 150 knots true, the airframe isn't built for speed. You'll see most of the performance in the takeoff/climb.

  • @MasterCarguy44-pk2dq

    @MasterCarguy44-pk2dq

    Жыл бұрын

    @@BryantVucich its a much lighter plane for starters and has carbon aero wheel pants, STC upgraded air intake system and g5's, etc. It dropped 40 lbs. 165 kts true is believable because a friend in a 74' 210 NA cruises at 158-165 true.. His turbo 210 would cruise at 185 all day at 12,000. Each engine will perform differently whether its in a car, truck, bus or plane and the many other factors.

    You're looking at roughly $75-80k for the upgrade with a reman engine. Weight and balance are not effected too much as the 6-cylinder engines weigh pretty close to each other. Really a great upgrade for a 182.
