Refugees and Migrants: Legal and Human Challenges

The refugee and migration crisis and its appalling human consequences have been qualified by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as a ‘failure’ and a ‘moral collapse’.
For this first IHL Talk, co-organized with the Global Migration Centre, panelists will discuss how international organizations are dealing with the operational, legal and human challenges this unprecedented scale of movement of population across borders has created for the international community.
Welcoming Remarks
Dr Annyssa Bellal, Strategic Adviser on IHL and Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy
Moderation
Heba Aly, Journalist and Director, IRIN
Panelists
Michele Klein-Solomon, Senior Advisor to the Director-General, International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Vincent Chetail, Professor, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and Director, Global Migration Centre
Madeline Garlick, Chief, Protection Policy and Legal Advice Section, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
