Refinishing my blue tub & tiles with marine paint! | START to FINISH | Topside paint | DIY Bathroom

Ойын-сауық

Bathtub refinishing with marine paint! I decided to resurface tub and tiles with marine paint. I etched the tub and tiles with Bathworks EZ-etch and sanded surface to prep for priming. I taped everything off and I primed the tub and tiles with Rust-oleum Marine coatings Topside paint metal primer. In between coats I lightly sanded and wiped everything down with a tack cloth. I decided to use an air compressor spray gun to apply Rust-oleum marine coatings topside paint in white with semi gloss finish. I ended up spraying 3 coats of marine paint with 24hr cure time in between along with sanding and wiping surface down. Application went by smoothly with the spray gun! Proper ventilation and mask is required. I will update on how marine paint holds up on tub and tiles!

It was quite the job! I ended up using 1 can of primer and 1 1/2 cans of the marine paint. The paint was used to do 3 full coats with spray gun and 2 additional coats on floor of tub. Not bad at all!! I WILL update how it holds up. So far after many uses it’s looking promising 🙌

I think the semi-gloss looks great! Its very tranquil and clean and gives the bathroom an overall serene feeling. I didnt realize I would like it so much better than glossy🤷‍♀🤷‍♂ Your screen might be screwed, but screen isn't very hard to replace👍

For sure doing updates, few months and a year! I did that with the last refinishing also. I think it’s important to show how these things hold up. I’m not afraid to say it failed/ I failed 😂 thank you for the encouraging words! ♥️ you can really do anything you put your mind / energy to 😇

It won’t hold up, it will peel and turn yellow. Been doing industrial coatings for 25 years and run a professional reglazing business. I see this all the time, the paint stores and hardware stores sucker people into doing this, it ends up being a disaster. They don’t sell the right prepping compounds like “hydrofloric acid” and they don’t sell porcelain bonding agents, so the prime doesn’t adhere to the tub and tile surface very well. It’s sad the stores don’t educate customers on this. This is a nice job but unfortunately it’s not going to last very long.

Thank you! I am actually happy with the semi gloss now that I see it done. I was so upset I got the wrong finish 😆 trial and errors over here 🤷‍♀️ but I’m impressed!

Great job young lady. I like the semi gloss finish better than the high gloss. The SG is just as durable and doesn't reflect light as much as the HG.

It’s going to start to peel in a few short months. You need to etch the tub and tile with Hydrofloric acid. Even if you prime but don’t etch it will peel. Then you have a nightmare.

Do you you have to sand the primer? I’ve never sanded primer with anything else before.

I did a very light sand 🤷🏻‍♀️ but yea I don’t think you sand primer 😆 but it’s been holding up like a dream

It want last. Need to have a professional refinisher do the job. It is a lot more to refinishing then most people think. Been refinishing tile and tubs for over 35 years and when done right will last a long time.

This is absolutely not a DIY project, I appreciate your ambition and drive to attempt this undertaking. But this is not only not going to hold up, this is a process that to be done correctly is very dangerous if you are not properly trained and have the correct safety equipment. This is a project that should be left to a well qualified and properly trained professional. You're going to have a nightmare situation when this starts peeling in the 6-12 months.
