Welcome to another day in my life vlog! In this one, I'm trying to refill the creative well. I finished my novel, Project Tea Cup, and started querying it about a month ago and i'm almost at the point where i"m ready to start a new story. However, I don't ... quite feel ready yet? So, I spent the day at the library researching, and did a bunch of peaceful, cozy things.
In this one, I talk all about querying, give you a tour of my bookshelves, and mention the writing of new stories and projects 👀 I hope you enjoy it 💛

P.S. Just in case you read this - It was so brave and amazing of you to get that novel completed and tidily sent away in the first place. Good things will happen, even if they take time. Just focus on self love and believe you're worthy of everything. I'd tell you this because it's what I'd tell myself. Your belief in your story should be stronger than what anyone else says. If you truly know it's a valuable story, it will find its way. 💖

I believe in the intent here but then I remembered people from marginalized backgrounds are blocked regardless at times or have quite literally had our work destroyed and lost to time so not every story that’s valuable will be seen and it’s why it’s important that we challenge book bans and/or injustices against one another. That being said, I do believe she’s well on her way to achieving her goal and does just have to trust the process as you said 😊

Christy, I don't think you realise quite what an inspiration you are. The fact that you can be tired and stressed and have stuff in life that worries you, but still take such a positive view of it and be so determined to keep learning and growing - you are the example we all need in our lives.

I just finished the artist's way for the first time in my life after trying it two times previously, (ages 23 & 27) and out popped my first novel! The book holds so many truths about dangers to creativity that I had taken so much of it to heart already, and integrated it into my life without even realizing where it was from. It's not for the faint of heart and I had to lay some ground rules for myself - with centered the pages on my creativity and not on the problems or behaviors of others (cant control those!) but they taught me some HUGE lessons this go around and I am now trying to maintain them. Good luck, i think you will really benefit even though you are very in touch with your creativity obv.

I discovered Goblin Market myself last month after going to a Rossetti art exhibit here in London. It's a beautiful illustrated edition and similarly, it was the visuals that got me. Plus the word 'goblin'... Anyway, I loved it! Wishing you all the best luck with the queries. I'm going through a similar application-filled-time right now and it's ROUGH :/ But I've found taking breaks and doing other things every now and then to recharge is very, very helpful. My father got me the Artist's Way years ago (closer to when it was released). It's such a mixed bag but I've always found it to be a great way to reset my schedule when things get messy. Every time I've done it I've learned something new about my own creative process but I don't always find the exercises useful apart from the 3 pages and the artist's date. Both provide a great framework for emptying the mind and refilling the well.

Thank you for posting this, Christy! First time commenter; I have also submitted queries for my YA novel around the same time you did. I completely understand your feelings of stress when it comes to querying. Most authors say edits are the hardest, but I think it's this part! As much as I want us both to succeed, I'm glad that I'm not alone in feeling the way I do about the query trenches, and I agree with finding time to do things creatively in order to renew that spark. When I sent my novel out, it felt like I was completely drained the creativity department, and I just couldn't get into writing at all. It's getting better; I've already in the process of outlining my second novel, but I'm grateful that you made this video in order for us writers to deal. I look forward to when your book gets picked up (as I know it will). 😉

Hi Christy, every time you talked about querying in this video I felt like you were plucking the thoughts right out of my own head. I started querying four months ago and I totally feel you on the stress, the pain of rejection, AND the pain of someone asking for a full manuscript and sitting on it for months mulling it over. The only thing that saved me was when classes started again in September (I'm a grad student in the US). Because I was losing my mind over the summer with nothing to distract me. Anyway, I'm glad I found your channel and I'm excited to follow your journey!

I haven't gotten to the point of querying yet but I can definitely see how there would be struggles of finding a traditional publisher. The resilience to face rejections and keep going is admirable. I hope you find a reliable and trustworthy agent soon. How about changing the style of pitching or querying? You never know what style can click to them. Think from their perspective, in whole lot of emails how can your email catch their eyes? Subject line? How about write a powerful line describing your story that they cannot avoid opening the email and going through the manuscript? Or how about putting an imp cliffhanger in the subject line? That describe the premise of your story.. I am noone to suggest, but your video made me write this comnent. I hope it helps in any way.

Your accent is beautiful, I`m slightly confused though, There`re tiny american sounds actually Where are you from? England? I`m a latin man who pushes himself everytime to get into real england accent , might sound weird but it is what it is

I remember Christy answering this in one of her Q&A's. 😄She's Australian but she has British relatives and also taught American English in Japan. I've always loved her accent too.

Thank you for normalising working and writing but also normalising not having a room or wall of bookshelves to read from
