Good work! The one question I had was on your positioning on the penalty. I've been taught to be in the penalty area, roughly even with the spot itself. Is there an advantage to being at the top of the area instead?

Thank you! And hmm interesting.. the reason I stand at the top is so I can see if there’s any encroachment by the players on the edge of the box. What’s the reasoning behind standing even with the spot?

@@refcam To be honest, I don't know. I suppose it's a good way to see everything at once? It's probably the best place to be if you don't have ARs for some reason.

Yes one of my assistants brought that up in our post-game. If the foul is warranting of a second yellow I should call the foul and give the second yellow.

Very nice content but in my opinion you've been a bit too strict with the cautions.

Thank you! I somewhat agree with you actually, in my defense though these teams had been involved in some bench clearing brawls that season so I was extra harsh to avoid that hahah

@@refcam Ahahah gotcha, obviously I didnt know about that. Anyway, I'mma start a refereeing course here in Italy and, even if I've been keen on this world for a long time, I'm soooo nervous mostly because here in italy the football environment /culture is quite toxic in particular against referees (in fact there've been many episodes of young referees mugged by parents or coaches....) Do u have any tips for me?

Well for starters great on you for being brave enough to pick up the whistle. Maybe I’ll eventually make a longer form video on tips but I’ll give you a few now that really helped me at the start 1) study the laws of the game as much as possible. Some of it comes down to “experience” but the majority is just do you actually know the laws? 2) if youve you’ve studied the laws be confident in your calls. A lot of new refs will see the foul but hesitate to call it, play continues for a few seconds and it feels Like it’s too late so the call isn’t made. Blow your whistle and blow it confidently even if you’re only 60% sure blow the whistle like you’re 150% sure. 3) look the part. Doesn’t have to be the most expensive whistle or gear and you can get away with a few questionable attire choices at the start but spend the first few reffing fees on a proper attire. It goes a long way 4) look for mentors and start at the lower ages. I started reffing 6 year olds and slowly worked up. Each time I moved up a skill or group level I did so slowly to get a feel for the league and it’s members and also learn from other referees already there. When I first started doing this Sunday league I only did 2nd division and assistant referee. 5) Don’t put yourself at risk. You’re right the culture is only getting more and more violent. Refuse games with team with a history of violence, call of games early and leave if it gets too dangerous and remain vigilant. And finally if it get there become a refereeing fan. Loads of reffing content out there from reffing associations to former and current pro refs. See how they do or did it and learn from them. My all time fav referee is Pierluigi colina (retired) and Iván Barton (active) Hope it goes well for you! Feel free to DM me or comment whenever if you have any questions

@@refcamThank you so much for your tips ( and for your time ) you know, being a referee ain't easy at all, but I'll try my best trying to follow your suggestions. If I can ask u, then I wont annoy u anymore ahaha, How should a referee be positioned? I mean, you gotta be near the action to see a foul, but if you're too near you risk not have a complete visual and you may have problems if there's a long ball to the opposite part of the field. At the same time you also have to deal with the offsides.... Thanks again for your time
