Please note that I’m a folk musician and fiddler, and I don’t consider myself a classical violinist. In my experience of the folk tradition, techniques tend to be somewhat informal, variable, and flexible, so take what I say with a grain of salt :) My thoughts on fiddling are based on my own personal musical experience. If you’re looking for more formal violin technique and instruction, there are other resources out there that are geared towards that!
These videos are not intended as a substitute for the advice of a medical professional (when it comes to any thoughts on techniques such as posture, hand placement, etc).
Happy fiddling, friends!

You always look so relaxed when you play. How do you “get” there?

Honestly, it really helped me to play at Irish sessions, where we were playing for HOURS and I just had no choice but to relax, so that I could keep on playing :) More to talk about here, but maybe in a future video!

One of the most didactic lesson on youtube about bow work. As a self-touched fiddler (from Spain) is hard to get bow thecnique references, so thank you about this lesson. I take this opportunity to tell you one of my biggest doubts. When to use them? It has never been clear to me what it depends on, within the Irish, Scottish styles Does it depend on the type of song (reel, hornpipe, slipjig, etc)?

Great question. I would use these slurs in reels, for sure. You could also use them in hornpipes and sometimes in marches. I'd like to do another video on how to know where to place reel bowings sometime!

@@LizFaiellaMusic Thank you Liz, i really apreciate it! I think it's one of the hardest things to learn from the fiddlers I learn from. Many of them use phrases that fit the type of song, with the corresponding bow rhythm and with the corresponding tonic within each measure, but in most cases it is complete chaos, which makes self-learning difficult. Make it clear that this is not your case. It is quickly appreciated as soon as you learn any song taught by you and the ligature approach that you always do (even if it is simple). I give a thousand thanks for it.
