Reel Mower FAQ Toro Greensmater

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Reel mower frequently asked questions.
In this video I wanted to answer some questions that people have asked me about the lawn mower that I use. It is a Toro Greensmaster 1000 and 1600. These mowers are designed to be used in a golf course environment. When they age they get sold off to people in the secondary homeowner market. I love this mower and the cut quality.

Those are amazing prices! For both the repair and machinery itself! You got a steal of a deal! Also, that beast beats any Tru Cut, Cal Trimmer, and definitely McLane! That machine is meant for a true lawn enthusiast who loves to #enjoythemow and is willing to maintain their lawn several times a week, and will check reel to bedknife contact every time, and who truly does enjoy some of the finer things in life. Easiest way I’d compare the two is one that: the Toro is driving a Cadillac, while the over is like driving a Mazda. They really are in two separate categories. Commercial vs Homeowner.

I bought a Toro Greensmaster 1000 from my country club for $400 after watching this video a few months ago. They tuned it up and sharpened the blade prior to letting me purchase it. You are not kidding about the learning curve. The thing is a beast and its a work out to use it. I've used it 4-5 times on my small lawn and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. The wheel axles are a pain when you get up against fences and rocks. The funny things is I'm building a new house and at that house I'm going to create an amazing medium sized lawn that I'm gonna design around my Greensmasters and its limits and abilities!

Just used my new California Trimmer today. One difference is the drive wheels instead of the rear drum. My yard was a little soft from all the rain and the wheels left little wheel tracks even with a roller on the front. Definitely something for people to think about when getting a reel mower.

I bought a 2006 GreensMaster 1600 a couple months ago for $875. Talked the guy down from a grand. I'm lucky to have my country club mechanic available to me for essentially anything. Bottle of scotch for him and a nice bottle of wine for his wife and the reels are sharp. I've had a few GreensMaster mowers and believe it or not the basic maintenance is pretty simple. Sharpening is the difficult part. I cut between .1 and .125 inches depending on the time of year. It's a bentgrass putting green, not a lawn. Great machine.

Connor Ward Corresponded under vedio's Applying Humic Acid. Purchased Trucut c27. My lawn starts from the road at 30 degrees and levels off. It's like mowing a huge ball. The Trucut has wheels instead of the rear roller and climbs these areas with ease. I mow parallel to the hill side, and it works well. I checked on the Toro, John Deere, and Jacobson. They almost double the weight of my True Cut. I found the True cut is easier for me to handle. If my lawn were flat, my choice would have been a Toro, or Jacobsen, or John Deere. Thanks for the great and informative vedios.

My Tru-cut cost me $2200 brand new and it costs me $120 to grind sharpen my blades. Not sure I can remove the wheels. The front bagger isnt as good as your Toro. By the way, do not lose any sleep over the removal of grass clippings. Removal of clippings will reduce the occurrence of fungal issues. However, that can be more of an issue in hot humid environments that your bluegrass cannot survive in. I live in central Florida and have Empire Zoysia. I also am a Florida Certified Operator in pest control as well as Lawn and Ornamental (35 years) Great info by the way!

I never mulch! You can’t mulch when you keep the lawn that low. A tall think lawn will easily hide the clippings. A short trim lawn leaves them sitting on top to rot. They look terrible and when it rains you get those ugly lines of clippings all over. With a short lawn, bag those clippings every time!

The mowers are designed for walk mowing greens and you don't stop walking to make the next cut pass. You spin the mower around and with a flat gas can you'd leak gas on your turf. Gas kills turf. Also Connor please don't refill your gas with the mower on the grass.

  • @lawnrebel

    @lawnrebel

    6 жыл бұрын

OK. I promise you. No more gas on the lawn. I also think the reason that the gas can has that tall neck is for when you tilt the mower on its back to check reel to bed knife and check height of cut. When it's laid down on it back the gas does not spill out because of the neck. Just like day break said. But honestly I do not know I could be wrong.

So I have a chance at 1000 for $1000 bucks but it is ready to go. It's for sale at my local lawn repair shop. What's your opinion?

Yea I was like, $400!! What an idiot..... Then you mentioned the new air filter, and I thought.... ahhhh.... OK then.... lol ;p (universal sign of just kidding around)....

Yeah... The air filter was like 300$ the rest was labor. I was looking through the bill a few days ago. He charged me 120$ for reel grinding then 2.5 hours at 65$ per hour. Then the rest was parts.

You know I was just picken at ya. I looked for one of those a few years back because I wanted to try my hand at making my own putting green. Even with the rebuild cost you got a steal..

400$ isn’t shit man if you think about it. You payed 600$ for a flawless reel. Even if you wanna replace just the reels yourself it’s like 200$ at least

I'd save up and find a used triplex mower...you have a sizeable open lawn...triplex would be ideal

how do u kill grassy weeds?

  • @lawnrebel

No. That is too difficult. The only real way to deal with them is to let them grow tall and hand wipe them with roundup. They grown taller than the normal desirable grass so they are easy to see but that means I have to let the lawn grow tall and ...... I do not want it to grow tall.

Can use a pre emergent in early spring to prevent them from popping up in the first place.

Pre-emergent doesn't work on perennial grassy weeds. Only on germinating seeds.
