Finally got my first livestock! I left a comment a while ago about me saving up for my first reef tank. Well… after 2 month of cycling I finally have my first fish and cuc. Got a tuxedo urchin, 3 snails and a pair of clowns. It’s a 55 gallon tank and I’m happier than ever. Thanks for the great videos!

Wow it looks great!!! I’d like to get a leather like that! My phosphate and nitrate are both on the high side. I have to get my refugium going asap. You mentioned things happening even with good water quality. Not sure if you’ve heard of Rico’s Aquarium? He has a 500 gallon reef tank. He had a problem and started to lose entire Colonies of corals and couldn’t figure why. He had icp tests ran on everything and they came back good. He ended up getting contacted from Brightwell and they sent him a bucket of Purit. He started running it through a reactor and his tank turned around immediately. He never did figure out what contaminated his tank. So you’re right it just goes to show that even with perfect water quality things definitely can happen in a tank.

Hi Dave, it’s a long polyp leather. It was the size of my thumb when I got it. 😊 it’s probably going on 5 years old. Yea, colonies die, RTN can occur, and parameters can be fine. If your running high on nutrients the refugium will definitely help lower nitrate. Phos. Not as much. Try a few large water changes in the same week. 👍🏻

Had this exact same toadstool, and it was much more sensitive than other color morphs. It seemed to get sick when everything else was thriving even other types of sarcophyton. Eventually died off completely.

Hi Frikkie, I had an offspring of this large one that died, however I didn’t react to the necrosis like I did to this one. You have to cut it out at first sight. It’s looking quite healthy now. 👍🏻

The tanks are looking good dude i can never keep a bubble anemone bubbled up but i sure love the way they look when they are... are you going to reefapalooza this year i know u were a bit let down last year but you never know it may b better hopefully ill see ya there if you do go Sunday

Hey IBEW BRO, I’ve only kept a few anemones over the years. They’re limiting because they can cause problems to other corals. I’m not putting anything else in the 10 gallon and I’ll focus on water quality. I should be going to RPNYC. 😃just to have some video fun 👍🏻

Hi Tom, how long have you been using reef crystals? Your aquariums are beautiful and healthy. I am not I see people here on the internet who use this salt, I only see people using redsea and tropc marin which are very expensive. thanks for the videos they are very cool

Hi Jean, yes, the 10 gallon finally cleared. I added some activated carbon about 1 month ago and that seemed to make it clear. I am happy with the emerald crab. It is doing well. Fun to watch it! 👍🏻😁

Hi Ralph, I could do a video on STN and RTN, but there would be no definitive answer for why it occurs. Bleaching is similar. Very confounding for many reef keepers. 😊

Hi! Great looking tanks! My dream is building several species tanks along a wall if I ever had the money :) Also, idk if someone already asked this but what are those little floating critters in the refugium? They kinda look like mosquito larvae. Are they some special giant copepod species?

I’ve been feeding SA pellets, mixed food, shrimp, mysis etc. every day so far. It’s growing fast👍🏻😊

hey tom how are you i wanted to ask you could i add a few anemones in my five gallon tank cause ive never owned one and dont know how often and fast they grow

It looks like the gorgonian was stinging your leather causing the issue with it.

Hi ozzman, I’m not aware of Gorgonians stinging. There is not any research on that. Usually they retract if anything touches them. I’ll keep an eye on them though
