Reed Sheppard's HISTORIC Start | First Look

Спорт

Reed Sheppard has been the biggest surprise of the college basketball season not only becoming Kentucky's best player but a legit NBA prospect all while putting up historic numbers off the bench. Sheppard's unbelievable hands and defensive activity, matched with knock down shooting and high feel give him a great base to be a complimentary NBA guard; but questions about his athleticism and creation upside remain.

Sadly we rarely get these White American guys early in their career. Like I would have loved a JJ Reddick or Grayson Allen early in their career. Hopefully we get this kid cause he seems like the type we need next to Wemby but we might go for the no-defense Topic or something sadly@@BombSwanson

He's gotta defend, otherwise Sochan is stuck defend the PG and we need him to defend wings. We need a high level defensive PG who can shoot. Playmaking is less critical cause Wemby will playmake a lot from the post for this team based on the last few games. But if we get a killer on defense, then have Sochan on the best Wing, and Wemby inside, that's a killer team next to two guys who can create offense (Devin/Keldon/Malakai)@@bballer191

I think something that makes him very intriguing is his ability to pass and shoot; off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations. His passing is the skill that will unlock his shooting if paired up with a big that can set good screens and roll well to the basket. There’s definitely a world where he plays on a team with a big man like such and absolutely torches defences on a nightly basis. He will need more craft but there’s definitely an avenue to him finding success in the cat and mouse game that we call the pick and roll

Similar to Derrick White. Can play on or off ball as a playmaker/connector, elite shooting, high iq, elite defensively. This is an extremely rare archetype. White has always been one of the best impact players in the entire league and I see the same with Reed. He should be in #1 pick discussions

I was right there with you until the last sentence. You wouldn't take White #1 overall.... and Sheppard won't go #1 overall either. He's good, but the #1 pick will have higher upside. If it was me, I'd take Sarr #1. I'm Australian, so I've watched him a lot and he's being REALLY under-utilised by Perth's shitty coach.

I get the concerns but they're concerns about every prospect. The numbers are ridiculous and in a draft where there's this much uncertainty and he's dominating at this level, why not top 5? Like being good at basketball matters. Yes the self creation could be a concern but he's also smart and can figure that out. He does way too much stuff that you can't teach.

Reed has been amazing all season, so fun to watch as he steals the ball or blocks shots, makes perfect passes, or sinks threes. We have a really good team when they play both ends of the floor, we could go all- the- way. But Reed has made it a fun watch for me, I selfishly want him to stay 3 more years, but he is so good, I think he will go in a early pick.

@@scottdamon1641 Have you? He's not exactly Matisse or GPII. He's not a plus athlete and he doesn't have plus size and length. That's 70% of being a good defender in the NBA. So he IS 6'3" and he's NOT an elite athlete and while he is strong for his size, he's not Kyle Lowry/Marcus Smart strong... He will get picked on in the NBA playing against guys who are 6'8" 230 but he is also good enough that, to OP's point, he won't be a liability like Jimmer. And a lot like Steph and post LA CP he will still be awesome off ball and a slight positive on defense overall because of it. But you WILL have to protect him against giant wings because physics are undefeated. Unless/until we see high level shot creation he's basically TJ McConnell with shooting or Immanuel Quickley (speaking of on/off analytics darlings). Which is a pretty damn good bench player, fringe starter

He doesnt have to be, bc he has Wagner and Dillingham to do that. But they wouldve lost against UNC if it wasnt for Wagner and Dillingham down the strecth. They got the gritty buckets that Reed has yet to show he can. They all bring something to the team that the other does not. Yall gotta stop with the Reed stuff. I get it. Hometown kid. The NBA is forming at the mouth. I'm not sure who has the first pick?. Do they need a point guard?. He should probably he'll go top 10. He's going to get paid. He's a great player. There's b******* and there's everything else. Even if you pick him at number three or four. Whatever I don't see how you really lose. So you're telling me he's going to get worse?. Highly doubtful. If anything you can get way better and way better and better and better you know. Obviously I think if you can do it to an organization or he can be a fostered. Into the NBA game. Let me tell you something. He is an NBA player. He will be in the NBA. He will play for somebody and he will f****** put up numbers. He's a walking double double. For example. Let's say Phoenix. Let's see. Miami. Those places where he can learn grow be better but also he's going to f*** them up. He's going to come in to the NBA and piss a lot of people off.
