I did the same mod with my 19"John Deere E120. Also, I replaced the wheel bushings with ball bearings. It makes a big difference and should help it last. (I'm at 100hrs). It runs and drives better than new.

Very original, not pinched at all from here.
It may make it "easier", but I find it pretty easy to turn my steering wheel as it is when the mower is moving. It only becomes more difficult if I'm trying to turn the wheel while stationary. I keep the fittings well greased though.

Couldnt do the bearing mod on my cadet as the steering arm is welded to the front crossmember.....bummer

Redneck cost reduction ! Perfect.
My 2017 xt1 cub cadet is welded on there is no way to remove it. very upsetting

Newer stuff is designed to fail. That sucks
There is a certain way the washers go so the needle bearings will ride properly
