I’d still have kept Landy at #2 on the redraft. Essentially, a redraft is drafting based on what you know today. As of today, Landy wears the “C” and was an integral piece of hoisting the cup a couple months ago. Might not be as talented offensively but still plays on the top line of the best team in hockey, puts up points, hits, fights and has been a master motivator for that group as their captain both during the good and bad times. The Avs don’t win a cup with Johnny Hockey.
@Bdiers
Жыл бұрын
@@thenextgreat8652 oh, don't get me wrong, I totally agree with your point. I firmly believe that his leadership on and off the ice are worth their weight in gold, and I wouldn't pick anyone else. I just won't argue if someone else picks Johnny first. For my money, Landy is the ideal net-front power forward. He plays a smothering game at the top of the crease, without having to resort to playing like a rat, and elevates everyone's game around him. He'll definitely go down as one of the top ten (top five even?) to don an Avs sweater.
@thenextgreat8652

@@Bdiers I figured that 😉 Other than that pick, I agree it was a solid redraft. Just think there’s an even stronger case today for Landy to go #2 overall than there was back in 2011. I’d already throw him in the top 5 now that he’s captained a cup winning team.

This video is great at showing how draft position really affects how we look at a player. Of course Kucherov is the best player from this class, however it took him a couple of seasons just to make the nhl. If he actually went #1 there would have been many shouting bust. Several of these players took years to develop into who they became. This is why I am still a believer in players like Kakko, Zadina, etc. They aren’t stars right away like we thought, but with time will be great players when they’re 26, 27, etc
Avs take Landeskog 10 times out of 10 even with hindsight. Hell no to Gaudreau. There's so much more to Landeskog than points, and he even does that well.

Anaheim had a really good draft. Gibson, Karlsson, Manson and Rakell. Especially since their first pick was at 30.
Gaudreau may be an explosive player with a penchant for scoring or whatever, but he's not a winner and he always buckles under pressure. Landeskog is an all-league elite CAPTAIN and it's just too sad that the stats are blind to that aspect. He still goes #2 easily and if you disagree, he will beat up anyone you put in #2 instead.

He has potential to be a 70 point guy yearly but he never sacrifices offence for it. If not for all the bad oilers teams he was on early and the lack of interest in prospect development by the gm’s he would have been a top 3 player in the draft. Even saying that id still put him 5. He has more goals/assists/points in less games than Couturier. He also plays C/W and the PK and PP. He is an all around high level player.

Ottawa finally solving the goaltending question with John Gibson would've been nice.
Would love too see a Top 5 series - Playoff dark horses. best defence. Rookies. Goalkeepers. Goalscorers. Assist. Etc etc insert any relevant category.

4 players the Ducks drafted all being taken before the Ducks first pick....that's some more good Duck drafting and more getting screwed in re-drafts! haha :)
Id personally shuffle around the top 10.... Kucherov, Landeskog, Huberdeau, Gaudreau, Schiefle, Zibanejad, Couturier, Gibson, Nugent Hopkins, Hamilton.
Always happy to be welcomed back
Landeskog was on a 48-goal pace last season, which would've been the highest on the team, yet no one talks about it... Yeah, underrated as hell
awesome video!!!
I feel like the 2011 draft is one where the players keep getting better and better. I don't think any of them really started off their careers superbly, but each season it seems many of these players keep improving. Some of these players had career years this past year, when they turned 29 years old.
These redraft videos are great. Not sure why Couturier is so high, but disagreeing is what makes these redrafts 🔥
Amazing year for Tampa Bay: Kucherov, Palat and Namestnikov who was very good and then he was involved in a trade for JT Miller and Ryan McDonagh. Now he is back with Tampa. Also Lightning could have Binnigton, but they traded that pick and Beukeboom for Eric Brewer and they went to Conference Finals.
I love how I comment stuff and it magically comes true on his channel, you should do a redraft of 1960
The lightning had /have 5 players in shannon's redraft. They were so good at drafting and finding steals.
Being a ducks fan I agree with the Rakell placement. The potential to be a 30+ goal scorer is there Forsure and when he’s on his game he can really take over, but he hasn’t played consistently. I think he’s a guy that really does need an elite passer on his line to be at his best
If you can make the time for a Kuzmenko prospect video I would be over the moon! There's been alot of buzz around him lately and I know so little about him. Big fan Shannon :)
I'd take Mika over RNH. Gibson's tough to rank. Could go higher. What might have been had he played elsewhere the past handful?

Mika is a no brainer ahead of RNH
@patch8376
Жыл бұрын
@@StevenStamkos91 now? Of course. But I think "no brainer" is more than a little dramatic given that RNH was the more productive of the two from 2012-2018, with Mika only outscoring him in 1 of those half dozen seasons. They peaked at different times, and it's a bit apples to oranges, but while saying you prefer one to the other is fine, a Dean Douglas promo cut line is a bit much in my opinion. That's why I merely said I'd "take" one over the other.
I think something cool to look at for these redrafts would be to take the average original draft position for each one and then you could compare which years had better talent later on than others
For anyone curious about teams missing draft picks in this draft: The Blue Jackets' pick was sent to the Flyers as part of the Jeff Carter trade along with Voracek and a 2011 3rd. The Leafs' pick was sent to the Bruins as part of the Phil Kessel trade along with a 2010 first and a 2010 2nd. The Blues' pick was sent to the Avalanche as part of the trade that swapped this pick, Erik Johnson, and Jay McClement for Shattenkirk, Chris Stewart, and a 2nd round pick. The Kings' pick was sent to the Oilers as part the Dustin Penner trade along with a 2012 3rd and Colten Teubert. The Predators' pick was sent to the Senators as part of the Mike Fisher trade along with a conditional pick in 2012. The Ducks traded back from 22 to 30 and 39. The Red Wings traded back from 24 to 35 and 48. The Flyers' pick was sent to the Leafs as part of the Kris Versteeg trade along with a 2011 3rd. The Capitals' pick was sent to the Chicago Blackhawks for Troy Brouwer. The Sharks' pick was sent to the Wild as the part of the trade that swapped Brent Burns and a 2012 2nd to for Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and this pick. The Bruins' pick was sent to the Leafs in the Tomas Kaberle trade along with Joe Colborne and a 2012 2nd. The Leafs then traded up to 22 using this pick and pick 39 (already mentioned above with the Ducks).

I chuckled as you described Brodin "It's not always about the points, it's defense, it's about leadership, you're looking at the overall player." But you have Johnn Gaudreau going second who can only contribute points, no defense, no leadership, no other tangibles or intagibles. I'd bump Johnny down to 4 and Huberdeau and Landeskog up one each.
As a Oilers fan, seeing the Oilers get Nikita Kucherov makes me very happy. In some alternate universe that has happened.
What's pretty interesting here is we draft basically a no one at #23 originally as we (the Pens) get Joe Morrow and then trade him to get a third round pick, which would eventually become the one and only Jake "shake" Guentzel.

I agree in hindsight Binnington should probably have been a 1st round pick, but if you adjust for the teams making the pick, there is no way Buffalo would have taken him. Miller had just won the Vezina in 2010 and was still in his prime, so they were not seeking a goalie in the first round.
