Not at all. This documentary is a corrupt piece of Disney propaganda against a city which helped Minnesota vote against the only U.S. President to co-host the Disneyland opening. I don't agree with Lion King character Rafiki's corruptive "learn from hurtful past propaganda." Much of it corrupts learning based on real history and fuels Disney ambitions. Minnesota had the guts to be the only state to vote against Reagan in 1984 and deny the Disneyland U.S. President a 50 state victory

I still feel red lining exist, so when building a business or anything like that, I don't go to banks. I do it or look for private investment or both. It's a time saver and I have no reason to trust banks to help me.

Yes it still exists in wealth levels. Redlining was a wealth transfer from the government to white families that now own property and businesses. Meanwhile the black american homeownership rate is still down around 40% and small business ownership even lower.

It's a very educational video. Too bad, the people interviewed use too many "big words", which makes the story harder to understand. I have graduate degree and I still had to rewind some segments to understand what was said. Sentences like "...linking spatial desirability with racial occupancy, it's this racialization space idea..." looks good on some Sociology paper, but may put off a lot of people.

It's 2023 and I'm spending half my money on groceries, and the other half on hobbies.

Vincent Cerasoli may i see the information you’re pertaining too, I want to read it but I can’t seem to find where they mention that republicans forced FDR who was a democrat to create a policy that would do so, the thing is though the national housing act and Federal Housing Administration were a part of the new deal that FDR himself had to create during times of the depression. I would really appreciate if you could find me the article or page because I want to see it myself.

I take a bit of issue with this video, not because of the facts laid out with regard to the practices of the housing institutions against non-whites, that is clear enough. I pose a question about other ethnic groups like Jewish people and Asians. Clearly these policies affected them and commentators in the video mentioned even having one or few non-whites were able to redline your area...how is it then that affluency has increased over the decades within the Jewish and Asian communities, or Latinos and Blacks? Poor whites were also affected by this policy so one cannot argue this is White Supremacy if they held down whites of lower social status as well. Yes, this video uncovers unfair business practices upon a population of non-whites in favor of whites in cities across America, but again ethnic groups seemed to have pulled themselves out of poverty and fulfilled the American dream for themselves and their families. This is a claim that racism is institutional in trying to hold down a targeted group of people, and has for some, and hasn't for others. If I was white, I wouldn't feel guilty for policies I had not an ounce of influence in and I wouldn't feel guilty for "benefiting" from these either. 8 or 9 out of 10 people back then were White and by today's census (2010) 7 out of 10 people in this country are White. White privilege is just a tool used to stir up hate, divide Americans into victims and perpetrators and shift the pendulum of power to those who were abused so they may abuse others themselves with policies that will eventually favor them. This is what we call a vicious circle. Also, people need to take responsibility for their circumstances, every American loves a rags to riches story because they exist and there is a path in this country to succeed. This is why it's called the American Dream.

no one suggested that whites should feel guilty and no one is blaming white people. This video is historical in nature and was created to make viewers aware that these policies (which had a clear race element to them) existed in were practiced across America. Just because minorities lived in a redlined area doesn't mean that they were poor...but the policies led to decreased property values for those areas. You seem to misunderstand a lot of what's said in this video...maybe you should try to shed your pre-conceived notions of what you think the video is trying to say and watch it again.

White fragility. This is history. The history of this country was set up to favor some over others and that usually broke down racial lines of exclusion. It did so from the federal government and the development of FHA redlining and loans, down to the schools, down to access to health care. This has always been a segregated society because people want it to be so. Who? The ones who were favored in all the systems and institutions and a blind man can tell you what they look like. This isn't about guilt, it's about acknowledgement and then fixing it so it doesnt continue to happen, but it still does.

All that to say nothing. It's a dream too long denied by legal coercion against Black folks such as the Homestead act, the G.I. Bill, and redlining. The laws were designed from the beginning to deny Black folk from benefitting from it. Latinos are doing no better than Black folks and Jews as well as the Japanese and Europe were paid reparations while folks like you make these asinine statements in a weak attempt to justify and deny the fact that the legal system has never let up in it's press to keep Black folks from ever rising. Which we have done anyway in spite of folks like you trying to justify the wickedness by blaming it on the people on the receiving end of political and legal malice. We rise and you can't stop us.

You missed the point. Poverty is artificially created. White poor people did themselves in by accepting color as the problem and not capitalist policies. If poor whites had joined with poor blacks and other poor people regardless of race, then the poverty issue would be moot. White people buy into white supremacy. It's a sickness. Jews were jews until they were accepted as white by WASPs. Jews were segregated too. And Jews should tell their own story. Asians were segregated too and in cities with higher Asian populations, like in California, Asians were racially discriminated against. Black people are not all poor and not all white people are affluent. You'd do well to read historical facts about how race AND class divide america. The victims are white people who got fed a load of crap and feel mad because the crap doesn't taste like sugar. Poor and working class whites buy into the narrative they should have more than others simply because of skin color. This is the problem.

For some reason, historically, Blacks and whites have been open enemies in this country. By the time all of the "equality" came along, the fix was in and the damage was done. Jews and Asians were not the targets of America's most vitriolic racial schemes and tactics. Blacks were.

...So the redlining was based on the economic value the occupants owned? How is that racist??

No! it was based on the their race. Even if you had the resources to live in the green area, because of your race you were Redlined and not given a loan. Because you could not get a loan your property values dropped.

Sorry, but this one-sided documentary needs less Lion King "learn from the hurtful past" propaganda and better acknowledge of not mainly the negative aspects. Like anywhere, it is okay to report on the negative aspects of history, but in this case, it does not do just that and corrupt the positive aspects which show how Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota's long civil rights history was quite advanced. It also disregards how racial covenants were banned in Minneapolis in 1953 and how the kind of neighborhood residential segregation discussed is actually too common worldwide. One motive is the fact that Minnesota denied Disneyland U.S. President Ronald Reagan a 50 state victory during his America powerhouse-themed 1984 re-election

Those "reports" are not based on actual population numbers, but limited data disregarding the fact that too many Minneapolis residents are living in apartments, even those white, and, even more importantly, how too many millennials, no matter the race, are now living with their parents because of economic hardship.The nonsense "reports" also are likely Bob Iger-financed. Being a top city in the only state to vote against against a President who co-hosted the opening day of Disneyland, Ronald Reagan, is perhaps why Disney networks like ESPN put too much effort into airing ads calling for the end of the current Minneapolis Police Department. "Poll reports" also claimed Minneapolis would abolish the Minneapolis Police Department in the November election. Are you a sore loser over the police ballot failure?

Early NFL African American player Bobby Marshall even played for the Minneapolis Mariners decades before Hubert Humphrey made Minneapolis the first U.S. city to ban job discrimination. This documentary detailing convent discrimination which was common in other cities seems to create a Disney fantasy about Minneapolis.
