This guy is amazing. I’ve seen many practitioners failing at the horse stance. The weight should be pressed down on the midfoot, avoiding the heel.

Good explanation of remaining grounded. It is truly foundational to any martial art.

He's good. I remember a similar drill in Xingyiquan with my teacher. Standing in a 60/40 stance pressing your lead arm outwards. If you were doing it correctly, your arm and structure couldn't be moved if you were doing it wrong you are moved all over. Same concept in taijiquan as he said as well.

So, whole time I was thinking of the methods we use in Tajiquan that come from the structure. The idea of keeping the knees correctly is what I teach students in their first lesson even though I do not teach them any postures. Physical conditioning comes first and like dude said this comes from the stance. Our stance is a Mini/small horse stance and we move our center forward to the front without moving our torso. I learn from any/all styles that I run across not just Taiji, Baqua or hsing I Good video

It's much harder for those people with long femurs to squat with vertical spines and not go knees over toes. The femur length forces the hip back more and shifts the center of mass back, with the main compensation being leaning torso forward more. For someone like me with short femurs, it's almost trivial

Quit trying to make your Horse look like others. Practice by getting as close as you can facing a wall. The objective is to over time get so that your toes are touching the wall as you o down. The wall will stop your knees from going past yor toes. As your strength increases you will improve.

That's fine to individualize it, but it doesn't address or acknowledge a variation in torso position, counter to the vertical stance specified in the video

@@mengmao5033 you can’t change your physical genetics, but you can develop a well rooted stance. Your stance depth it only enhances it. I can root from many stances
