Hey Champos! Here’s a few notes I cut out of the video cause I don’t like to talk too much. 1. Barcelona logo - I changed the Yellow to a more orange, because that particular shape in that color looks a bit like a banana - I recognize that those are the colors of the flag of Catalonia. So In retrospect, I could have just switched which shapes were yellow and which were red, and not had to change any colors : ) 2. Atlanta - I would have liked to keep at least one more color - the blue, the magenta etc, but it feels more powerful without those colors. 3. Paris - I think with the new design we get the idea of the flame, and also have the hair in one shape - we actually don’t lose any “creative” elements and we can reduce the brain-workout people have to do to understand the icon. Also, we strengthen the idea of Marianne by bringing the idea to full fruition, which in my opinion, brings back the Grandeur to the games. Finally I would have liked to do a subtle indication of a head piece which might have been worn by a woman in the 1920’s to further integrate the icon with the Art Deco inspired Typography. 4. Los Angeles - This one was tricky to make simple enough while still capturing the same level of movement from the first design. 5. London - I think it was simplified which moves it away from having some of the negative connotation that is attached it, which is an improvement - but I think the entire idea would have to change to make something really cool and lovable - something that shouts out to the games and the history of the city or the country. Atalanta is an interesting thing, because at that time pins and badges were really popular so the main merchandise were pins. They used gold bases and painted them, so they choose green to help the gold color pop. Google: olympics atlanta 1996 pins Quality content as always! Keep up the good work! ;)

The Atlanta one is weird because the original one is too busy and the recreated one doesn’t flow right. I would’ve kept the 100 and the rings where they were at for aesthetics sake. For color, I either would’ve changed the rings to their original colors or changed the fire and stars to match the Olympic logo colors.

Serif typefaces were popular at that time, same with drop shadow. It was a logo designed according to the 90s trends.

It’s okay. It loses the gold medal symbolism. The original logo is a bit whack but it grew on me. Woman (Marianne), flame and gold medal in a logo is actually kinda cool.

The re-imagined 2024 logo is trying too hard to make a point of showing a face compared to the subtleness of the original, which isn't the point. It's lost the whole Art Deco influence and the double-function of the flame encapsulated in a circle, doubling as a vintage hairstyle.

Paris 2024: Bad Hair Day.

I was hating the Paris design as you drew it, but my jaw literally dropped when you revealed it.

Here's my thing about the older logos: by today's standards they're certainly bad, but they represent ideas in design from the time they come from. The LA logo is SO 80s, Barcelona and Atlanta are super 90s. They don't work now but I bet they worked well then

Yeah, there's little consideration to the fact that these logos were made based on what was popular at the time. 10-20 years from now all of these logo redesigns that Zimri is doing could easily be ripped apart by someone else, because they won't fit with the style of the times.

All I could think of when I looked at the Atlanta logo was McMansion Hell making fun of the 90s' obsession with forest green.

In Atlanta '96, you forgot that the uppermost star represents perfection. That's why it's in the center and in the right orientation.

@@AKagNA The second one just kind of gets rid of some of the main ideas of the paris logos, the color and the round aspect of it represent the gold medal which is an iconic part of the olympics, the flame, well you guest it and the woman is supposed to be Marianne who is basically "if France was a person", I just don't think this redesign captures these ideas as well as the original

@@louxy2961 the golden medal thing sounds too tryhard "in my opinion" since you try to squeeze too much detail in one shape but if it does represent Marienne then hell yes it has more meaning and changing the logo would make it lose that meaning but i bet Zimri didn't know it so i can't blame nor him nor the people who liked it. :)

The Atlanta logo is trying to represent a doric column style from ancient Greek! Without the Olympic logo there it lost its meaning. The rest is horrible but that's why the did the column part like in that manner.

technically it'd be a corinthian logo with the olympics logo at the top. yes this is very nitpicky and insignificant, but i'm still glad to know someone else knows what a doric column is XD

Yeah, my eyes are seeing the rings as a stand in for the floraly bits of a Corinthian column, but I agree, they were part of a capital.

2012 logo was a laughing stock when it was unveiled, I grew to appreciate it as time went on and in hindsight I think it was genius - totally summed up the energy and vibrancy of the games and had a real 'punk' attitude. Everyone though our olympics would be crap but it ended up being one of the best in recent memory. The opening ceremony was one of the best live spectacles I've ever seen on TV

“The Queen” parachuting into the stadium was the best surprise. The lighting of the cauldron and the flames coming together was the most meaningful.

The Paris redesign was alright , but I prefer what they already had honestly . It does a good job of working with negative and positive space while showing the woman and the torch. The redesign is just too detailed and when it shrinks down the detail will be lost. This is a big reason logos have become way more simplified .

Only true design champos carry backpacks while improving Olympic logos

Literally any change to the London 2012 logo is infinitely better than the original. Also, your Paris 2024 logo redesign is fantastic!

The Paris one, at one stage, looked like "Basket Case" in drag lol what a giggle love all your adventures have a great 2022.

Thank you! I was one of the people in your last video requesting a logo redesign, so thanks! I know you were pressed for time, but I would have loved to see you do a more creative take on each one. For example, what sucks about the original London logo is that it has nothing to do with London. It's almost insulting that for a city so rich in culture and iconography, that the logo is literally just the year of the olympics. I wish you had taken something iconic from London (even at the risk of being cliché) and made an entirely new logo rather than sticking to the original idea of writing 2012. But overall I still really enjoyed your redesigns and thankful you listen to your fans. :)

The whole Los Angeles lines idea should have been scrapped.

it would be weird to not have the lines. it could be somehow reimagined in a vapourware or whatnot aesthetic, but the stars being red white and blue combined with it being stars and stripes... it would be a war crime to remove them :)

Pretty sure the lines were very of the time. For some reason back then if you wanted something to look ‘sporty’ you’d add a million lines to it.

The redesigned Paris 2024 logo looks so cool. The ear actually looks like the eye and eyebrow of an upside down face so it looks like the logo has two faces. I don’t know if that was on purpose but I love it!

Great job on the Paris one! Also, lol the LA ones look like the Olympics are being hosted in the basement of an 80s tech startup's office building (though yours does a lot less than the original but still has a tiny bit of that feel).

I laughed when he jumped to the southern accent when talking to Georgia about his changes 😜 I loved gymnastics in ATL, it was the first Olympics I remember watching.

We had a discussion about the London 2012 logo in one of my classes and the tutor made quite an interesting point where he said the design seems to also be inspired by the album covers of the S*x Pistols, they are incredibly iconic to the UK and formed in London in 1975. Apparently they were even invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2012 games but declined the offer. I just find this quite interesting when I look at the logo now but they really could have made it better while incorporating a slight nod to the band. I always thought the shapes were just abstracts of various parts of the UK, I genuinely never saw the 2012 until you pointed it out 😂😂

This kind of video helps me grow as a designer. Thanks.

No improvements, except the first step of taking away the green background for Atlanta.

So you removed the green background in Atlanta's logo. Well there you have just one of the variants of the official logo! The Atlanta 1996 Olympic logo was flexible in it's design so that it didn't require the green background on certain applications. In addition to this, it can be displayed in simple black and white or that gold tone colour they chose. It was one of the few aspects of their Olympics they managed to get right.

The green represents laurel branches worn by winners in ancient times, as well as Atlanta's reputation as the City of Trees.

With the Los Angeles one maybe you could just keep one star but make the stripes one level behind it red? So you still get the red blue combo but a lot simpler! I love your redesigns though there's something soo satisfying about it and I love love the Paris one!!

I agree that the Paris one looks off. It's supposed to represent 3 things : - The olympic flame, obviously - Marianne, female symbol of liberty and democracy - An olympic medal (hence the round shape and the golden color) I guess they messed up trying to mix so many symbols into one logo. Yours doesn't incorporate the medal part, and I think it's one of the many directions we could take from the original by trying to simplify it. Good job Zimri !

The London 2012 logo is in the shape of the UK. That’s why it’s not all on the same level. But I do prefer yours

Hey brother what's up! Love the channel homie. Hey so quick question....when you begin to redesign these are you working with vector images to begin with or did you have to trace these logos at the beginning? I'm having my class do a redesigning assignment inspired by your idea to redesign outdated or poorly designed logos and they asked me if I knew how you drug over the copy of the logo towards the right side of your dartboard and then immediately start editing the anchor points and what not but I can't say that I know how to do that unless its already a vector to begin with. Am I correct or is there a way to create an instant vector of a raster image without having to either trace it or use image trace? Thanks in advance brother!!!

I think the Paris logo was not just randomly incorporating a woman, but rather making a reference to the Bob hairstyle, one of France’s most iconic fashion contributions. That logo is perfection.

i also think just making the lip red on the paris one would’ve helped it a lot

The Olympic rings act as the capitol of the column in the Atlanta logo. They need to be up top for it to make sense architecturally. The original Paris logo was so elegant. :(

Deborah Sussman designed the 1984 Los Angeles logo and was a pioneer in the field. Granted, at the time the logo worked better than it would today. To watch you yank it apart was unsettling at first, but I give you credit for trying to improve it. Would you consider giving credit and saying a brief word or two about the original designer when you do these redesign videos? I love it that you do these, I just think the young talented designers and curious folks watching could benefit from some context.

I’m just guessing but, I think that colours in Barcelona ‘92 are attached to the coastline of Barcelona, and that’s why the arms-line was made yellow and not orange It’s just a theory, idk :-)

ahh for the atlanta logo having the 5 flames makes sense since there's 5 rings in the logo of the Olympics. what you could have done is color the flames with the colors of the original olympic logo, and maybe change the size a bit. other than that yours looks nice
