Also, fun fact about Shyvana's lore. The one you used wasn't the original updated one they were going with. The lore they gave her stated that her egg was about to be stolen by a mage to harvest the runic power of flame from it. But when he touched it, it mutated the infant Shyvana inside before Yvva came back. Shyvana actually had a dragon mother and father and when she was born, Yvva was furious at the sight of the half-breed dragon. Her father, however while reluctant, felt they should still care for it and fled from Yvva's wrath with Shyvana in tow. Eventually they were found by Yvva and when she tried to devour her daughter, Shyvana's father sacrificed himself to save her life. To my knowledge, Riot had changed this lore into the one you know now because the one they updated her with come Kayle/Morgana's rework was "too dark". There's an in-depth discussion regarding her lore on a League reddit site, but I thought I'd let you know

Honestly, I like this better in a lot of ways because it explains the baffling mystery of WHY Shyvana is a mage/human & dragon hybrid because it really is glossed over in the 1 they mentioned. Also, it clearly states what Yvva was feeling which was implied but never outright stated from what I could gather which makes her still very shitty actions @ least make sense on some lvl.

I think another fun champion to re-design would be Malzahar. His current design is dull as all hell, yet the concept of a "Corrupted Void Mage" has a BUNCH of interesting directions it could be taken in.

Honestly, I really just want to see shyv as being heftier, like yall said, top heavy, huge barrel chest, big shoulders, strong arms, large chest, feminine but powerful, and I would so much prefer if her armor was just so much less ugly, tacky and focus more on her actual body, with the armor as accents. She's a walking one man army, and about showing skin, she's a literal dragon, born from nature, if there were ever a character to show skin on, this would be it, show the scars of war, and show her impressive physical stature.

I personally agree with you I am not talking sexualise, but why would a dragon need armor, even if it looks really strong I would go with a mix of bare thought looking scales, and armor protecting her softer areas like chest belly and neck, you dont need armor when your ski is the armor. Another detail I would like is a hole on the back were her wings emerge.

babis void C’mon bruh, just because there was talk about possibly getting Lux betrothed to Jarvan doesn’t mean it’s actually going to happen. Lux and Jarvan have absolutely no chemistry together, while Shyvana’s entire driving motivation is her loyalty/admiration/possible infatuation with Jarvan. IIRC Jarvan even mentions in the comic that he was shown the value of magic by a “magical creature”. Hmm, wonder who that could be referring to. And one of the crucial points of the Lux and Sylas story arc is that just marrying into royalty won’t magically make all Lux’s problems go away. Lux is going to have to stand up for mages herself, not rely on her brother or her husband to get stuff done for her.

Im suprised you guys didn't talk about the origin of her armor. She couldn't have been born with them, so it must be demacian custom made. Instead of just smooth skin and designing the armor, i would have designed her non armor body first. And have the armor compensate/weave around her weird body quirks. (Like spiky shoulders or something) Also personally i would've refrained from a humongous braid and instead have wings that are compressed into a sort of tail/cape would be cool. So that she could be indirectly top heavy, kinda like aatrox. And for her head, i would have made her real horns. So that a helmet wouldn't be necessary, and instead have designed some cool looking hairdo that ends in a braid. I would also consider how the armor would be if it wasnt magically transformed. Maybe she'd be dragging around a mass of expansive chainmail or something. Looking more like a robe in her human form and protecting her vitals as a dragon.

And they also pretty much skipped the fact that mages and any magic of sorts are discriminated in Demacia, this is related more on her lore, but I just felt unease when they said the lore did nothing for her EXCEPT for establishing she has purple skin, a literal civil war broke out and the current King died because of that very same issue, would've helped them design things if they looked into the world she belongs in more Also Demacian armor would hinder her powers because if it's Demacian, it'd have been made of Petricite, so its better to leave her with Dragon bone/scale armor And she's actually not a "tank" all her scalings are AP, if she's a tank, her scalings would include some form of Armor, MR, or health, but no, she's a "juggernaut" simply because of her above average health, which is not enough to call her that, because of that health increase she CAN be played as a tank, but because of her scalings, it's more effective to play her for damage instead

In the lore its sometimes explained, but not very directly, but that she became a half-dragon because of the time spent with the wizard, since dragons are magical by nature, when she hatched, she'd spent a lot of her recent time with the wizard, and thus magic changed her into being more human-like, tho she didnt spent so much time as to completely lose her dragon inheritance, still being capable of using fire and shapeshifting back into her draconic form Its not explicitly stated that it happened, but its implied, even if slightly, and so its what a lot of people have interpreted it as

A shield totally misrepresents her playstyle and design intent, though. It's a pretty bad weapon choice for her. The gauntlets make a lot more sense for her from all those perspectives.

Calling it a gauntlet is generous considering the size and shape of that thing. Using that as a piercing or slashing weapon is much less combat sensible than a pair of smaller gauntlets. And if it's used primarily as a blunt weapon, then it is absolutely a shield.

Be glad, she may be getting a rework soon, she was one of five champs getting a rework. Three out of five have gotten reworks, last two is nocturne and shyvanna

Noc received a VFX (I think was that) and honestly he has been decent I think in this current state (the change in the time of the passive and etc) so I don't know if he is up for a rework, or if he will be in a near future.

15:48 this one is my absolute favourite, it's powerful, it's elegant, majestic and she's chubby with thick lips, beautiful in an unconventional way, as a main Shyvanna I would love her to look like that It has also a "mage" feel with the cape if you want to build her ap, but it's bulky enough to look like a bruiser it would make a lot of sense visually

I hate LeBlanc's design. It's not super bad, but personally, I would want the design team to go with something else. Her costume does fit her Noxian aesthetic, but then the headdress and the weird slits on the sides give me Shuriman vibes. I'd be thrilled if Subjectively did her next for this LoL champions redesign series.

12:32 Dude you just described an ultimate ability in Elder Scrolls Online - the dragon knight class has a Dragon Leap where they sprout wings, leap across the battlefield and slam down, knocking down and stunning all enemies within melee range. It is the coolest power trip, especially in PvP.

I don't really feel this design, it took me a while to figure out why but I think its because it's too much like the original. The dragon form still looks kinda skinny and less bulky than her human form, she doesn't look any more demacian and the horn on the helmet gets my brain to think of a rhino more than a dragon. It's a more fearsome and stronger version of shiv with some cool glowing hands, which is a better design for sure, but it doesn't really fix the issues I have with the original. That said, holy hell are you all getting good on executing these designs. The sketches, the coloring and the splash look amazing! Looking forward to whatever you're cooking up next :D

@@diegosaez4885 Bulky doesn't equal better necessarily either, with y'all, my thing is, I feel as if you would do something similar with the Volibear rework. Perhaps the new Shyvana looks more demancian, wearing demancian armor etc. BUT Riot also releases a skin similar to Thousand-Pierced that features Shyvana in her old colour scheme and classically inspired armour.

​@@LegacyHeroGaming if, for example, was a rugged demacian armor or even a Petricite armor, that either case she tribalized with her mother's remain (because limiting it to only her skull seems a waste of a cool idea) would be an improvement. Also, would advocate to remove the giant braid for being impractical combat-wise while recycling the symbolic tail idea somehow, and would make her have more draconic features in her human form that also shaped her armor's design (e.g.: that central horn in her helmet could've easily be hers, proturing from her forehead with a hole in the piece.) Finally, the dragon could benefit from keeping a Wyvern-like design as with the original to distinguish it from the traditional-like design used for the rest of the terrestial Dragons both in-game and in-lore, as this redesign made it look as an Elder Dragon with a color pallete switch. I'm not against the idea of making her bulkier, but frankly that's all this redesign got up to making Shyvanna look different, and that ain't much. And Volibear was a special case: The Thousand-Pierced skin is based on an alternate conceptuation of Volibear that was released for how popular it was and the importance it has lore-wise. Otherwise Riot has stated that they don't release Traditional skins (reflecting the champion's original design) anymore.

It seems like her dragon form is less bulky than her human form just because they are next to each other and with the same dimensioms, but if you make her dragon form in its true dimension, you can see that her arms and legs are really bulky. Also remember that a dragon cannot be too bulky or it cannot fly

We already have a buff lady and her name is Ilaoi. They are not coward, if they changed her, they just could alienate the players that player more for her looks than gameplay. I believe that if you want more buff ladies is better to design a new one than cahnge an old one.

Making her buff as shit wouldn't fit her character. She is built for speed not strength. She is supposed to chase things down and wrip and tear. She is not supposed to squish people with her massive arms like Illaoi. She is more like a riven.

This is just greatness, i love how her design looks like and Cole did such a good job taking everyone effort to make a perfect login screen

i think you and all of the artists involved did an awesome job in this redesign, it fits everything in Shyvana's lore and in game ideas, good job.

Great to see the crew back! Personally I love the wing-cloak a lot. It not only feeds into the theme of dragon-like features in her human form but also does some great storytelling. By having a mage cloak it shows her favouring her stepfather's practise while rejecting her draconic heritage. But that's just my thoughts, the final design still looks amazing!

100 percent feels. But it doesn't make sense to give a character a new skin and then have to completely redesign it for the VGU a year later. Hopefully she gets a legendary dragonmamcer skin on VGU to compensate.

Honestly, I feel the shield entirely misses the point. Gauntlets can be primarily defensive, yes, but that's not the point of them on Shyvana. Hers are absolutely to be used as primarily weapons, and particularly ones that are meant to pierce and slash, as opposed to what kinds of more blunt attacks you would get out of a shield. She absolutely is not a tank - she's a duelist that only builds health because her kit kinda needs it. Her only defensive ability is her passive, which you can go entire games without stacking, and any variant builds for her only build her with more offence than anything. And that's consistent with her design, too - she doesn't need a shield, she's a dragon, her scales are armor enough for her. Being able to walk through flames unscathed is exactly the kind of aesthetic this girl goes for. I like her being a lot more buff and less, twiggish, I guess, but I would hate to see her with a shield, especially considering the gameplay implications that could bring.

Tank Shyv doesn't exist Bruiser Shyv is what you're referring to, and yes, she can in fact do that. However, she would be hard pressed to auto attack nearly enough times to do so with some thick, hapless shield.

Wow I have never been into league but your description of this character and the new design.. definitely wife material dang. The animation at the end was freaking awesome. Also I'm glad we got to see an old friend but I understand why people might have moved away from this channel. I can't imagine youtube is paying very well for this kind of content and the sheer amount of work on display for this video would easily been compensated in the thousands if Riot had employed you folks to do this redesign.

Okay, new dark thought I had in regard to this: The mother's skull as a shield could be symbolic. Because now only in death, she is doing what a mother should: protect her child.

Some of my criticisms in this redesign: -That length of hair is suicide in combat. Enemies would be pulling and tugging on that thing like she's a dog on a leash -Due to her lore, I doubt she's proud of her heritage and hence she's likely to cover her skin. So I disagree with their sentiment in showing more of her skin. A light leather armor or light metal plating covering most of her vital points (neck, torso, head, legs) would be the ideal gear for her. -Again, due to her lore. She's basically a dragon who just has a human form. She needs the same amount of nourishment as a dragon would, and since she's living most of her life as a human, a skinny build focusing on agility and speed would make more sense than bulking her up. Also, I doubt jarvan lets her lose to hunt on her own, so she probably gets meals and a place to live. With her species, the amount of food humans eat would probably not be enough for her to even bulk up in the first place. -She's raised by a mage so she probably focused on using magic more than hand-to-hand combat anyway. So a bulkier build makes even less sense. If I had to guess, she uses a mix of close range quick hits and pulls back to cast fire spells. Like a hit and run fighting style. -Her dragon form should not be as bulky as the other dragons. This is to emphasize that she uses her strong magic power more than pure muscle or brawn. Design wise, it makes sense for her to not be a slow lumbering behemoth, but more of a quick agile dragon who bombards enemies with fire from afar. -Also, remember that dragons live for thousands of years, so she's basically what you'd consider a child in dragon years, further implying that she shouldn't be as built as the other fully grown dragons. -Lastly, make her four legged plus wings, since it doesn't make sense to turn her into a wyvern. In summary. I'd keep her slender design, maybe tone down the bust and thighs since people think she's oversexualized. Make her clothing/armor cover more, probably implore some sort of helmet or cloak to cover her face, too, but make it so it's made out of light material like leather or light metal. A small and slender dragon form to emphasize both her dragon age and her specialized use of magic more than her use of muscle. And lastly give her four legs and wings, since she shouldn't change much from her mother's biology. But yeah, I respect the path they took with this one, even though I disagree with some of the decisions they made. But keep in mind, this is just my take on it and is purely my opinion. Everyone is free to have their own take with a redesign like this.

@Sebastian Rivera yeah, those were my initial thoughts on her as well. She was intentionally made slim to look the weak/underdog type. It fits well with her backstory, too. Taken from her mother, adoptive father killed by own mother, forced to kill her own blood, and now living in a society where she doesn't belong. That's why I think it'll add more to her character if she has some kind of cloak or hood to cover some of her face so it looks like she's meek and weak willed. Then she ults and bam, a majestic dragon comes out and burns every enemy down on sight. So yeah, I don't really dig the whole bulky shyv thing. Plus it fits his dynamic with j4 since she's basically j4's adoptive little sister (considering how "young" she is in dragon years).

@@kanseidorifto5367 That's the thing though, sex sells, it's a proven point through out history. And it's not even exclusive to just females (although I agree it's more prevalent to them). Look at the champion roster and realize how many good-looking, six-pack carrying dudes there are. Kayn, jayce, sett, leesin, and ezreal alone are examples enough and those were just off the top of my head. Heck, in leesin's case, he's basically in the nude with his outfit and I don't see anyone complaining. But since riot have demonstrated that they fold easily, case in point graves' cigar, I think it'll be fine to tweak some of the girls' features just to avoid people whining. That's why I said maybe reduce some of those features so riot can get away with releasing attractive/good-looking female champions. But me personally, I couldn't care less. Just keep shyv slim, both in human and dragon form, and I don't care how big they'll make her busts look. Just don't go overboard since it'll look so unnatural to have a huge chest on someone that's slim/slender.

@Sebastian Rivera I think Riot will pull it off, just look at volibear. Not only does he look cool, he's actually meta even at worlds. Just put the right people on it, and I doubt they'll mess up with shyv's rework. Plus, they might even add more to her lore which is more than welcome tbh. I honestly have no qualms with how covered the female characters are. As long as they look interesting and not off-putting to play as. Example, udyr looks so outdated, unless you're using his spirit guard skin. His animations aside, just the way he looks seems so out of place in today's league. That's what I meant by "off-putting to play". So far, every rework riot has put out is pretty spot on, so we can rest assured I think.

We kinda should separate lore and gameplay. Lorewise, you are absolutely right. Gamewise, she's more like a tank/diver/bruiser (i know AP it's the meta rn, but all of her kit goes to waste), hence the bulkier desing.

Hell yeah! I love these videos and I don’t even play league lol

Overall a pretty good VGU, I just had a couple issues. 1) The headdress feels wrong to me. I don't like the rhino horn in front, and I think that having a headdress closer to the design of the headdress now would've been better. 2) Her mouth in the splash art feels wrong. I can't explain further, but it just... doesn't feel quite right to me. 3) I think the wings should connect to her sides or back in dragon form, they still don't look like she could actually use them to fly. Aside from those 3, I absolutely love the look. She looks more like a fighter/tank and the outfit will look good in league's top-down perspective. I don't have any other specific things I loved, but I still love this VGU.

Awesome! Your dragon design looks somewhat like a bat. :D The human designs are cool, too! I'd go for a more monstrous direction, mutant like. Not sure if that'd fit the lore. I feel like the other champ redesigns were stronger though. She must be tough to handle. :D 16:00 Okay that's tight! Ah, that stuff before was improved later, looked great like that! The splash is nice, too! Although I think her teeth shouldn't be segmented individually like that in human form, makes it look off. For "arm cannon" designs, I'd look to Samus from Metroid. She's my fave!

That looks absolutely fantastic! I would kind of like to see the wings on the back and have arms and legs, just as the elementals drakes. I think her kit also needs some updates but for the visual stuff, I really like what you guys did with her.

As a Shyvana main, I agree that her dragon form needs more "body". Her human self, however, may need a bit more, but not that much. Come on. You turned her two lifts away from an Illaoi.

I'm in the same boat as you man. Her dragon forms bulk ended up being bout right. But her human form was way over the top. She is supposed to chase after her foes and leap over ravines. With this design it's more like she stomps after them much like Illaoi. A build closer to a more lean Riven would suit better.

I agree somewhat. Yes she is bulky, but she is a dragon. On another note, her humanoid form should probably show a bit more muscle, not a lot, but some, as she is a literal dragon. I think they got the dragon form spit on, but something did feel a bit off with the humanoid

You guys are doing riots job for them, whatever visual update she gets is gonna just be made worse by how much better you are.

I'm surprised how literally nobody has mentioned that eye-covering helmet with side horns and a huge braid at the back is already a Lissandra's thing

I actually like that Shyvana’s human form is more lithe and slender but still obviously muscular, it gives her a more supernatural quality when considering how strong she can be. Making her too bulky feels wrong. But the dragon form here is straight up awesome.

wow, great work with this! i'm actually a big fan of how close this is to her current design - you're right about shyvana just being a skinny scrap of untapped potential in her current form, and making changes that are largely to silhouette like this is a great way to go for her. that being said, i DO love some of the new elements you introduced. the nose-spike is great, but i especially love her firey, almost magma-like right arm. my only real feedback is that i think you should bring that arm into her dragon form more. although, maybe it should be her lower jaw that has that firey appearance? after all, in her dragon form she's spitting fireballs rather than chucking them. all in all - great work! excited to have some of the old cast back, too.

Really like the braid/tail amalgamation. Maybe it could be a more prominent feature of her design and be the source of her magic- fire spewing out from it. I think that would set her design apart as even more unique and could work as an motif for her true dragon nature. Love the longer more in-depth video

FINALLY, another bulky Women! I love her proportions, the design is awesome, if i would have a "complain" would also include her oficial league design: i never understand how they let her inside demacia, she dosent look human, i know the prince is by her side but damn, is demacia! And the new design look even less human, but been fair is also less boring. I also like the decision of she having only one big gauntlet in one arm and not two. The new animated splash art are a incredible addition, is awesome having you here Cole.

I think she was let in only because the prince was by her side, he likely vouched for her and defended her. also this happened before the sylis stuff, so they were not as bad at the time. but I not going to completely deny your point, in the current cannon everyone would be really suspicious of her.

This is so cool, its so awesome looking and I adore everything about it you all did an amazing job. I'd love to see a Janna redesign because my poor girl not only has a terrible boring design but her new lore kinda sucks too :(. I cannot wait to see what yall do next!!!
