Redemption with charity founder Scott Harrison | A Bit of Optimism Podcast

The thrills of pleasure-seeking don’t last long before we need even more. And when the excitement isn’t enough, what is?
Scott Harrison’s life as an elite nightclub promoter was an unending cycle of drinking, drugs, models, and fast cars. After ten years, his vices caught up with him, and a health scare forced him to reflect on his life.
Scott felt decadent, wasteful, and morally bankrupt. He decided to completely reverse course. Scott spent the next 2 years in West Africa on board a nonprofit hospital ship, where he saw a level of human suffering that led him to his true calling.
Today, solving the global water crisis is Scott’s life’s work, and he’s built one of the most trusted nonprofits in the world to do just that. His organization charity: water has raised over $750 million, helping more than 17.4 million people access clean drinking water.
Scott shares with me the painful road that led to his transformation and why living a life of service can be a path toward redemption.
This…is A Bit of Optimism.

Thank you Simon and Scott for this podcast. As a tradesman I ask myself how can I help. Your so right giving of myself to help others is so fullfilling.

Thank you Simon and Scott for this impactful and inspiring talk. Getting to the root problem and taking action is brilliant. Overcoming people’s distrust of non-profit operating cost “skimming” was a game changer. I love the emotional storytelling, it shot me through the heart. Please keep up the important work.

Simon, this is the best, most inspiring video ever. Why haven't a million people seen it? I will promote it to my followers. I have contributed to Charity Water for a few years and am absolutely blown away by Scott's work. Looking forward to more inspiring interviews.

I have donated to charity water in the past. I do not have taxable income and wish to donate to the "Overhead" account. My VA Disability and Social Security Retirement benefits provide significant resources. Meanwhile, the VA Supportive Services for Veterans and Families (SSVF) program is paying half of my apartment rent for two years. I am the Founder Emeritus of Homeless Advocacy for All, with the intent to incorporate on June 25, 2024. We aim for 20 Board Members and 10 advisors at launch, setting up a rotation plan for board members, while training new ones. Other individuals can only devote less time.

Again, @Simon Sinek, loved it, loved it...Unfortunately the last connection with Spotify is not the best one. As not many knows Spotify has also joined the group of companies fo fire (1,700 people) for the cause of less overhead and higher profits...So, please yes to charity water, no to Spotify praising 🤜

Hello Simon, Hello Scott, we all have to question our values, and we'll never have quite enough of you both. How can I reach you and volunteer my life for such great causes.

Simon, I've been a fan of yours for a long time until the 30-minute marker in this video. As an 18-year nonprofit professional, your statements are deeply offensive. Shame on you for using generalities, where a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Overhead is an outdated term and the 100% model is a practice perpetuated by good organizations (like Charity Water, Robin Hood, etc.) which has ruined the nonprofit sector by establishing unrealistic expectations. You can do better than this.
