Seeing Knuckles prologue really got me emotional, I really wasn't ready to see such a rich story as he finally returned to his original characterization. I hope this can continue.

I love the thought that actually went into the Chao. It's not just normal baby chao, but specifically adult flying type Chao as well. Because of course they are, they live in a floating ruin for a garden so they need to be! And with helping one of the babies, and one of the adults being a hero type too, Knuckles clearly is fond and visits them often. 😊

With Ian Flynn as lead writer, Can you imagine how badass Kirk Thorton would sound as Shadow after years of sounding like a Dollar Store Batman?

I lost it during the fight scene it was just amazing I nearly shed a tear ❤️🥹this whole thing was just so beautiful!! his characterisation was just perfect him being a badass, but still keeping those little awkward exchanges like how he was with the chao when the rubble fell on its head which has always been such an endearing part of knuckles character to me how he’s a strong badass stoic warrior but social situations and interactions he’s not the best with due to his isolation. So hope this is the beginning of amazing things for knuckles as a character finally being redeemed after so long !

Dear SEGA, Can we please get a series in this style. CGI is fine but the worlds often feel empty and lifeless, especially when you arent looking to produce a movie like production. Hand drawn animation works amazingly good when it comes to Sonic The Hedgehog. This is some of the best hand drawn animation since Sonic CD.

This year has been a phenomenal time to be a Knuckles fan he's always been my favourite Sonic character since I was young and I've hated what he's been turned into over the last 10+ years with the 2nd movie was incredible enough but the actual games are fixing his character which is something I never thought would happen I'm over the moon. I now only yearn for the day he's actually playable in the modern games again ^__^

2022 has been such an amazing year to be a Knuckles fan 😊. So much material, merch, and most importantly: good characterization.

I'm nervous because I remember how they handled the Shadow DLC in Forces, with Shadow just basically being little more than a reskin of Sonic, a plot that pretty much contradicts what came in the main game, and an infamous cutscene that has gained a reputation for being made into annoying memes and another excuse for haters and detractors to say "See, this is why Sonic games shouldn't have stories! This is why Sonic's lame-o friends shouldn't be playable! Cos they always suck!" On the other hand, I'm excited since the way that the characters are dealt with in Frontiers is everything that I've wanted from these characters since 06!

I thought the dream was dead. Watching all your videos on the characters, I was just convinced pontaff we’re gonna stay. But finally, finallyyyyyyyyy I can take a breath of relief even if it’s a small one. This was the knuckles I saw at 5 years old, his characterization and just talking about stuff and the way he talked about stuff was just perfect. I just can’t believe we might finally be out of the meta era tunnel, been waiting for this day since I was 11 when colors came out ngl

The relief is real! I totally feel you!

Everything about both the prologue comic and the prologue animation just showed how much care went into explaining how specific characters got to the Starfall Islands and why they're there. It's not like previous titles where we have each character just there for the sake of being there. Knuckles exploring Angel Island and finding new pathways to and from specific areas on Angel Island as well as relics of both ancient Echidna tribes other than the Knuckles clan and unknown tribes that precede recorded history really makes me happy. It also showed us a side of Knuckles that was never really seen in the games, when exploring he helps any nearby Chaos by feeding them and also helping them get something they want. Of course the fight scene was the best part. The way Knuckles said "Your funeral" gave me chills and seeing him use his other abilities to attack the goons thrown his way was amazing! But the cherry on top was the music throughout the whole animation. Just... beautiful.

I feel like this is the best representation of Knuckles since Sonic 3 and Knuckles. So much attention and care went into this.

What a time to be in, where Knuckles is finally cool again! Loved this analysis!

Thinking about Knuckles makes me wish life was like this a lot. If only there were some or even many more times Knuckles was a playable character in 3D Sonic games like in the old, but nostalgic ones. Knuckles was playable in some games like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and even Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). So even though he is not the leader of the main characters and mascot of the series, I wish Knuckles was in a lot more great action like how Sonic has been.

When I saw the prologue I was so excited like almost jumping around lol Knuckles, the animation, the music is just so great.🎉

Great analysis that mirrors my feelings. Fantastic short. Everything is really coming up Knuckles at the minute and long may it continue!

After giving up on Forces, and being totally out of the loop(-de-loop) with 'new' Sonic stuff post-2017, I didn't expect this short to be as good as it was!

Its so nice to see the real Knuckles back! Also, while I could be wrong, it seems to be Tikal and Chaos (who might be that weird water puddle that ripples on its own when Tikal flies over it) are back too.

This Knuckles short is awesome!

My kids and I had a blast watching that short! My wife, who isn't at all a Sonic fan, thought it was incredible! If the game is as good as this was, we are in for a spectacular time!

I love that they gave him a spin dash sort of thing like in the classics and Sonic Adventure (and Advance). And NOBODY is talking about those few frames of animation.

could not agree more on your openions regrding knuckles , the character surely got a wonderful amount of spot light in this animation that truly shows a lot of what knuckles is as a character , also i once told you about a you tube channel named "pariah 695 " i wonder if you watched his video "the story of shadow the hedgehog " , if you did not , then please , you truly nedd to see this very VERY well done anlysis of video that will give much more insight on shadow'character that you may not had heard before , just an advice from me , don't forget to watch it

With this video releasing before Frontiers, I love how retroactively the Chao's appearance in this short is plot relevant, with Frontiers showing us the origin of not just the Chaos Emeralds, but also the Chao and Chaos, in the Ancients. Even eons later, the descendants of the Ancients still help watch over the planet by watching over the Master Emerald. I know that's not the point of this video but I wanted to bring that up since it's neat

Having a free roam game of Knuckles just exploring the island would be awesome, the enemies could be those robots from Frontiers sent from the future(is Frontiers in the future? Another timeline? No clue)

First Sonic movie 2, now Frontiers, I'm so glad Knuckles gets to be cool again. He's always been one of my favorite characters when he's done right

Chao taking over Sky Sanctuary feels right. We haven't seen them for decades but seeing them in sky Sanctuary seems appropriate. If i were to look for them its a good place to start. The name is even appropriate. Its now a sanctuary for the Chao. Not sure if knuckles would approve of relocating chao to a chao garden

I love the short with great animation and knuckles looks amazing plus his new voice actor was great for him so I hope to see a game review of sonic frontiers plus knuckles and the chao are favorite characters with the chao being so cute acecardgaming!

Nobutoshi Canna killed it in the animation, and like Jun'ichi for for Sonic and Taeko for Amy, proves why he is the old master, with 24 years of experience under his belt. While the animated short was cool, I can 't help but think it'll no doubt be much it was with like with Amy and Tails in that prologue comic. Here is your moment to shine Knuckles and back to the bench for the game itself. When showing off how cool and strong and Knuckles is in this short why aren't they letting us play as him - or Amy and Tails - once we free them from their cages. Instead its Sonic is the only character who can actually do anything, again 🙄 An idea I had, given its all about collecting those memory tokens, perhaps if Sonic gathered enough to the relative character they could manifest themselves over Sonic - what with his arm going all glitchy - meaning that we'd be able to play as the other characters with their own moveset. As if Sonic's friends were following by his side, as AI ghosts, they'd want to try and help him in whatever they could, and that could be one way of doing it. Is this like some Majoria's Mask type thing, and does my recent play through of it have anything to do with it? Probably, but it'd be one way of actually letting Sonic's friends do something again for the first time in sixteen years.

It's so refreshing to see one of my favourite Sonic characters being done justice! Seriously Sega, I hope you've finally learnt to stop trying to appease people with such a negative attitude towards this franchise! This "Sonic's stinky friends" attitude has gone on for way too long! If people don't like these characters, then the answer isn't to shove them to the sidelines or flanderize them beyond recognition! The right thing to do is to ignore the people who spew this crap! These kinds of people have no right to ultimately dictate what can and can't be in a Sonic game!

I really hope putting faith in Sega once again isn't gonna end badly, so far, Knuckles is getting back into his character. All I can hope for now is that they continue their winning streak and do Shadow justice as well. (For both the 3rd movie and upcoming games).

Knuckle needs a game, yesterday. This short is proof that people love & have a deep interest in Knuckles & his lore. Why not make a game exploring that with Knuckles front & center?

Me too knuckles been my favorite for a long time deserved his respect and hugs and cuddle and cookies and grape he is awesome and badass and it is not his fault he been trick by eggman since he been on angel Island for a long time with nobody with him no friends no family no one just guardian the master emerald or I wish people can stop criticize call him stupid and dumb and native he isn't any of that he is smart as well. And beside it is the writers fault who made him dumb and the butt of the joke in the first place they should made his characteristics better but no I am happy he getting the respect and redemption he deserves and I am happy they are still knuckles fans out th3y the love they red echidna that we know in love in our hearts. I wish to see more ships from knuckles and maybe a knuckles harem store's in the future

Knuckles is awesome and badass

Gotta admit, this portrayal of Knux is certainly a good indicator. And the recently "leaked" 40 minutes of gameplay looks intriguing as well (more Knux development there too that _does_ line up with this animation for one). I would probably have actual hype by now if Forces hadn't made me so cynical. Instead I'm feeling more... desperate. Not sure how well I could take the series truly dying in the way it's now one bad game away from.

I don’t believe we will get much screen time with him nor with tails or amy but it is nice seeing knuckles back to his old self again and not the comedy guy who can’t even tell a good joke But anyway that all probably sounded confusing and I’m really sorry if it did cause I am a really confusing person. I haven’t read all of the IDW stories yet, but from the Neo Metal Arc I actually thought his take in Sonic was pretty good. He avoided leading the resistance at all costs, and mainly wanted to just keep running and beating Badniks! Maybe the stuff you’re talking about is in another arc so I’ll keep an eye out for it! Wouldn’t call it a redemption. It’s legit a restarting of his character. The only thing the game does well with Knuckles is his banter with Sonic. Other than that, we’re treading over what he’s already learned in Adventure

If a person or character goes off track and becomes terrible, what else would you call it when they turn things around and return to their previous best? Redemption. While what you said is true about retreading his Adventure arc, it’s important to recalibrate and re-establish a characters important lore and traits before growing them. Especially after such a long time of him just being a clown. How they move forward with him from here will be the interesting part.
