In some places, Catholic schools are the only choices parents have if they want their children to receive a real education. Louisville comes to mind. The public schools are different grades of awful, and everyone with the means tries to get their kids into the Parochial system. The teachers unions have more political power than anyone else in Jefferson County and they absolutely refuse to have the public schools graded and reformed in any way.

A lot of people ended up with a degree in Education because the first major they tried was just too hard for them. The average teacher is probably a little smarter than the average schmuck; they are NOT smarter than the average college graduate.

My children have always attended Catholic schools K thorough 12 and it was a huge financial sacrifice, but well worth it. We always held out hope that we would have access to our tax dollars through school choice programs, but I am glad it’s finally happening in some areas. You will not regret it. 🙏♥️

It’s also a much lower cost, considering what the state spends on just one pubic school student. My children were also so well prepared for college, as they didn’t have to deal with all of the political agendas the public schools push. That would be the real problem, imo.

As long as there is NO government involvement. That’s my concern. Strings attached. Plus some may raise tuition and still price people out. I’m still for it. We’ll miss it as my last daughter is a senior. Worked A full time and a part time job to pay tuition. It’s worth it and we’re not Catholic.

I think households with children in private schools should be granted exemption from their property's portion of local school taxes, or be eligible to file for diversion of their portion to the school their kid is actually in. It's not fair that parents should have to pay twice for one education, especially when they think/know the one they're forced to pay for is lesser than alternatives or unsatisfactory to the parent/tax payer. My brother has all 5 of his kids in private school for precisely that reason. For those of without children in any local school, they are not paying twice for one education, they are paying once for the overall good that a community of education children provides. And it is for that reason that taxpayers, with or without children in school, have every right to criticize the quality of the "service" local public schools provide. I don't need to have kids to argue the facts on whether a particular curriculum is good or bad for the community, especially when it comes to race-based ideologies like CRT, identity-based exemptions and promotions, and sexuality-based programs.

You know things are different when more and more people decide that Catholic schools are better than public ones. Wow.

My brothers and I went to Catholic school in the mid 1050s and early 1969s. We had homework in first grade, we learned cursive in second grade. Classes were large---40 to 45 students in a class, no aides, no parents---just nuns. Discipline began right in kindergarten through eigth grade. Time management, responsibility, honesty, integrity, and respect were the cornerstones of parochial school education. Catechism and spelling saw us lined up on Mondays with the nun firing questions and word lists at us to see if we studied over the weekend. When we were leaving eighth grade, the local school system had us tested to see if we'd "fit in academically" in the high school. Most of us scored two to three grades ahead of our public school peers in Enlgish, reading, seience, social studies, and math. My parents were given the option of having me go into junior level Enlgish or beginning in freshman English. They chose to have me begin with the other students and not jump ahead. Catholic school taught us life skills, in addition to academics. Many of my classmates are now gone, but our class saw teachers, professors, vets, career military, nurses, economists, accountants, public relations specialists, doctors, engineers, and lawyers as members of society. My sons went to parochial school, and the financial sacrifice was well worth it.

Your lucky I am catholic but attended public school. It is what it is but I just live catholic school.

My family are not Catholic but my cousin sends her two children to our local Catholic school, and her sister…my other cousin…homeschools her son. If I had children there’s no way I’d send mine to public school, even though all of my family went to public schools. The government ran schools are just not doing their job anymore.

I don’t have children yet, but I will not put them in public schools. I went to a Catholic school for a while and loved it, while learning a lot.

Sending my son to Catholic school was one of the best decisions I have made as a father. As a devout Catholic his faith has excelled already at the age of 5! He can do basic Math and has a beautiful and respectful relationship with all the kids there.

Public schools have alot of policies that scare average parents, particularly those relating to transgenderism and parental concent. My kids are grown but I'd have a problem with a school keeping what's going on with my minor child from me. The government seems to think it has more authority in children's lives then parents do. I don't think that the Catholic Curch is at that point and it's hard to imagen it would go that route.

those catholic schools will have to abide by the requirements attached to the federal funding and this includes the title ix rules. what the government funds it runs.

I attended a public school through sixth grade. My Mom sent me to a Catholic middle school; for high school she let me choose. I chose Catholic high school, and won a full scholarship to a private university for a bachelor of science degree.

My wife and I had to decide a few years back whether we wanted to enroll our child in Catholic school, as we are both Catholic. Our hesitation was the cost and his special needs. Her parents were able to help with the tuition costs and the school we were sending him to claimed they could meet his needs. So far for 3 years it has worked out just fine. Honestly, at first my wife and I disagreed a bit and she was leaning a bit toward public school. But after reading and hearing about all this junk that goes on in public schools, I was determined to do everything possible to avoid that for him. I am glad we made the decision we did. Hopefully attendence keeps increases in Catholic schools and other private schools that steer clear from radical left wing ideologies. Home schooling is a good option too if it is doable. I know several people who do that.

catholic schools are not as expensive as other "private" schools or other Christian schools unless you are not catholic.. so it's only the parents who are not catholic who want a discount.. catholic parents will make the "sacrifice" to send their children for the superior general education as well as the catholic faith teachings that are throughout the entire experience

It's a degree better academically. However, they don't do well teaching Catholicism.

My husband and I, two devout Catholics would never send our children to the parish school mainly because of the droves of non catholic students and proclivity of lay teachers. Most catholic schools are only so in name. I went to the parish while school was in session to light vigil candles and the students were gyrating on the altar singing Beatles songs. Sloppy lay teachers egging them on. The days of true catholic schools are gone. Soon the funding will dry up as well.....

Here in Florida school choice is a great thing. I have been homeschooling for 20 years. When my oldest child started kindergarten our local public school was over the building capacity set by the fire code. I chose not to force my child into that environment. School choice is a win win scenario in states where school capacity is beyond full. For most of my time as a homeschool mom we sacrificed to afford what we needed for our schooling as a priority. Now we get a school choice scholarship that pays for many things. My youngest child is benefiting from that. As for my oldest he graduated from college Summa Cum Laude and had an amazing job offer before he even graduated. Homeschooling has been the most amazing journey ever for my family!

Are they using Montessori teaching in those schools like they do in Sweden? Did you know that catholics were illegal in Sweden 70 years ago. They weren't allowed to work in hostpitals, as teachers or politicians. Today unfortunetely they are legal and not everyone agree with that.

I put my son in Catholic school since Pre-K and I couldn't be more happy. Public schools are a freaking disaster now.

My prayers are with the children of our nation. I advocate for abolishing the Department of Education, empowering parents with vouchers, and ensuring genuine choice for their children's education.

I would love to see more Christian schools be able to accommodate students with IEPs. Special needs children are often relegated to public schools. It saddens me that my son didn’t have the opportunity to attend a Catholic school. That was such a blessing that my parents gave me.

I went to a Catholic middle school. It wasn't awful but I struggled to adapt a lot, I think my mom pulled me out before beginning high school because I became worryingly devoted to the Church. Looking back it made sense, I was bullied and segregated by my classmates, and I was too shy to try to befriend those that approached me. But still, my best years were in a private non religious high school.

I support Catholic schools for children and high school level students - it is a much more intelligently structured education that the students are taught. Catholic schools seem to be more protective of the students and of the campus surroundings than public schools. They turn out students who can read and write successfully without tutors. That alone, being such an advantage over public schools.

The same thing is happening in Ontario Canada - catholic school enrolments are up considerably. They are considered public schools, i.e. there is no tuition. Part of it could be due to the surge in immigration, permanent residents and international students (Canada has the highest population growth rate out of all the G7 countries causing serious societal problems) but I think there are other reasons for it.

🥰👍 Lauren May. The church should remain to be the church and the state remain to be the state.. The church does not need the state to survive and the church has always been active in many sectors that benefit the community; education, health, vocational training, youth programs etc.

This makes me so Happy

My kids went to public school and they came out great, but the difference was that I went to Catholic school and they received my expert parental guidance 😇

I'm proud my state of Utah is one of those states; let the public schools try to win students back.

Private schools can give new workbooks to every student and teach them a healthy sense of pride for themselves and their surroundings. Isn't the government grand at managing things? 😂

the out of state migrants get to enjoy those things while actual Florida residents live in squalor

Private schools will have a code of Conduct that must be agreed to and signed before admittance. Then they have a system in place on how to deal with behavior issues that deviate from the code. It's not a surprise unless you don't read a contract that you've signed. Religious beliefs are always outlined ahead of time. So no surprises.

Can you imagine if there were enough private schools. Full. Of we defunded public schools gave parents that money it would be over for these sorry public schools

That’s exactly what the voucher programs are. You get a certain amount of money that at least partially covers the cost of tuition.
