I have the kit (sadly I'm needing to repair the wingtips - curled over like an airliner's winglets in shipping.) Reminds me of the Hobbyboss YF-23 - huge kit, but not a lot to it.

Thank you Jen for such a nice detailed build process, solved a couple of manual misunderstanding. Building this kit now. Surely I'd like to see this kit made by GWH but.... (those flat gear bays....but my first expirience of using quinta decails was pretty good, flat panels made it more easy). Hope you'll review and build upcoming SU-25 (rivets, please, please!!!!) which will be the last missing kit from my Sukhoi set. All existing in 48 scale kinda Lego kits. All the best and thank you again!

Those "big missiles" are Kh-31PD ARMs (anti-radiation missiles) :) The "little ones" are R-73RMD-2 IR SRAAMs (short range air to air missiles). But they are not used on Su-57 - just older planes like T-10 (Su-27 and its children) family or MiG-29. Su-57 uses R-74M-2 (mostly look as R-73, but has different distantial fuses layout, completely different seeker - 3 band and 3-petal gas dynamic stears instead of 4 on R-73). But the most interesting is the main SRAAM for FSBs use - K-300 (still secret, no images of it available except for Tor-M2 SAMs on which it's based on): paralay.iboards.ru/download/file.php?style=12&id=22240&t=1

Is it really necessary to use super glue for the fuselage halves or can you get the same results with ultra thin or even tube glue? Haven't started mine yet just trying to some ideas

Not necessary, just better. It is perfectly possible to get great results with plastic cement of any type, but the risk of ghost seams is ever present. That's why I use super glue.

You probably don't intend to keep this model for a long time, but looking at this nose weight triggered a concern of lead rot. Are you aware of this? In contact with acetic acid (which can come from a number of sources) lead can undergo a catalytic reaction that converts it to a white powder that has quite a bit more volume than the original massive form, splitting the fuselage in the process. This is all the worse if the lead is in relative granular form, giving a lot of exposed surfaces. Countermeasure: Use lead in block form, cast it, if necessary, and coat it with a protective lacquer, e.g. epoxy. I have heard people naming PVA glue as part of the chemical process; it wont provide much in terms of protection at any rate.

A very valid point, and certainly worth considering. None of my weights are actually lead though, it's some kind of similar looking substitute heavy stuff....

If you want more or less accurate copy of the real Su-57, you need to remove almost all the panel lines: the real thing is almost completely covered with RPMs and dielectric paints. Also correct the shape of a "sting" - a tail boom between engines (is has the right shape but 3 ribs on each side instead of 2) and heavily modify inside structure of the air intakes (it was secret till the very recent time, Zvezda has released it too early : ) ). HUD is also wrong (Zvezda gives IKSh-1 for Su-35S and late Su-30SM instead of KAI-50, donno why, it is not secret).
