When I used to go to the theaters, I always sat in front of a little kid that kicked my seat, while to my left I had two giggly teenage girls on their phones, to my right was a 300-lb. guy eating from three different snack bags and hooting frequently, and in front of me was an elderly couple who loudly discussed everything that was happening on screen. I bailed out of that shit years ago, and I've never gone back.

This exact thing happened to me with Dr. Strange 2 last week. On my left was a guy that clapped when the Marvel logo came up and wooed at the fan service . On my right, a guy munched on nachos in my ear and started snoring halfway through. Let theaters die.

Try working at a movie theatre. You're opinion of humanity will alter radically. After 15 years I ceased viewing the majority of customers as even human but some species that I cannot even describe as animals because that would be an insult to animals. Just thing of a cross between the scenes in Gremlins and The Muppet Movie.

The last movie I saw in theaters, like Mike and Jay, was TROS. I saw it at a theater I had not been to for a year at that point. They updated it to where they sold Funko Pops, shirts, blankets, keychains, wallets, Starbucks coffee and they even had a self-serving ice cream machine. The lobby music was so loud you could hear it inside of the auditorium over the movie. People all around me fucking with candy wrappers for 20 minutes, devouring popcorn like they were on death row, spilling cheese sauce in the floor, sneezing, coughing, wheezing and talking during the entire screening. Infants -- not toddlers -- infants, crying their poor eyes out because of the noise as their parents disregarded their pleas for help. It was agonizing. But in December 2020, I have the option to rent out an entire auditorium to myself and whoever I invite, to pick from over 100 films, new and old, for the low-low price of $50. Which is what I would've spent this time last year for 1 ticket and a popcorn with a drink. I am in utter heaven. I don't wanna see theaters die, but they do need to drastically change. No one goes to the movies expecting it to be a Gamestop or Hot Topic. We just wanna watch a damn film.

There was also a bit in the (I think) Robocop remake commentary where Jay noted that they could probably make just as much money rereleasing the original in theatres. Jay then suggested that rereleasing old movies would make money. About five years later national chains started rereleasing old movies on a couple of their screens, and now in 2020 some theaters are showing nothing else.

Last year I went to the drive-in several times and it was all older re-released movies, mostly 80s Spielberg films but also Star Wars. I am fine with that since most of those movies are better than most of what we get today anyway. I saw Jurassic Park and Jaws the same night. Yeah, I've seen them a million times, but that's because they're GOOD. The last time I went to an actual movie theater I had a similar experience to Mike ... there was vomit all over the hallway outside our theater and to cap it off, someone has a massive seizure at the climax of the film and paramedics had to rush in. That was so fun. Probably more fun than the guy who had the seizure, but still not fun.

Two days ago I watched Halloween Kills and, not to be racist, there was a Gypsy family consisting of like 10-20 people who were sitting in the first 3-4 rows of the theatre. And me and my friend sat a few rows behind them. And they were constantly yelling and screaming random stupid comments, and talking loudly about things wich had nothing to doo with the movie. Everytime Michael Myers brutally killed someone they started all laughing hysterically for long minutes. But remained silent at the actual jokes or humorous moments. When the homosexual couple showed up on screen, they started yelling: GAYS!!!! And other homophobe slurs wich made my friend physically cringe so hard he was embarred. They also burped while eating, and one of them just started smoking INSIDE the theatre. I rarelly go to mainstream cinema’s. I actually never really. I haven’t been in one for a while. And there you go.

@@Vanced-ii3bj No, not at that size, and certainly not at 8K. You can find a good 4K 50-something-inch screen for less than half the price I paid for my Sony 4K three years ago. When you get to 80-inch screens and 8K resolution, you begin to hit some hard limits on what the human eye and brain can perceive, unless you have a large enough space to accommodate such displays. You really do need a "home theater" to make that work. Which is not a bad thing to aspire to, especially given how terrible the theater experience has become in recent years. But that's larger than what the average living room allows.

But yeah theaters are shitty when you have to actively unstick the bottom of your shoe from the floor just walking to your seat or the theater serves food and alcohol in the auditoriam during the movie. You pay 20 dollars to see a movie only to have the person next to you getting handed a plate of sizzling fajitas or a bucket of beers during the show. this is probably a band aid solution that wont solve the issue, but can we just break up disney? Like trust bust em cause they definitely behave like a monopoly. I know in the grand scheme of things their cancer is on the less important issue of culture rather than y'know tech or pharmaceuticals or food but c'mon, they have way too much power. Split em into like 10 different companies

@Nagger Kids running up and down the aisles and obnoxious neckbeard ushers would loudly announce to everyone that there's no post-credit sequence so you can all just leave now. You know, some of us are actually interested in watching the credits, kid.
