RED Komodo vs Panasonic Lumix S5II - RED Raw vs ProRes Raw - Full Frame vs Super 35

This week I put the RED Komodo up against the Panasonic Lumix S5II. Because the Panasonic is full frame I used the Samyang 35mm and on the Komodo, I used the 24mm to try and best match the field of view.
We also put RED Raw up against ProRes Raw and whilst ProRes Raw is a fantastic addition with a paid upgrade it's unfortunate that as of now Davinci Resolve doesn't support it and Premier has limited options with only an exposure slider and log profiles to select from. However, if you edit in Final Cut you get a much larger selection of options.
Both cameras are incredibly impressive. The Lumix produces beautiful, natural colours straight out of the camera, while the Komodo delivers incredible clarity.
Make sure you subscribe because, In a few weeks, I'll be releasing a video comparing the Komodo to the Sony FX6. It's sure to be a good one.

Totally, but I wonder how much of that comes down to the difference between the lenses used between the two? The lighting seems more diffused across the surface of the lens on the Lumix whereas on the RED we're getting these super defined lens flares which contributes to those really dark shadows and thus an overall higher sense of contrast. I suspect the hardware between the two isn't all that different.

Seems like you shot the Komodo with heavy ND filtering with no IR CUT. The colors on the Komodo footage look weird and its because you have a LOT of IR Pollution. Take a look at the skirt of the lady @ 8:13 (it looks reddish/brown) because of all the IR pollution, now look at the same shot with the Lumix @ 8:10, it looks black as it should.. Also the trees look yellowish, also because of the IR pollution. You need to use ND with IR CUT or a separate IR CUT filter on the Komodo. I have a Komodo and a V Raptor, both of the suffer from IR Pollution when Heavy ND is used with no IR CUT. Cheers!

It's just me or the Lumix looks more cinematic??... I think, in terms of color sciense, Lumix are like on the Arri's way: cinematic AF!!! hahaha.... The Red has more detail in the shadows in the high contrast shots (like the kitchen shot), that means little more dynamic range, but it has more noise too. Anyway, in ideal contitions, I think I prefer Lumix... for me, color science are the most important thing

Colours on the lumix look much nicer to me. I borrowed a komodo from a rental house to try out. The ND in the ef/rf mount sucked, colour shiftvall over the place. User experience with komodo was nowhere near as good as "real" red cameras. It felt really cheap. Would no doubt be better with a proper red touch screen rather than the cheapo monitor in the kit I borrowed. Was enough to convince me to buy an s5iix for a fraction of the price of the komodo. Will probably buy a 2nd one soon for b cam.
