recycled soda can earrings

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What can you do with a soda can? Well, you can return it to the store for 5 cents (in some states anyway) OR you can make some fashonable jewelery! Guess what I plan to do with the gorgeous Arizona ice tea can I have? Check out the video to see. I thought I was the only one who made stuff with pop cans and cardboard. You are my new best friend. None of my friends are interested in crafts but they love what I give them as gifts. Since I have 15 granddaughters it makes it possible to give them gifts since I live on a very tight budget..

thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich I was going to be flippant and silly here but I decided to be honest. I keep doubting you because there are a billion bloggers promising to teach us all how to make beautiful silk from a sows ear and 99.9% can't even make a pigs ear from a pigs ear. I am so frustrated by this trend, fueled by Pinterest and the need for blog post content. I have no issue with someone posting any project they made online, but don't call it a tutorial unless you can 1. be the first one to do so or 2. show me how to make a professional-ish looking version or 3. your tutorial has something extra, something no one else is doing or 4. your tutorial is just plain better than what is out there . I have wasted more hours watching tutorials for things I want to make, only to see a finished project that is a hot mess (I don't need to see glue strings and uneven edges) or even worse, I have seen fakes. The "fairly light in a jar" tutorial is an example of a fake. I love Threatbangers Man Vs. Pin so when he tried the fairy jar and failed, I went looking for a good tutorial and I was shocked at how many people are faking it. They either posted that same Photoshopped photo of the supposed magic lights, showed how to make it and never showed a finished piece (ooookaaayyy) or showed a photo taken inside their house- with the lights- on while claiming they couldn't take a good photo of it in the dark. Riiiiiggggghhhtttt because it doesn't look anything like the Photoshopped photo. Each tutorials was clearly just an exact copy of the tutorial that person watched aka nobody really knows how to make one. Maybe one of the most frustrating thing I see in tutorials is that unlike you, many bloggers and KZreadrs clearly don't understand the materials they are working with ....that in and of itself makes someone not qualified to make a tutorial. Post a video of your project? Sure. Post a blog post about what you make? Sure. But don't label it and market it as a tutorial unless you really know your stuff. And I do know you do. I get that. I know your response to my post was only partially a joke because you do know what you are doing and you do know your materials. I am just getting very jaded and I guess I keep throwing you in the pile with the impostors. And honestly I really am not sure I could have made a pretty pair from a can so I just suspected hot mess. And frankly I am NOT a frugal crafter. I love having the newest and the latest things and I rarely shop at the Dollar Store and like my Tim Holtz Ideology and all things Distress and Wink of Stella and Heidi Swapp. I try to get sales-and this year was killer with the black friday deal they had online but it isn't the ned of the world if I don't. I know I am lucky that hubby doesn't say anything. I know he would like to sometimes. Why does this matter? Because far too often I see frugal-and I have mentioned this before- or Dollar Store bloggers and their projects look like Dollar Store Frugal projects. I guess I keep expecting yours to as well. And they rarely if ever do. You are frugal but you aren't stupid. You know when to skimp and when to buy the more expensive option. So while I know this, I keep thinking I will catch you....but I don't..well expect the Wink of Stella dup, but your version was pretty impressive anyway. So carry on. Can't wait to see what is next. Oh, and i keep thinking of you freezing in the basement....do you not have a space heater even? I froze my butt off in my basement- which is finished off but chilly in the winter anyway- when my space heater stopped working last week and I was miserable. Happy Holiday if I don't comment before then. I am curious what you think of my comment or are you too busy to watch tutorials. I have been really sick for the past two years- more on than off- and in bed most days, which has contributed to more time watching videos or erasing tutorials than actual crafting.

Danee Kaplan That makes sence, thanks for the explanation. I don't watch many tutorials, I am worried I will copy someone if I do and I don't often have the time. I hate it when I think I have come up with an idea and someone else came up with it first and I do not realize until I upload it LOL! The Pinterest thing ticks me off in two ways, first of all people saying I learned this from Pinterest (no you didn't, someone came up with idea, someone pinned it and you saw it there, credit the creator, pinterest is NOT the creator!) and the Pinterest craft that does not work (Flour and water is NOT mod-podge and mountain dew and baking soda will NOT make a glow stick) and people buy supplies and try it (sometimes with a full group os scouts) and are bummed that it does not work. That is my beef with Pinterest LOL! Thanks for watching, I hope to prove you wron for years to come;)

thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Oh my gosh I feel the same way about Pinterest. I have been on there a long time, way before it became popular and it has changed a lot. First off I agree with you. Nobody learned anything from Pinterest. Pinterest is just a holding place for ideas and inspiration and the original blogger needs to be credited. I have noticed over the last few years that 1. everyone is pinning the same pins. If you hit only the most popular trends and keep repining it then Pinterest doesn't work well. I remember my neighbor wanting to make a July 4th project and asked for advice. She pulled up her Pinterest search and like 7- of the pins were for the same 2 or 3 wreaths. How is that fun or inspirational? j I try to only pin off of the blogs and various websites I frequent and only rarely pin off of Pinterest itself. When I do pin off of Pinterest it is because someone I follow pinned something and I don't follow anyone who is a new crafter but rather artists I love. The other thing I notice is that in the last 2 years the number of broken links has skyrocketed making it impossible to find the original artist or post and/or learn more about the project. I am sure some comes from blogs that were taken down but the number is too high to simply explain it as that. Happy Holidays.

th big punch is 1", the other 3/8: and the tiny one is a 1/16", I also have a 1/8" punch but I checked and it is much larger. It is a scrapbook punch so maybe their sizes differ from a jewelrs punch, maybe it looks larger ibn screen, the circles I am punching into are ony 1" and under 1/2" maybe you thought the circles I punched into were larger. Does it help?

  • @thefrugalcrafter

    9 жыл бұрын

Lindamomma0126 I don't think so unless you scanned the logo and reproduced it. You bought the soda and you are recycling the can. I see lots of bottle cap earrings selling on etsy and the art on the cap is the main feature. Small crafters should be fine but if you were mass producing these to sell at target you would have a problem BUT if you were doing that you would be purchasing a licence agreement so you could just have what you want printed on what you want. That is my understanding. I am usually looking for pattern and color so it dose not matter to me, the art on the cans is to large to show a logo on a small punch out.

+Jordan Wilkinson You can use sand paper for metal because it comes one for wood or a tool named File that is used to rremove fine amount of material from a workpiece .

Can you repeat what shears you used to cut the jump rings? I couldn’t find the brand you mentioned but maybe I misunderstood. Are they at Walmart if I heard correctly? Also what gauge wire did you use? Thanks!

Anyone do this recently and have a suggestion for what to use for a punch? I see some 5/8" punch at Michaels but wonder if anyone has a favorite punch assuming I will be experimenting( redoing) various attempts :) In general im starting my process, just got some chain nose pliers and trying to creat interesting earings, these are incredible.

Hey Lindsay, I finally found one of the dapping blocks at Craft Savers on Sale $4.20. Now I need to find the tiny hole punch that you were using. Where did you get yours at? I have not seen one that small. Just as soon as I get the dapping block and the tiny hole punch I can start making me some earings and try to sale them. I have been saving up some pretty aluminum cans just for this project.

Southern Angel Joann Fabrics but any craft store with a scrapbook section should have a 1/16 hole punch
