We still stencil our clothes in the navy. Everyone’s clothes get washed together in marked bags but god forbid you and a few others bags come loose and you have to figure out who’s is who’s.

We used a fabric pen in boot camp to stencil shirts, undies, socks, uniforms, boots, basically every thing not bolted down got a stencil.

He's predominantly a WW2 Army reenactment participant. BTW yours was one of the FEW intelligent replies. I was CG and was part of the Direct Petty Officer program. There were only 150-200 of us starting in 1990 w/Desert Shield - Storm. It was seriously difficult to get into, even moreso than OCS. Even more difficult to "graduate"... 18-20 hour days. Ah, but we could smoke

You can also use rubbing alcohol instead, but it'll take a day of soaking. Or an afternoon, if you also scrape it off with an old toothbrush.

IDK about back then but we had a stencil kit issued to us that was essentially a stamp kit. It was much better than paint and the dye never really comes off anything

There's actually a 3rd thing I believe. I believe is that the shirts were made in the USA and the stitching on the collar, sleeves, and bottom were called "single stitch." That is since the shirts now have two stitchings and the originals were only 1 stitch chains. I'm such a shirt nerd

There's a regular t-shirt. Then there's also a "GOB" Shirt... long sleeve with turtle neck, navy or black. You can get cheap copies. Actual issue, if you can find one, goes for about $50

Where as I like the video I have to agree you really should have said greetings sailors not seamen. You should have known the bulk of people's minds are in the gutter and where that comment was going to take it. Now then, the rest of the video is really informative and I like how you did it. I've always been interested in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II. And recently I've been trying to get together my own standard duty sailor uniform. I'm just having a real hard time finding a dungaree shirt that's in my size. But I really like how you showed how to do the T-shirt to go with a standard duty uniform for a sailor.
