What a handy machine that is!! Very impressive!
I appreciate all your efforts in putting these videos together, but truly enjoy your woodworking projects and your humor don’t ever loose your gift, wish you many blessings to you and your wife and family ✌🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
I have been watching your videos for years and they never cease to amaze me. I really hope to get into milling my own lumber at some point.
*- To save on infuriating aggravation, how much time would it take you to fabricate a super nice vertical-bar screen frame to protect your pickup's rear window from accidental log puncture, Matthew?* *- What a nice project for us to watch you build and sturdily affix to the pickup.*
you took a truly indispensable accessory in your work, you did well, a warm hug from Italy 💯👍❤️
Ooooh... I remember this gorgeous property!!!

Love the time lapse with the varying hair lengths
That's some pretty slick manoeuvring to get those logs moved without damaging anything. Nice work!
Matt, as a woodworker and sawmill owner, I lust after any cherry that I can get my hands on. Especially crocked logs that make fantastic figured boards. We used to throw away all the "junky" slab wood and now I keep it all. Love your videos , keep them up. Bill. Cherrywood Cottage Woodworking

good manuevering!
You make it look so easy, Matt.
Your mini-skid steer has certainly been a must have for your business. The log hook made that job from almost impossible to not that bad of a pickup.
Very nice!!!
Cherry and walnut are both beautiful wood
I had a chance 35 years ago to use an antique logging truck loader that was cable operated. I had to "throw" the bucket at the log or logs to reach them and scoop them up. That was a trip to try to master. The hydraulic loader was way more easier. Your grapple hook reminded me of that blip of my existence.
Awesome work Matt! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Great job Matt 🙂
I have seen you fight with stumps for so long, this skidsteer is the invention of the year!

It can be a pleasure to work in such a fresh green forest and of course with good machines. thanks for the nice video

Damn man you got all the cool toys I need one of those
That is nice size cherry, I would love to get some that size. Black cherry where I live in Texas rarely gets that big due to the dry summers and falls. Only have one that size on 22 acres.
Cool
wow -- the bandsaw marks on those cherry boards look pretty rough -- but hey, bandsaw is much faster than my chainsaw mill -- I love cherry to work with - cuts nice, planes beautifully, and sands great -- enjoy your lumber -- very cool , thanks for sharing
It still looks like work picking up those logs, even now that you have the right toys, and these are so "small". It was pretty amazing watching you do it earlier using determination and not much else, but I suspect you're happy to be past that. Having the right tools is nice.
Still impressed you haven't broken the back window of your truck yet. :)
"Up a hill and threw the woods" LOL!
Check or Iron Baltic may give ideas for more remote log recovery in sensitive areas
Nice days work
We just had a massive black cherry taken down. It was a three stem, but the middle stem had died and rotted quite a while ago. The tree was starting to do poorly and pretty close to some power lines so we bit the bullet. If the middle hadn't been rotted out of the base, I'd have found a way to bring it up to you. The base of the tree was 4 foot across the three stems, and 30 inches in the other dimension. Maybe 6 foot up before the three stems really separated. I was so sad that the rot ate out almost the entire middle of the base. I still ended up with 6-7 good 10 foot saw logs ranging from 24 inches in diameter to 14 inches at the smallest from the remaining two stems.
You pick up those logs with surgical precision.

Looks like some pretty good scratches on the passenger side just in front of the fender. Visible when he is unloading.
This looks like a lot more work than when a guy just chains a log to a horse who drags it lengthwise through the woods.
Matt that last log you loaded into your truck had a Heart shape. How often do you go to Sherwood Forest for some trees? Aren't you afraid that some Ewoks will come out and keep you hostage??? HAHAHA Peace and Love from Texas my friend

Put some weights on the rear of that machine. 1 or 2 hundred pounds will help stop the bouncing and you will not have so many problems with bigger logs.

Soooooooooo… does the homeowner want a share of the boards? I’m asking because he could have cut the logs up into firewood, or just left them there, they’re not getting in the way of anything. I’m interested in how that deal worked - not the numbers, but in principle.
@mcremona

He already has a full stock of firewood and wanted the logs to go to a useful purpose. Same deal as the other tree I recovered: if I can get it out of his yard, I can have it.

@HybridWoodworks
3 жыл бұрын
Could be at the request of the property owner. Makes no sense, but if you want the logs, you follow the rules.
Cherry only gets so big? Wild cherry down here can get 30+ inches(Northern IL). Matt, that cherry with the crook in it... you've got to learn to work with natural shapes and leave that in and figure out how to use that in your work. There are many places wonky lumber can be used and add significant appeal to a piece. A crooked stringer for a table base, putting wonky stuff together to make a cool table top. Chair parts that use follow the shape of the grain. Your imagination is your only limit. Are you really wearing a mask outside? Really?
Why the mask.
Whats the deal with the mask can you get it now off of trees?
