One thing I especially love is how you can see the despair in the first jumper's face but you don't know why and after finishing and rewatching the short you just can't see him with the same ignorance as you did the first time. You know what he just saw, and you're just as scared as he is.

Damn. The concept got weirder and weirder as the animation played out, and the boiling pink wave just made things even weirder.. but at the end it makes sense. Really good animation, and you only get the subtle meaning of the contestants faces and reactions upon rewatching it. Even the litle turn the first frog gives tells so much. They all have duble meanings! I wish i could add this level of atention to details in my works as well. The sound design and character deesign is also amazing. Just overall a really good film with a good message behind the story.

the most impressive part about this is how much changes on the rewatch. the blue frog gazing upward, you'd think itd be towards the crowd at first, but you could also say they were gazing at the rim of the stadium, knowing the water is about to boil over, knowing that theyre all being boiled alive. their expression and emoting also is so.. sad once you know, especially that hug between them and their coach. their coach is happy about the score, meanwhile the performer is holding up that smile to not ruin what will probably be their last normal moment together. i have no idea if any of that was intentional, but ARGHH it got me to tear up! fantastic work. the animation is also amazing, i wish i could explain that, but i dont know a lot about the technical terms, haha

This one spoke to me. Don't know if it was the intent, but it very well encapsulates how it feels to be a teen or a 20-something in 2023. Feeling like everyone is still expecting you to perform socially, and professionnally, even though the world around us appears to be reaching the boiling point. Good stuff!

Watching it a second time, I was overcome with emotion. The high of looking out at the cosmos and seeing endless possibilities and wonder stretching into forever. That joy of knowing that I'm alive and life is beautiful. And the whiplash that comes from looking down. That familiar, dreadful sense of futility. The shock of that perspective has driven us all a little insane. I felt an echo of it, looking at that boiling sea. Seeing the little frogs in the stadium enjoying their distractions. It's a powerful and layered metaphor for existential dread, and you really delivered on conveying how disorienting and lonely that feels. Your use of facial expressions to convey the story beneath the story was masterful. And with the old story about frogs and slowly boiling water, it's no wonder you chose them for this framework.
You absolutely NAILED the haunting feel of this. I love the sound design, and the expressions of the frogs are very well done. Congrats!
Literally when the frog was coming down to earth, I wasn’t sure what to do if I were in their position. Would I tell everyone or ignore it since they’d probably laugh in my face. The sound effects are amazing as well, so happy I clicked on this 😭❤️

This is incredibly well-done. I went back and watched it three times. The contrast between the transcendent view of space and the horror down on earth is particularly impactful -- the way the sound shifts in that moment, phenomenal. I also liked the little bits of frog worldbuilding, like athletes puffing out their throats and spectators dipping bug legs in cheese sauce. Really fun! Thanks so much! The more I make films the more I realize dialogue aught to be the last thing I work on. I want to make as much of the story as I can with no speaking and only THEN add speech, only if it's needed. Otherwise, dialogue can really hamstring the action
I love things that are an eclectic strange mix but nonetheless resonate well enough to generate an unique vibe. This had a vibe & a message, I enjoyed it!
Oh it's the 'frog in the well' allegory, nice touch
The fact that the even if the earth is boiling and the frogs who all would have an ability to escape with even 1/100 of the athletes ability choose not to is deeply profound. They choose to congregate and watch what are quite literally brief, passing moments of thrill instead of do anything that might change their situation. Very dystopian, I love it.
All of the competitors seen what is approaching but decided to stay silent and let the last moments be filled with cheers.
"If you boil a pot of water slowly enough, the frog won't jump out."
Amazing stuff, I especially love the row of previous contestants just sitting there in horror about what they all saw and yet aren't speaking to one another about it.
so unbelievably cool..movement is incredible
Horrifyingly beautiful I love the way it looked when he was in space it made me feel uncomfortable and at awe at the same time
My theory about this short is that the audience will never know the progress but only the result. Your mind is broken by all the things you had to come through but the people will just judge by the very last moment of what you’ve came through, such as making thesis film to successfully graduate the school. You have to dedicate yourself whole and often it is not enough. The space is ideal, and the earth is reality.
Thank you. I will now rewatch it everytime I feel lost in life and worried about my work or petty problems. I kinda though the second frog will jump again, to glance once again at the cosmos before boiling on earth - I think I expected a change in behaviour steeping from knowledge of the disaster. But your storyline is much more convincing and real, and probably this is why it hits so hard, the inevitability of the fate, as usually no desicion in the hasty world is made without premeditation and active will to be different - we are being programmed to not stand out and risk things, even if it might actually benefit us. It was a pleasure to watch and be reminded of the importance of life itself. Thanks ❤
God. The camera lenses flashing like pink bubbles… boiling slowly indeed.

oh no theyre all gonna die, i like the tiny details in things like how the city lights that were about to be consumed by the pink boiling thing went dark like the stadium at the end the ambient sounds (or background music?) for the things like when the frog guys out in space and all the more horrifying bits of "were gonna die" are really nice i like them, i especially like how a lot of the time when ur on the ground its silent and its always tense, which could be explained away by this being an event, but its like *unusually* silent the frog screaming when they noticed the first jumper coming down and the audience being unfazed was also weird but could again, be explained by being desensitized after seeing all the other contestants jumping really high, but no they all probably just accepted their deaths and all the double meanings on future rewatches like man thats cool!! like another comment said, theres also little bits of worldbuilding that i thought were cool too, witht he view coming back from space showing a bit of the very destroyed and red buildings in the distance that could serve as an explanation (but not a complete one) for the pink boiling water thing, perhaps its some very weird oil that flowed down? animation, colors and lineart are good too!! like nothing feels static because theres always subtle frame by frame going on somewhere i most likely missed a lot more stuff tho forgot to add that this entire thing gives off "nothing matters" and "dystopia that noone does anything about" vibes the character design is really nice and everyone has their own distinct pattern or color scheme or feature of some kind, even the bacjground characters!!

We are all in boiling water and not enough of us are noticing because we are focused on bread and circus!!!
You hear the boiling at the very beginning, but it's in the background and hard to think about, the scary thing is if a temperature raises slowly frogs wont even know they're being boiled alive. So the athletes are the only ones who realize. It ends up being pretty good social commentary on global warming too, because much like the frogs many people still don't know how bad it's getting.

Amazing animation and story. I real felt this one
A meme image from a frog doing squat only, dreaming of flying up to the sky and becoming a star?
I absolutely loved the expressions on this, it really exceeded my expectations considering they’re just frogs. Thought it was interesting that even the frog who performed well was under stress. I took it as a peak in life is just that: a point from which you must fall down. Or crash, more accurately. You’re expected to perform, to keep doing as well, and that expectation can be really overwhelming. The crowd with all its noises, grossness (w/ flies, food, blank expressions juxtaposing the athlete’s struggles, etc.), and how they all just stood and watched encapsulated that. On the inside, the world feels like it’s caving in despite calm appearances. That’s true of the person who failed, and I assume even the one who didn’t. Because they’re still comparing themself to others who may be better, and the next time they perform they are expected to do just as well the next time.
NOOOOO NOT THE FROGGIES
Wow incredible work! Sound design and visuals really make this whole thing come together. The first watch i was wondering why the pervious jumpers seemed to react in a strange way to not getting a perfect score.
Pov: that time you poured boiling water into an olympic stadium full of frog spectators and athletes as a kid.
Sometimes, I look at something and I just know that I won't be able to really figure it out entirely, because the person who created it was genius. I feel it now. You're genius, that is a truly incredible movie. I'm so interested in your thought process, in the overall interpretation. Reading the other comments, I just realised how weirdly far from the truth mine was in the first place, even tho there was a link with catastrophy. (I saw the pink touch in their eye once the athletes saw the boiling water btw :) ). I'm so intrigued, I wish I could see so much more from you and the creativity you have to offer. Let me talk a little bit ! So firstly, the sky is already pink in the beginning of the movie. There are hints !!! But nobody will get outside of the stadium. They're all so sleepy, the stadium truly is comfortable and even tho this confort is boring, only made of few distractions, they will decide on witnessing the athletes exploit. It seems like the athletes really represent something grandiose for them, as for the kid who would skip breathing to act like the athlete. We can suppose they were dreaming of becoming an athlete too (and we know this won't be possible later... Which is tragic.) Then I find it incredible how we witness the beautiful view, and then just a second later, we see pretty much death, and since then their eyes get the pink tint, like a kind of imprint "once you see it, you won't be able to ignore it anymore". And that's another thing about this all. If you stay in the stadium, you have this chance of not having seen the thing, being able to have hopes, to dream big, and also to just rest calmly, waiting for the next big good event knowing it will come later. And that's incredible because, just looking higher, would occur in a "huh, the sky ain't supposed to be pink, lemme check" and destroy all of this. Anyway, so the character's falling, knowing at some point they will ultimatly die as for the whole stadium that they know ain't aware, and yet, we get a scene of characters eating, AND THAT SCENE BLOWS MY MIND !!! This is so LONG !!! We get to spend nearly 20 seconds with them, super insignificant, while we know their world is going to collapse in some seconds, and that we know it now, we cannot ignore it anymore, but you decided to put that scene at this moment, even tho, at this point, we just wanted to know what the athlete was experiencing. We're feeling bad at this point, we cannot enjoy the fun family moment with them. And I find it so genius, that's such a bold move to put such a scene of 20 seconds at this moment. (I tried to express it correctly, but I'm not sure that I'm making sense). Also, about the athletes, when they sit, it's just so horrible, because we feel loneliness. Even tho they share this experience of having seen it, even then, they do not look at any other. They're just deep in sorrow, alone. And also, I love how everything after being given the information that everything will be boiled over, everything feels excessevly meaningless. How can I care that they got a super bad rating now that I know that everything will just disappear. That's so well done, it really feels like it and the depiction is perfect in such a short amount of time. It reminded me of how much polluting the Olympian Games are, yet for the excitment, as long as we remain in the stadium, we won't care that the outside is already boiling, as we also saw that kilometers of buildings were already boiled and done. Finally, I appreciate also how in the first place, I though the main character was the blue one, and was thinking that they were anxious the not-even-an-entire-point they had aside from 10 would lead them to not win. Then we spend much more time with the green one which I thought would be the opponent. I was hoping for the blue one to win in the end. And that's incredible again because we see our thoughts moving as the movie goes. In the end, you get to be like "how insignificant were my initial thoughts". But also, there was overall no main character, just people, and the main character felt to me like it was this big despair, we all might experience. It's all around us and we're all in this together versus it. Anyway. INCREDIBLE MOVIE !!!!

wow this reply blew me away, I'm so glad you were able to soak so much of it in and experience this story with the characters in such a meaning-rich way. There's so much I could say here but I'll save it for later and leave you with this: As I was making it, I remember talking with people who were confused about the bug leg eating scene, it seemed kind of pace-breaking and redundant. I wanted to leave it in because (among other reasons) without that moment they're just cute background characters, and I needed people to be thinking of both them and the athletes when you see the final shot. It also saved me a lot of time on animating the green frog entering the atmosphere ngl.

It didn't came to me that it was to remind us of them tho. That's interesting, and indeed, I'm not even sure I would still be thinking about them at this point. It was a great idea, and it really added so much to the whole movie in my opinion. I understand how we might as well think it was a pace-breaking, but that's pretty much what I loved the most about this scene, as if, as the movie maker, you wanted to mess with us a bit, showing a thing that insignificant when we can't care anymore.
