Reclaim.ai Review: Smart calendar blocking for the productive engineer
Ғылым және технология
Reclaim (not sponsored) is an app that makes calendar blocking ACTUALLY feasible. Here's why it works for me where other tools have failed, and how it's particularly suited for increasing the productivity of software engineers. RECLAIM LINK: reclaim.ai/r/s/yYOqK

The fact that calendar systems are across the board so awful, is something that blows my mind everything time I think about it. Like you, like EVERYONE, sometimes thing run over, or there's an unexpected delay. Why a calendar system like Google would make you sit there and manually shift everything around is INSANE. There should be a feature to push everything back if a block runs over. Why should i have to manually shift 7 time blocks down, one by one. It's mental.

I agree! I think the calendar space could use some competition. It's pretty much just Google or Outlook, and everything else is so indie and lacking in features. Even Google and Outlook aren't enough. I'm really loving that Reclaim is adding a layer of slickness to my existing calendar(s) to compensate.
I like how you clarified the distinction between habits, tasks, and meetings! That's a really helpful way to look at it. Oh I really wish we had buffer and decompress time at work, that's a great idea.
@nicolevdh

Thanks! Yeah, I think the distinction is really important because you need to know what's fixed and what could be moved. I love that Reclaim does that! :)
Really great summary - you covered everything I wanted to know about Reclaim. I also love your other content on Obsidian. Keep up the good work!

Yay! Reclaim is fantastic, and so is the team. Happy to give them a bit of a spotlight. Thanks for the encouragement!
Just discovered Reclaim and I love it! It feels like it's part of Google Calendar. It really shows how much time I DON'T have and helped me schedule projects accurately.
Thank you so much for this very comprehensive summary and review. Very helpful!

Thank you for this concise and useful video. I'm going to give the free version a try and determine whether it will be a good fit for me and my team. As an engineer with increasing responsibilities, I'm in dire need of a system that will help me make sense of all the competing priorities these days!

@@nicolevdh How does reclaim integrate with obsidian? Also have you tried SkedPal beta 3.0? Very similar - costs and benefits to both. Would be interested to hear your take.
@nicolevdh

@@alexoldroyd770 It doesn't! I like to have my calendar separate from my notes, so Reclaim integrates with my Google Calendar and I use them both separately from how I use Obsidian. I have not tried SkedPal, sorry!

Amazing video. Im trying to find a Motion alternative and this might just be it. Can I ask how many Asana accounts it could work with? Like you, I have one for my normal work and another for my side jobs. Thanks!
Great video! I feel like habits are things you'd like to do daily vs tasks being deadline driven. In my time blocking setup I had multiple things I wanted to do every day like "paperwork" or "email/messages", but once I add lunch and workouts the free plan is a bust. Or do you think that all those time-blocking things should be 'tasks' instead?
@nicolevdh
Жыл бұрын
Hi Bradley! I see that the free plan only has 3 habits included. One thing you could do is to schedule those recurring habits on Google Calendar. Scheduling them that way means Reclaim won't be able to move them around, but at least you can set them to recur every day. Personally, I opted to pay for Reclaim - the time it saves me was worth the price! Definitely a personal decision, though.
Will definitely have to check this out once they integrate with Asana.
@nicolevdh
2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough! I don't use Asana but I can understand why that would be important for you!
Have you tried motion? You should do a comparison video - they seem very similar.
Came back to say that I am now a Reclaim believer. 🤣🤣
Thanks

Hey, thank YOU. :) So nice of you! Appreciate the support.
Thanks for this video/recomendation we are struggle with our calendar meetings and our todos, I'm also learning to use Obsidian to help me hanlde better my notes and have found very useful your channel and all videos. BTW, is there a way to integrate this calendar/tasks from Reclaim to link with notes from Obsidian, that would be awesome.
@nicolevdh
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry, no, there is no integration between Obsidian and Reclaim. I use Google Calendar for my calendar, so I don't use Obsidian at all for tasks that have a date or time that they should be done.
reclaim is great... and the pricing for individuals is fair, for teams it starts getting a little expensive I think
@nicolevdh
2 жыл бұрын
Well, if that's what it takes to keep the individual plan free forever, I totally get it! :)
Dope app review! Is it possible you could compare this to Morgen’s free tier? Btw I’m loving your channel!
@nicolevdh
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry, I have not used Morgen, but it doesn't look like it does the same thing as Reclaim at all. The main value of Reclaim for me is its ability to schedule tasks intelligently to fit the time I have available. Morgen looks like just another calendar app-- you still have to schedule your tasks on it and move them around when you need more time.
@TheAmazinRaven
2 жыл бұрын
@@nicolevdh if I'm not mistaken, when I viewed Bryan Jenk's video, he utilized a feature that allowed him to copy & paste his availability into a plain text file. (Which allows one to efficiently schedule meetings and tasks). I'm not sure if I'm describing this correctly as I could be misremembering the functionality but Reclaim seemed similar to me on that front. I will admit that I am LOVING the habits and tasks features in Reclaim much better. I apologize for making the suggestion. I appear to have misunderstood the similarities between the apps. 😅
Can I use reclaim for Outlook calender?
I prefer iCal and already have a other life/work things integrated there. Does this work with iCal or just Google Calendar?

@@nicolevdh No problem :) Really enjoyed your content. I hear you, people can go overboard with intros and logos and whatnot, but a quick bit of text that says "Productivity, etc etc" I can't imagine will be a problem for people.
