Dope video, we’re from the same area! I was watching this because I plan to get a gheenoe and fix it up for shallow flats fishing as my boats too big so this was helpful 🙌🏽

Overlapping is key. The bottom of that plywood you put on the transom should have been overlapped with the cloth. Nice job for your first time man.

Nice job. I am looking to restore my 13’ lowsider in a few weeks. Thanks for the video. I have to do the same items as you and I am going to layer my floor a few sheets. Thicken it up. Early 80s model gheenoe

How has your front bench held up so far! I did my front bench fiberglass the whole length of the bench with 3 layers and added a pedestal plate, but I took the paint off before applying.

Did you glass over the gelcoat?

What rod holders are you using to mount?

How did you shape the wood to the inside of the transom? Did you make a stencil of some kind? If so how did you do that? I am thinking just putting some kraft paper in there and using a sharpy but not sure if thats the best way.

Sorry for the late response man! But yes! Quite literally took drafting paper and just pushed it flush in to the transom and used a pencil to trace the shape. It wasn’t perfect when I traced it on the plywood but I just shaved/sawed off whatever extra I needed to!

Did you happen to save the transom board cut out template?

I’m about to redo my benches on my gheenoe and I have to cut the bench so I can dig out the bad foam. I think I’m going to make a panel on a flat surface and then lay it on the bench and glass it to the top. What material should I make the panel on that the resin won’t stick as it dries?

With your jackplate at max height. How much higher does the engine sit above the transom? Versus if it was sitting on the transom and how much paint did you use for the interior?

Hey man! Rule of thumb for motor height with a jackplate is your cavitation plate on your lower unit should be the same height as the bottom of your hull, basically where your drain plug is. You may want to adjust give or take an inch or two but that’s the rule of thumb!

This might be a stupid question but I just rebuilt my transom, looking to paint now, basically exactly how you did. What type of brush did you use and how many coats, and how did you prep the surface? Thanks man

  • @reeldill2882

Hey man! I basically just sanded and hit it with acetone, then started painting with Topside and a roller. Maybe 3-4 coats. Was super easy man.
