If you have the money and access to professionals, and DIY renovation is not your focus anyway, this is the absolutely best way to go! It'll go fast too... we hope. I like your house plan 👌

Very nice job summarizing 4 weeks of prep and the first week of reconstruction. It seems you have a very good crew working on your project. No one moves like jackrabbits (I'm 71) but they work very steady and they all know what they are doing (except for the young fellow - first day on the job) If the young man pays attention, inside of 2 years he'll be well trained. Great opportunity for him. One thing I see missing on your drawings is gutters. Thought I'd point that out now in the event there are decisions that will be made along the way that will make gutters problematic. You'll want to keep your stone walls free of moisture and I imagine you have a use for the rainwater that large roof will shed 😉👍 Have another wonderfully productive and rewarding week!

@@NearbyVeggies I imagined you were way ahead of me - but I thought I'd point it out "just in case." I've been in the situation where I've had to ask a contractor, "but what about _______"? Only to hear "if it's not in the drawings - it doesn't exist". 👍

The last time I walked past the Property on the way to the little Town down the road , I did try to walk around the gate to the back of the property , but there were too many silvas and I was afraid of hiding snakes. Yes the sounds of men working and talking reminds me of construction in Canada as the Portuguese built many projects in Canada with their skills with concrete and structure. Those footings will be around for many years if not lifetimes.

I never really got an idea of the enormity of this project until now. It is going to be a big house and indeed was a large house. You are now building a fortress!! It will last forever. I think you will need to reincarnate a couple of lifetimes to fully enjoy all the work you are doing. Watching with great interest. I love the stone European stone houses.

I am sure that brand new shirt find will come up lovely when its had a wash lol! I washed it but it’s pure nylon and almost see-through. It wouldn’t quite close on me and had a big faded square on the front. On a better note, as you say, the crew are wonderful 👍

Very interesting to see the way things are done with this type of construction. The way they take the stones apart for the stairs makes me think what was holding them together was more the weight then the mud that was keeping them in place. Did Dan get the fire going in the end? I really like the drawing of the end result, The veranda that will be there looks lovely, I am sure you two will spend many happy hours there in the future.

Are you going to try to save and reuse the shirt? Maybe it will fit together with the coat! And I loved seeing the drawings of the future compared with the state of the present!

It wasn't a priest's house. It was a farmhouse with a little chapel.

They moved them end over end. They are strong 💪

A quick view where they used the jackhammer and revealed stone. That's beautiful stuff, dark blue with streaks. Granite? I've not seen any that colouring. I'm in an earthquake zone too, it's great they've updated building codes and requirements, especially for buildings this old. Are the rebar cages going up being covered in stone or something else? Imagining that house all done by hand makes me tired just watching the guys working, even with machines. Stone castles were all done by hand tools and sheer manpower. Yikes.
