Rebuilding A Wrecked Jet Boat!!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Well here it is!!! Another unexpected build! This 2005 Yamaha sx230 jet boat has seen some better days. We picked this sucker up from the auction for a pretty smoking deal. Just like most of our builds, this thing was completely totaled out and the insurance company thought it was beyond repair! This was the perfect opportunity for us to get a summer fun water machine, so here it is!!! Thanks For Watching!!!

#1 If one engine fails on the water don't operate the 2nd engine over 5 mph, otherwise you will fill the failed engine with water. #2 Invest in Lateral Thrusters and Thrust Vectors. #3 Install the EZ-Locks manhole cover blowout prevention kit. On the older Yamaha boats the cleanout plug (Manhole Covers) would blowout when they weren't properly maintained, thus sinking the boat.

When yall are working under the boat being lifted by Big Bertha, make sure you put some safety supports under it just in case a hydraulic line breaks and/or the boat decides to come racing to the ground. As a former elevator mechanic, we always made sure the elevator cabs were blocked before we started working under them.

It is a shame to put the work into something and then let it go down hill. Should have been covered and put up for sale or give it away if you did not want to finish or repair it. Someone would have been glad to get it before it gets too schetchy. Help out someone less fortunate.

Awesome man!!! Grew up with a 2004 sx230 dudes, the exact same blue color! You guys *HAVE* to check into buying these things called "Cobra Fins" I'm not sure if they still make them, but they're custom made, almost rutter style steel, but they clip under each of the jets coming out the back. It really REALLY helps while under no wake zones or slow water operation. I remember my mom couldn't drive the boat in the marina until we installed them LOL we would just spin spin spin in circles. Another quick mention if you happen to see this; almost lost my life because of it around age 16, when you suck some grass/material up into the impellers, obviously you'' pull the plugs and clean it out. *ALWAYS* give those things a little good pull before get going again and ensure they're re-installed properly. We operated on the Mississippi and sucked up some weeds; we cleaned out the plugs while on the river so it wasn't the quickest clean up and mom/dad didn't give it a pull check. Going about 45 with both engine maxed out and the left plug blew; about a 6-9 foot geyser flew up and luckily the engine killed due to the safety features, but we flew off to the right of the river with no power, filling full of water. Issue was we were RIGHT next to a big barge pushing a full load up the river, needless to say we came within 10-15 foot of that barge, thought we were gonna be sucked under the water for sure until a pontoon rolled up and threw us a rope. Ended up going back home on one engine, but glad we made it! edit: just google "cobrajetsteering" and you'll find em! looks for 400 bucks for the kit. Looking forward to the nostalgia that will come from this build. Also 8:50 - you put one forward, one back at full speed, you'll rip a WICKED 360. if you're going full power and throw both into full reverse, the bow will go under the water and flood the front/ladies, so epic.

That hull is double walled so you wont be able to see any damage from looking in the ski locker! The cleanout plugs you need to twist and then pull up, when you get them out, lube them up with silicone bc they like to stick. Always start the engine first, then the garden house and shut the water off and then the engine!

I was a fiberglass repair man at a marine shop for 18 years. You can absolutely fix that from the bottom. Grind out any damage. Taper your grind wide and layer it up. Alternate with a roving after 2 or 3 matt. Ideally, if you can get at the inside id back up the repair with some layers as well. Grind off your repair, body work it, spray gel, wet sand up to a higher grit and polish it out.

I know why. Either they didn’t have one (which I doubt), or the main reason is because when u cover it, the cat jumps in the middle of it and causes like a crater in the middle. And when it rains, the water stays in the middle and makes it even worse and causes mold. I saw the same thing with another youtuber.

Going to enjoy this quick build. Also your clean out plugs might be stuck so you might want to spray some silicone lub down there to loosen them up. Great suggestions from others....just a couple to add. Replace both fuel pumps at the same time you clean the tanks out. Put in two batteries and a selector switch in. If you run one down jammin' in the bay then you can still start. The batteries can both charge even when disconnected but you need an isolator. Don't ask why I recommend this. (new fuel pumps are to ensure equal performance and to avoid lean situations) If not already equipped, I also recommend a water separating fuel filter (dual of course). I ran a 18' jet outboard for years and that fuel filter was a cure for a reoccurring problem. Good luck and Bounce Out Another Thousand safely ....yup

Power on to steer, reverse to slow, gently. Also, Impellors are dependant on water for lubrication. Start out of water and spin a bearing in no time.Good luck!
