    1. The gas tank is located in the center of the boat. 2. The leaning is most likely due to prop torque which is common on single engine I/o boats. 3. Max operating range on a Mercruiser 5.0 is 4400-4800rpm. You need to check your tach and tach signal. 4. Avoid changing props until you get a working tach 5. Mercury props are the best. Enertia, or rev4 would probably work well. I’m guessing a 19 pitch. 6. You need to pull the drive and check motor alignment. You also need to replace your zincs as they look pretty wasted and your drive is corroded. 7. The missing and rough running is probably due to needing the basic tune up stuff like plugs, cap, rotor. That’s an early 2000s 5.0 with a 2 barrel mercarb. It should have a spin on fuel filter at the front of the engine which needs to be changed. 8. You need an advance timing light to set the timing. 9. That squeaky belt is likely a bad bearing in the tensioner pulley. 10. Check to make sure the exhaust flaps are intact.

Infront of the drive just above the skeg is a small hole that collects the water for the speedo...if its block with dirt the speedo wont work. Take a small drill bit (not with a drill) and use it to carefully unplug the dirt - Cheers from Canada

Checklist of things that should be done: 1. Fuel tank cleaning 2. Full 300 hour service including belts and new bilge pump with new float switch and clean up wiring in bilge 3. Repair fiberglass 4. Awlgrip paint to match one of your cars (lambo?) 5. Stereo 6. Remove carpet and add seadek 7. Tint windows

Replace Bellows and impeller and never run it dry again. Acquire all required coast guard equipment. If you want to wakeboard behind it look for a stainless steel 4 blade prop 2-4 inches of pitch below the max that thing will turn probably 17 or 19 inches of pitch. Also hit up ebay for a cheap GPS speedometer. Could grab all new gauges from ebay and or Amazon to your liking they are essentially universal on these older boats.

I rebuilt a 1986 Chris Craft 186 Scorpion.Turned out beautiful so I understand your excitement with your new boat. Couple of things though. I would recommend getting a SELOC Mercruiser stern drives repair manual in the year of your boat. That will be your bible. The most important things I would recommend doing before another test run is rebuild the main intake water pump because that is the radiator so to speak. If you loose that, you loose your cooling. Changing your accessory belts and any cooling hoses that look 'sketchy' or cracked. That may be where your leak was coming from and changing the gear oil in the outdrive. Do the regular maintenance on her and she'll treat you to some real fine memories. Thanks for sharing. I very much enjoyed your enthusiasm.

Exactly my thought! I saw it pegged at 6k and didn't think that could be correct......... not good if it was correct... If it IS correctly, could be wrong size prop or the prop got damaged and is spinning on the shaft slightly causing the motor to rev that high.

Actually, I use the big motor to get my bass boat on the trailer and I've had no problems at all... honestly its about working smarter not harder. As long as you know what you're doing and you're gentle on the gas nothing bad should happen. I don't really understand the comment where he states it "digs out the bottom of the boat ramp" because most boat ramps have poured concrete almost 20-30ft out in the water so a trailer doesn't drop off and sink itself into the mud which makes it a lot harder to pull the trailer out after putting your boat in the water. The only thing I would have done differently is I would go upstream in a boat I'm unsure of just in case it has problems all you have to do is let the current work to your advantage and let the boat float downstream to the boat ramp.

In paint, and glass work alone they will have over 1k cause awgrip is pricey shit. The trailer they are gonna have over 1k unless they can realign everything. Prob another $500 in all the other crap to get it close, and youll still have the fact that the interior is not great, and its probably got some rot. Then the price of the tower and everything else they wanna do, itll be well over the cost of a boat if they had just gone to a broker or clist. Right now at any of those auctions there are bigger and better deals. This AM there is a Malibu, and a mako going up only 3 years old not 18 like this.

Look into a 4 blade aluminum prop............ hole shot will improve, and overall responsiveness will be great........ I've done that to my 2 boats and it's a huge change! Just be careful with the pitch and diameter.......... if you go with the wrong size you could rev the engine too high at wide open throttle. Stay away from Stainless........... if you hit something, you can tear apart the outdrive........... with aluminum, if you hit something you have a much better chance of just needing to replace the prop (a lot cheaper!).
