Same here. 2002 Neon and everyone's telling me that it's crap. I have noisy lifters, the car vibrates a lot at idle, lacks power and gives me crappy mileage, but as you I've worked so much in it and know every bit of the car. I love it and might keep it until it dies... 103,000 miles on it and it won't stop.

its all about passion man....Anyone could just buy a new car to avoid any problems. But when hard work goes into something like this, and its your hard work, its a different feeling. Everyone tells me to sell my 02 neon, etc....but i worked on it so much, and know every bit of that car, its hard to let go for a small fortune because in my eyes the car is worth much more than in someone elses eyes because of all the time i put in the car. its been 2 years... no problems. 170,000 miles. runs new.

Well done... I love the body and feel of the 90's models, I had a 95 and an 02 and did this to both. I can say the 95 with the dohc swap and acr transmission was fun to drive. I also manged to do coil over plugs after a while on it. These cars will run forever, get great gas mileage and they're extremely easy to work on. Nice job on the rebuild.

Well Done, enjoyed the music too. Mine is 18 years old, over 100.000 miles. Other than replacing brakes and brake lines, valve cover seal. no other issues. No car payments. Ready for timing belt replacement.

I have a plymouth neon with 170,000 thousand miles . I need to change the timing belt . When my transmision act up when it shifting i put a can of sea foam transmison additive and cleared the problem! This is a good motor , keep both oil change and it will last a long time !

Beautiful engine. Careful installing crankshaft timing gear and balancer pulley. Never ever use hammer of any kind on those for installation. Use the special install tools as shown in the manual to push them on without damaging the thrust bearing. Oh, and when inserting the piston and rod assembly use the protectors on the bolts to avoid scratching the crankshaft. Like the music.

I agree, buying a new car is easy to fix problems...I own a 2012 scion tc, yes its fairly new but I ripped apart the engine and pieced it back together at least 4 time now...I modified it a little about to go boost so I agree with what you saying...mad respect for rebuilding a car man...hate people who talk shit about other rides when they own the newest model of anything.

I also have a Chrysler neon 1999, and I'm thinking to do same job but it's a little hard to find one good stories for replacement parts. Who know some trusted store in UE , or Germany... ? Btw mine it's eating a 1 litre oil at 1000 km and I have to replace catalytic also. But I wil not change this car , 2.0 engine and on Autobahn she's eating 5,5 litres ( with automatic transmission) , and we talk about 20 years old car ! WOW

I'm actually looking for a 96 aqua/jade green or black Neon sedan, and this motivates me big time. This emerald green Neon looks very sharp. What year is it?

A little trick for getting the rockers on without binding is to put the engine a couple cam gear teeth before top dead center and the cam is mostly flat in a stabil position with minimum cam lobe pressure. Then tighten the shafts down in increments so that in no point in time does the rocker shaft bend at an extreme angle, I usually go over the rocker bolts 3x and on the 3rd time I torque them, any other way is almost a certain head strip.

Waste of effort? Your comment makes no sense. Besides he really is being cost effective by doing this. If you can keep any older car going, why not. A cleaner, rebuilt car runs better. This project is worth it to him. What I don't understand are these fast n' furious kids who do this kind of work to any car just to trash it by beating the crap out of the engine anf transmission.

Just because it made in Illinois or Mexico doesn't mean it's not an American car (Dodge is an American company). I doubt it, but then again my car is stock inside and out until I can get more funds to build up the engine and turbocharge it, then good luck at all.
